One of my favourite bands but I'm glad I've never paid to see them live, it never looks as though you are missing anything special. Shame. If you don't like playing gigs don't start bands, kids!
@FatBlackFrancis Are you kidding? I've seen BTS twice, and both times, they were amazing. Their shows are so intense. I'd see them over any band but My Morning Jacket. Just because they don't jump all over stage doesn't mean they're not having fun. Doug has always seemed so genuinely into it; he packs up his own equipment and says thanks and hello to everyone who comes up to bombard him with the same ol' shit.
@FatBlackFrancis You OBVIOUSLY have never been to their live show! I've been to their show a few times and it was awesome. Neither time did they play any covers, I usually am not impressed by covers :/ I would encourage you to reconsider if they play in your area. They are not very responsive to the crowd, but I have never been disappointed.
well, well, what a lovely surprise. i was just looking for velvet waltz and came upon this. props to joe and the clash. also to doug. and that cellist is gorgeous, too. thanks for posting this, i really appreciate it!

omg I just looked at their version, it is god awful... you need to get back up in your tree dear before it's to late and you forget where it is and are never ever able to get back there... jesus!
Heh, they actually did that song more justice than MIA did at the Outside Lands festival. I'm a fan of hers but she was a little off towards the end of her show. Built to Spill, on the other hand, had a perfect show.
@rouguebird Written a year ago yet your comment still resonates with me this day... It seems like every concert I go to that guy is somewhere in the crowd waiting to make an appearance.
Paper Planes has broader pop appeal than Straight to Hell, but nothing in Paper Planes is as affecting as the verse around the "Christmastime in Ho Chi Minh City" line.
I'm sorry, but the M.I.A. version gets annoying kinda quickly. It's rather dull besides the sample from Straight to Hell which is a much better song anyways.
this song is a satire about society's perception of immigrants...anybody who doesnt know this by now has his head up his fucking ass, is plain fucking stupid or is lazy motherfucker who doesnt know how to look shit up.......which one are you?.....:)...good day...i said GOOD DAY SIR!
ugh im the same way. i hate when normal people catch wind of my favorite low key bands. i like the fact that im the only one of my friends that likes built to spill, neutral milk hotel, bright eyes, etc. so no. lets keep them a fucking secret
Its pretty selfish....most of us wouldnt like what we like if it weren't for a recommendation. I don't mind good bands getting big. I'd love to turn on my radio and hear built to spill or pavement. It beats the hell out of whats out there now.
noooo i disagree. ive gone through all of high school with very little friends who liked similar music as me. im kinda all over the spectrum with different bands but i hated how absolutely none of my friends liked radiohead. or sonic youth. or built to spill. i guess i love talking to people about music haha, its hard to do without similar tastes.
People always say this and I never get it. Im in high school and I know at least 20 people that LIKE Sonic Youth, much less know about them. And just about everyone knows Radiohead. Not so much Built To Spill, but Im trying to change that.
And talking about music is always much much better with different tastes. Wheres the fun in droning about how great "Paranoid Android" is?
Doug seems hilariously intense in this video. like he might actually stick out his guitar like Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line", yell "boom boom boom boom", and shoot someone in the front row with it.
They're known for that. They did an amazing cover of Macy Gray's "I Try" a few years back. Dunno if there's video of it, but they totally own the song live.
