After really watching her, I believe she's having some problems in her rear end which is probably due to imbalance of the medial (inside) hoof wall being longer than the lateral (outside) hoof wall. This will really make it hard for them to keep their leads right, as they are in pain.
Her hooves are cared for by a certified hoofcare person who studied under Ramey. She is very knowledgeable. She says she has, perhaps the most perfect hooves she has ever seen in a domestic horse.
I will look at the article anyway, but am skeptical that it's due to a hoof problem. (I wish it were something so simple!)
Are you Howard? I read the article. If she does have something like that going on, I'm sure it's subtle. Should I have my hoof person read the article? I'm not sure that I can see what you're seeing, sighting down the leg.
I am also a barefoot trimmer and I do the Ramey method as well as natural Balance. I'm so glad about your mare being done that way. But they are not "gods", and they are all still learning, more new things every day. It made a tremendous difference in my colt. But some barefoot trimmers don't want to listen to anythng from a farrier, but Pete Ramey was also a farrier.
No I'm not Howard (couldnt figger out what you meant there for a spell. Something is hurting that mare in the hind quarters, horses take their lead with the hind foot first and the front foot folows. That mare is hurting somewhere. I admire Pete Ramey and have learned much from what he's done. But you can't just expect one individual to know it all.
All trimmers should continue to study and read and research, because there is always more to learn, but like farriers, they often get in a rut, and make one guys teaching their religion. Then if a new discovery comes along they don't want to read it because it dose not come from the right person, and the horse suffers because of it. NOT saying yours is like that I don't know.
But ya see, people are real funny about their professions, and she might be offended that she did not see, the mare was not moving corectly. Maybe also a chiropractic adustment would help her. SURE WOULD KILL FOR SOME PICTURE OF HER FEET THOUGH! cAN YOU GET ME SOME PLEASE.
My trimmer studies more than any other hoof person that I've ever met. She reads research, goes to clinics, etc.
If the mare has a problem in her rear, I think it's coming from higher up. But sadly, the vet can't find anything. I have hoof pics. Let me try to dig them up.
I hate that head thing. I call it disco dancing. Sometimes she does it under saddle and it's really irksome!! But I still think she's adorable...and yeah, she is everything they say about arabs including the good and the bad!
I wish I had pics of her cantering left from 4 months ago.
Here is an article to read on it. I 3 year old was having the same problems, and then I discovered this and got him straightend out in a few trims and now he's back to his old athletic self again. Hope this helps, if that the case and it's easy to check.
Well I guess this thing won't let you post web address. So just type in the Horse Mechanic on google and you'll get an article called The Hoof Point: A Simple Solution to A Crippling Problem.
