I hope Singapore Government will preserve this place as National Monument/Place or National Living Museum for all Singaporeans to witness in the Future
You guys can experience real kampung with the house owner preparing food. That means if there is two or three house who offer this homestay, the whole kampung's member do their normal activity..
If you stay with fisherman family, you guys can even ride the boat...
Kampung in rural place look better because space are abundant.. garbage can be burried. We have bigger drainage....Most house in Kampungs are surrounded by agricultural field, so houses are not very close... I think Singaporean, who is interested with Kampung can go to Malaysia. There is tourist program which is called "Homestay", where you can pay small amount of money( I am not sure), and you stay with the whole family. I am not sure if there Malaysia Chinese involve in this program.
I am Malay Malaysian. I think kampung in singapore should be updated with proper drainage and be cleaned properly. Make it look like it is organised. Otherwise it can be looked as backward and against singaporean image( I only assume).
Why should be updated? When there is issue with development, at least people dont judge kampung as backward..I hope I can go to this kampung in Singapore, to me it looks like kampung baru in KL. It is not preety sight unlike real kampung in rural place
I don't think it will be updated, as the kampong is actually very small (about 1.2 hectares). Moreover, the government have plans to redevelop the area and the surroundings. This is the last kampong in Sg, excluding Pulau Ubin - though Pulau Ubin is more of a tourist place than kampong, as there's barely anyone living on that island anymore.
Then again, it is really unusual and an exotic place to visit. Most younger generations like us have never ever seen a kampong before.
I hope Singapore Government will preserve this place as National Monument/Place or National Living Museum for all Singaporeans to witness in the Future
