I'd imagine the Swiss pilots have great fun flying the very versatile F-18 around the changing & challenging topography of the Swiss Alps. As well as appreciating it's great electronics that assist them in keeping from colliding with those vertical, rock walls

I'll never forget the early morning when I was going to work within the base. As I made my way on the road just inside the base's
perimeter fence, I noticed to my right that a F-18 was heading right at me as he was on the runway prior to liftoff. I stopped with him heading right at me. I think that upon noticing a 68 Camaro stopped in front of him, the pilot flew over my position at a lower elevation than usual because it sounded like the end of the world as my car shook quite severely. But it was fun & no harm occurred

There's a reason why the Air Force Thunderbirds use F-16 Falcons. Nothing is quicker or more maneuverable than the F1 car of fighter planes. It's also the only fighter capable of straight up, vertical flight
But I think that F-15 E's also out-dogfight the F-14

Normally the maximum G-Force of the plane structure doesn't matter because our F/A-18s are equipped with the (adapted) FCS software of the Super Hornet and the G-Limiter is adjusted to 6.7 G with an external fuel tank (Like all F/A-18s). If you override the G-Limiter with the paddle-switch (Big switch on the stick) the FCS-Computer doesn't limit the G-force anymore and you can pull more than 6.7 G.

No. There are only two of our F/A-18 which were built in the U.S.A, the F/A-18C J-5001 and the F/A-18D J-5227 which crased in 1998. All the other ones were just pre-assembled in the U.S.A. and finished in Switzerland by RUAG. We built some of the fundamental structure parts stronger, also the stability of a few other important parts was increased. All that increases the durability and the stability of the Plane.
They are tested to 9 g while the U.S. ones are permitted to 7.5 g. But as I said, normally that doesent matter because the flight control system is limiting the g-force electronically.
The Swiss-Hornets are built in Switzerland. Just the first hornets are built in the usa. Our hornets are built stronger because of the extreme environment (the alps,...).
Yes you do have the Alps (one of my favorite places to fly in a simulator) but we have a few mountains here in the states too. We also have a rather extreme environment that we fly in called an aircraft carrier. That's kinda hard on an airframe too.

As I said, the F-22 is a wonderful plane. But for one F-22 you can buy 4 or 5 F-18's and still put down any real threat the US faces in this period. For almost all stealth operations, we the F-117 anyhow.
Again, the F-22 isn't practical at this point in time.

Yes you do have the Alps (one of my favorite places to fly in a simulator) but we have a few mountains here in the states too. We also have a rather extreme environment that we fly in called an aircraft carrier. That's kinda hard on an airframe too.

As I said, the F-22 is a wonderful plane. But for one F-22 you can buy 4 or 5 F-18's and still put down any real threat the US faces in this period. For almost all stealth operations, we the F-117 anyhow.
