there's a pretty big amount of excess wood in this method doncha think? when for one thing eucalyptus wood is the best material for them and you have to think that the original way was with a fallen tree and sharp rock. with the amount of wood they just used there with the same amount of wood used properly could make about 10-15 boomerangs.
ya and think about that the ausie aboriganial was years ahead or us with airodynamics and you are ment to use a bent tree root or branch and there are proper killer ones
by the way what do you call a boomerang that dont come back ???? a stick
@MrYendor1968 aborigines and oh my lord are they smart sods. considering they've been around for literally 60,000 years but they haven't really had to change any of their hunting or gathering techniques (aside form the "inhuman" ways like biting the head off a snake) and the ways they corroborated (aboriginal word funnily enough) was clever too. if you stick piece of string to a hol in the end of a ruler and swining it round in a circle it makes a loud 'hum'. Instant signal to gather. ☺.
"to fine tune the boomerang he first softens it over a steaming kettle"??? they use a steaming kettle? wow! these guys are technologically advanced like no other...
I now have much more respect for our Aboriginal elders ... they made servicable boomerangs without any need for all that high-tec tomfoolery. Another example of modern people making something that was already perfect incredibly complicated!
WOW! Didn't know that the abos made boomerangs out of laminated wood with belt sanders. Must really be the traditional way. Oh and there were harly any puns in this clip. Nothing like, "After a night of drying, this bommerang is about to come full circle".
I scared the neighbors cat with one of these, it got scared when the boomerang busted into the drivers side window and out the passengers window... costs about 800 USD to fix... my parents grounded me for a month... literately...
lol they said with PLY-WOOD there is no need to laminate....... then how did the people the bought it from make the plys of wood glued together but not laminated/??
I meant the fancy big one with weights , it probably has a very beautiful low flight almost 200-300 feet . The one they showed was sup par (ok) compared to great flyers .
Oh ok. Yeah I hate when they introduce different things but don't show those in action. I've noticed it on a few other episodes so far and it's annoying.
Shame fully the boomerang should have been shown in flight , why this was omitted is a facepalm .This is a cadillac of boomerangs , the wooden strip method is advanced for woodworking aesthetics of multi grains.
@flyingscience They increase distance by increasing stability(through balance) and inertia. You make it sound like adding weight just increases lift magically.
@ataraxic89 I make boomerangs and demo them for public shows (see my icon channel video) . I never said weights add lift .Weights increase distance . A boomerang doesnt need to be balanced by weights , thats not the reason they add weights. a boomerang that is not perfectly ballanced will simply fly with an off center ,center of gravity .MTA (maximum time aloft) boomerangs look like hockey sticks and they fly fine (they can even be caught in updrafts and fly many hundreds of miles away .

Correction the lead weights are NOT for ballance .They are added to increase flight distance . Beginner makers simply tape down coins .
