I recently got a g4 and im wanting to upgrade the ram and hard drive, but I was wondering if the ram and hard drive have to be for macs ( I know that a noob question, but you never know with apple!)
Hopefully your still monitoring this thread. 1. you mentioned to make sure to watch the jumper settings, then say it doesnt matter. I have to make the same upgrade on my quicksilver 2002/933. so what settings should I be looking for? 2. how big can we go as far as storage on this machine? I was looking at the WD 320gb eide hd that I believe you used, but I was wondering if I can go bigger? any suggestions?
Acording to MacTracker, my 2002 model of the QuicSilver can read 128GB and more?!? Does anyone know if this is true? Well obviously, but I didn't think any of the G4's did.
i dont know if ur old enough stew to remember "smelling the ink" on the paperwork our teachers handed out in grade school, but seeing u smell that box cracked me up and reminded me of sunnyside elementary in greene county.(ofcourse you know its a fire training facility now, was formerly greene county skills home before that.) dont know why i felt compelled to give u a history lesson on sunnyside...lol..good vids bro, get back to puttin em out buddy
Actually it doesn't matter if the screwdriver is magnetic or not, because for one they are not powerful enough to do any damage, because there are much much more powerful magnets in the hard drive.
ATA/EIDE drives (others like SATA or SCSI if you put cards in for them)
Additionally, all Quicksilver 2002 models add support for hard drives larger than 128 GB, add support for dual displays, and have slightly faster optical drives.
You know what's funny? Your subscribed to me, and we both have 71 subscribers! Also that I use a Powermac G4 QuickSilver as my main machine and you have a QuickSilver.
haha, still cracks me up to see you smelling the box when you open it (like I said before, I do the same thing :D)... nice job on the video, by the way, I've been thinking for awhile about getting a PowerMac to serve as my desktop/storage computer, seems like they're seem easy enough to upgrade.
Hey, yeah the power mac and mac pro etc series are great to upgrade, because they are generally meant to be in service for years. Pretty easy to find on ebay also!
Hey! Great video! you are the best speaking instructor i have seen yet, AND you said some important stuff. "info cable" IN first, then power. makes sense to me; BUT I HAD NOT thought about it. Also While I am not afraid of hardware or electronics in there, I am afraid of software and issues with my new internal stuff i am going to be putting in: Your vid helped me chill out! Thanks.
Hey, thanks very much :) I just kind of say it as if someone is there next to me. (well there sort of was in the person with the camera) If you need any other help feel free to email me (address is in the video at the end) or send me a message on here. I will help all I can
It has five 3.5" drive bays (four are internal and intended for hard drives, and one is external and intended for a Zip 250 drive). With a single hard drive and no Zip drive installed, three internal 3.5" bays and the external 3.5" bay are free. The system also has an external 5.25" drive bay occupied by the optical drive.
There are trays that have one mounted over the other, and the second tray would go right next to the spot where the original drive is.
"Additionally, all Quicksilver 2002 models add support for hard drives larger than 128 GB, add support for dual displays, and have slightly faster optical drives."
These are great machines for doing time-lapse video capture in iMovie HD - a little overkill on the power consumption/noise, but you can load them with drives.
How did you learn to do all this s---?? You must be a freakin Einstein? Like an Inspector Gadget or that cool guy on Hogan's Heroes that built stuff out of nothing. Good Job as always...I may try this actually. If I am not on for a while, well you know that I f----d it up
You refuse to ground yourself? IDIOT.

it is kind of a waste because they can only read up to 120gb

@jjchockey if you notice at 1:01 I note that I am using the Intech high cap. driver to let me use all the space on the drive.

how many hard drives can the power mac g4 quicksilver use? cos i've got one myself
DudeofWonders123 3 years ago
hmm I think you can only mount one inside the case, but Im sure you could do something to use another one, probably 2.
qlet 3 years ago
i think you can actually add 2 on a standard mac, but there is room for 4. any additionals after the first 2 need a pci card w/ hard drive controller
but in know 2 at least, because i just put a new one in my Sawtooth and kept the old drive attached for a backup drive

Did the capacity show up as 137 GB?
murphicus 2 years ago
I thought that without a PCI controller card that the limit for HD size was 137.4 GB
I have an old 9600 PowerMac that has 6 bays - I know that the large drive limitation on those requires a PCI controller card for larger drives.

Thanks - I just answered my own question...
