I never had problems flying helicopters in gta4. Unfortunately firing from helicopter onto a moving target or a small target is next to impossible. On ballad of gay tony it took me 2 hours of real time to kill goons on mission sexy life. in gta4 itself it took me forever to shoot down helicopters for the mission or to chase a boat (which I never could even come close to hitting). I sincerely wish that gta5 will have better controls. sigh good old san andreas controls how i miss you).

its easier if u switched the heli controls and use the arrow keys to turn around and the up and down keys to tilt. EASY SHIT THAT I DONT KNOW HOW TO DO SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO GET GTA 4 AND WHERE!!

With EFLC im not sure how you did the camera stuff as in controls for EFLC their isnt a config to bind the right mouse button to camera lock.

@SkeeterUK I have recently bought both expansions. And the controls are the same (PC version on steam). The only difference is, that you have a secondary weapon in the little helicopter. I can still just hold the right mouse button in 3rd person view to freely look around.

@ToReEnT in GTA SA it was realistic, which was easier because your actions made sense now it´s like they wanted to simplify the controls, turning it into shitty and stupid. There´s no fucking way to control a chopper now thanks to their evolution.

After several violent crashes within a minute of taking off, I've concluded that it must be easier to fly a real helicopter than it is to fly in GTA 4.

when I fly it it feels a lot more heavy than it looks like in this video, if I pitch the helicopter forward a little bit it will go down towards the ground very fast, and because of this I can't finish the last mission where I have to follow a boat in the helicopter because I just end up in the water. am I doing something wrong or do I just suck?

I *HATE* the helicopter flight system in GTA 4 with . The mechanics are so unpredictable, that the helicopter can sometimes just turn on its side at the slightest error. I've found myself tearing apart soda cans with my BARE HANDS out of fury.

I play GTA IV on XBOX 360 and I think its quite easy to fly the heli, I just have some problems with landing :) Nice flying by the way.

but rock star made the pitch forward controls for the helicopter too fast it pitch forward way too quick and when u add power it take a while too build up forward motion so u end up with too much pitch and not enough forward motion and the helicopter auto centrers it self too when u release the forward pitch witch is way too annoying so u can not add small amount's off pitch too move forward

@boombox129 Not in the controls section in the game. Maybe it can be hacked in some way, or maybe there is a seperate program that can simulate somthing like that. I dont know

You might try these controls: L-Shift = pitch forward L-Ctrl = pitch backwards A = lean left D = lean right Q = rotate left E = rotate right W = accelerate S = decelerate Its gonna be tough to rotate and lean to either left or right at the same time, since you have to press either Q and A or E and D at the same time. Else, just be creative with your controls. You might even think about putting your controls onto another place of your keyboard. Ive heard of people using the numpad. good luck!

1st.: Gratulations on getting the game to work on a laptop (Gratz on having a laptop that can handle the game)

2nd.: This tutorial requires a mouse with 2 thumbbuttons. Your laptops touchpad isnt even a mouse, so you gotta figure out another way ;)

My mouse software allows me to set the two thumb buttons to whatever key i want. So you could set those two buttons to "j" and "k" and use it like that ingame.

As far as i know, GTA IV with the newest patch allows you to use "mouse 4" and "mouse 5" for helicopter controls (not for car/bike tho).

the setpoint software for Logitech can only assign the 2 thumb buttons for ALL applications, so if you are in Firefox, pressing it will do the same key-press as GTA4.

i have Logitech G5, and for left-right-tilt or the DPI change buttons, there is a way to assign specific action for specific application. i wonder why Logitech didn't allow that for the thumb buttons.

anyway, thanks for this tut, apart from the stupidity of thumb buttons, it's the perfect control scheme.
