@nezzy14 There is a limited supply of helicopters, and the CH-149 is far better suited to operate over the ocean. Thus the Griffons fly inland, and the Cormorants on the coasts.
Sar techs have one of the most dangerous jobs out there, bless them and all of their hard work and courage, they have saved so many lives. this video is the best.
God bless everyone that choose to risk their lifes for saving the others. In Portugal we work with the chopper EH-101 Merlin. Congrats Canadian Cormorant. Keep up the good work.
I'm a Rescue Swimmer at Portuguese Air Force, EH-101, 751 Sqd. Great video. It shows what we, Rescue Swimeers, do at all world. Congratulations Canadian Cormorant
@outcast1711 Must be an amazing job... Limited Budget... Liberals were cheap asses, I hope you all get proper heilo's in the future, tail cracks from a doc i say they say it takes 2 hours to prepare the cormorant for flight? Hopefully the government gets a SAR version of the cyclone, fully kitted..
I was just in one of them yesterday, not flying unfortunatly. and bless the souls of the 3 sar techs and pilots and flight enginears that were killed a little while ago in nova scotia
if it was your ass in the frigid ocean, would you be worried if SAR was comming from the military or CCG? be grateful the government spends money on this in the first place. and i think our military is doing a world class job in everything it does. SAR is IMHO a very honourable job. makes me very proud to be a canadian, wanting to make sure every canadian is safe from danger
why does our military focus so heavily on the role of SAR?? why doesn't the Canadian Coast Guard step up an totally take that role so we can focus on military tasks, its funny that we would buy an spend so much money on SAR choppers to save drunk newfies in boats but our soldiers over-seas rely on other nations' helicopters for just about everything
@ORFdaGOD their not just on the coast lines, SAR is a rescue team for all of canada, if a small plane goes down in the north or isolated area, these guys jump out back of airplane, get on scene treat the people and wait for chopper or land rescue.
it's a piece of shit

Does anyone know why there are none in the C&A Region? Its the biggest SAR region yet DND decided to just use the Griffon... Anyone know why?

I know the Cormorant has the ground/weather radar in the nose, but where is the FLIR pod? where are its IR sensors???
ORFdaGOD 4 years ago
No FLIR, No IR. There was a fairly limited budget.

what i meant is, for example, we use german transport helo's to move in afghanistan and rely on dutch or american attack helicopters for support...
ORFdaGOD 4 years ago
in fact its the EH 101 (Merlin) designed in UK and Italy by Augusta-Westland and exported to Canada.
Nice and modern chopper.
