As long as you're set up correctly you can fraps 1920x1080 full res no problem. But if you're on some old machine then it's not going to matter what you do, it's gonna suck.

It eats quite a lot of resources, I'll give you that...
I suggest you either:
1) Get a better PC (More RAM)
2) Tone down the settings
3) Get a better recorder (I highly suggest WeGame or GameCam)
