  • "My father sends me money and I spend it very fast, on a girl I met at Berkeley in a social science class. Yes & we learned about her body, but her mind we didn't know. Until deep rooted attitudes & morals began to show/she'd settle for suburbia and a little patch of land. So I gave her up for music & The Free Electric Band." I left some words out, but those are great lyrics!!

  • absolute fav this 1 cheers m8

  • Great song.

  • Ich liebe dieses Lied..heute noch....nach so vielen Jahren..

  • cool i still love this song

  • Fantastic decade the 70s.

I was 12 or 13 at the time just getting into music and girls fantastic,oh take me back these were fun times.

  • First heard this in a hotel bar in Bangkok, Thailand in Sept 73. Just me, my buddy and the barmaid...we drank and asked her to play it over several times! Music was good then.!!! :-)

  • Oh yeah, i remember it as it was yesterday... i´ve heard that song also in english class last year ;-)

  • College in the East!!!! so True soo True...Thats me^^

  • civil engineers wooo

  • @JEFFRYZ2k9 Must be the only song to feature a lyric about civil engineers..

  • And have a go at the finely groomed,well-presented young pussy from the early '70's there. Oooh.yeah!

  • ah we listened to that in English class yesterday ... :)

  • we also on monday^^

  • Albert Hammond's best track is "The Free Electric Band". And that was on an Australian assorted artists compilation from 1973 - "Rock Explosion". Which in retrospect was one of the better assorted artists albums, as it had the studio version for this, along with John J,Francis' "Play Momma Play", one from horny Abigail;"Cassandra" from Sherbet;and a few other classics. Can't get a copy for myself these days - the old pre-recorded cassette I had of it is now history, but then, there's always Google.

  • yeah the edited version of that song of course on rock explosion they edit one verse out

  • Whether or not this clip is the miming of the recorded version, its close to what I'd want,if not completely it.Otherwise,Albert Hammond did his live versions very accurately to the recorded. "Rock Explosion'' edited out a verse eh? Well, you learn something new every day - its years since I've heard "Rock Explosion" - and probably years,if ever, til I hear it again. And thanks - its far out someone else recalling "Rock Explosion" - in particular. I'll request "Free electric Band" on radio soon.

  • i love this song!

  • SUPER SONG

  • Party hard!

  • One of my best oldies music

  • Heard this on the radio earlier today for the first time in years. What a great song

  • lol he has a loose string

  • Wow this song takes me back. Too many cigarettes, way too much coffee, unemployemnt, a religious fixation and serious mental health issues, yet this song was on the radio constantly, reminds me of bad times and good days.

  • I didn't know Albert Hammond sang this. Its amazing what you learn on youtube! Great song but hey, what about those ghastly clothes fashions back then!?

  • Thanks elvira2262

    a hammond free elec band

  • lol the last lines are so funny

"settle for suburbia and a little patch o land (sounding all nice up to here) - (fuck it) soo i gave her up for music and the free electric band"

  • I went to school in hand washed shirts with needly ordered hair,

And the school was big and newly build and filled with light and air,

The teachers tought us values that we had to learn to keep,

And they clipped the ear of any idol kid who went to sleep,

Than my father organized for me a collage in the east,

But I went to California the sunshine and the beach,

My parents and my lectures could never understand,

Why I gave it up for music and the free electric band.

  • Super Song!Seite gerissen

  • My father is a doctor, he's a familiarly man,

My mother works for charity whenever she can,

They're both good clean Americans who abide by the law,

They both stick up for liberty, they both support the law,

My happiness was paid for when they laid their money down,

For Summers in a Summer camp, and Winters in the town,

My future in the system was talked about and planned,

But I gave it up for music and the free electric band

  • They both support the "WAR" you nitwit

  • My father is a doctor, he's a familiarly man,

My mother works for charity whenever she can,

They're both good clean Americans who abide by the law,

They both stick up for liberty, they both support the law,

  • that raw voice could've gone much further in music.. why didn't he?

  • While this song did not chart high on the singles charts, he had other more succesful hits with, "It Never Rains In Southern California" and "Im A Train." He also wrote songs for Elton John and others.

  • i love this song!

  • Here's to Jim Gordon, the brilliant but troubled genius whose drumming graces this song

  • In 2005 he released his first UK album in many years, Revolution of the Heart, and the single "This Side of Midnight".

  • He didn't died. He made now songs in 2005 "Revolution Of The Heart"

  • lol.

Geiles Lied muss man mal sagen

  • Where is he today? This is a great song which should've been a bigger hit than it was.

  • This takes me back. I thought it was shit'ot when I was knee high to a grasshopper!

  • I grw up with an LP called"fANTASTIC"...... On that record was also"The Night The Lights Went Out In Georegia" by Vickie Lawrence and another song called"Back When My Hair Was Short".....I

m 31 so you guys that are thinking you're old are not........

  • Oh, thank you - then I can write too. I'm 58 and still kicking, and love this kind of music. I grew up in a time where there were great misic all the time. I miss it, but I can re-live it here on YouTube, and with all you nice people who gives us this videos. Greeting from Norway!

  • "Fantastic" was an album from "K-Tel Records" that put out a lot of albums with multiple artists in the 1970's. That was indeed a great album that also included Crockadile Rock by Elton John. I'm 44, so I'm surprised that you, at 31, remembers that album

  • I grew up with ALOT of different musical influences. I come from a family of talented,non-professional artists. My maternal grandmother used to sing for WLS in Chicago,my mother was a singer and piano player as well and my paternal grandfather played about 5 or 6 different instruments. Unfortunetly,I didn't get bitten by the music bug. I just know great music when I hear it.

  • I grew up with song....glad I drunk tonight....

  • Song never got it's due. everyone remebers " seems it never rains in Southern California" but I like this 1 much better

  • Thanx bro. One of my best oldies music (just give me bread and water and cutar in my hand). 5 star
