  • Holly crap that a hit!

  • According to Jeff, This is his most scariest wreck in his Sprint Cup Carrer.

  • who came here cuz of jeffs comment on twitter?

  • Awesome to see that the crew members help out their fellow competitors. Don't see that as much in other sports.

  • This was my first race and the sound of this hit was something I'll never forget...

Also..the same thing happened to Martin with a few laps to go in this race, but not nearly as big of a hit.

  • my favortie driver such a shame

  • That's one of those wrecks that just make's you think how he didn't loose his life. He was pretty lucky on both hits. Such a great thing to see crews from other teams get him out quickly.

  • Great to see Jeff Gordon's Crew and it looked like Earnhardt's crew helping Burton out.

  • Man they hit effin HARD back before the softer walls.

  • This crash is underrated in terms of most brutal crashes from the 1990's in Cup.

I would MUCH rather barrel-roll 8 or 9 times and diffuse the impact over several hundred yards, than experience that type of extreme blunt force impact, not once but twice in this impact.

That outside wall impact could have EASILY killed Burton if you are a true race fan that has seen what type of impacts kill drivers. He's very lucky to be alive.

  • Didn't Ted Musgrave have a hard crash like this at Dover in the same year?

  • thats got to hurt

  • That looks so similar to the fiery wrecks Jeff had in almost the same area in 2000 and 2004!

  • it sounds like all the people talking are about to fall asleep,no emotions

  • They were in a comercial when it happened,so they were relaxing

  • Nice to See the Other Crews Running Over to Help, NASCAR May Have Its Fued and Shit but this Shows that there' some Good Character as well..

  • No wonder they called it "Spitfire"

  • as bad as this looks, i would argue it's the best thing that's ever happened to nascar: burton was not injured, and this gave nascar possibly the biggest safety advocate it's ever had

  • That sucks Burton is the best and that's cool that gordons guys helped him. But it's too bad i hate gordan

  • Shut up! The great guys that were members of Gordon's and Rusty's crew saw a car on fire and a driver in that car and ran to help. They did the right thing. Like Ned said, the safety crews were on the end of pit lane. This happened in the middle. Jef may not have been here today if it werent for them.

  • didn't jeff crash like that in 2000?

  • Hey hey Chuck Bown was up there in the booth! He did a good job up there too and has the right voice for the job. It's too bad he didn't get the opportunity to get up there in the booth after he stopped driving.

  • Jeff has had some really bad crashes at Dover

  • was he ok?

  • Man, I think it is amazing how many people watch crashes on youtube. 3s crash has 350000 views. It is amazing that he didn't get to badly knocked up in this crash, but still, people like to watch nascar for the accidents. That bothers me.

  • oliverleehornbake,

jeez do u think that we watch to see people get hurt? in my opinion the only thing fun to watch about nascar is

    1. crashes, especially at talladega

    2. green white checker finishes

  • @KCILEY, Green white checkered finishes are HORRIBLE...

  • @thecicadaking not as bad as when they'd just throw the fucking red flag with 5 laps to go just for shits and giggles, because at least now there's a rule for it.

  • Not only too see a little team do that, but did you notice that the DuPont guys were helping JB out, you won't see that today.

  • I disagree. I think if the result of a crash ends up near any crew guys on pit road, they will help out in a heartbeat. remember that this was back when they still raced back to the yellow flag, so it took longer for rescue crews to get there. Now they can get there quicker, so you may not see crews having to help out as often, but I promise you, if the need ever arises, they will be there.

  • @davidd2172 I saw something like this with Mark Martin at Daytona, I think it was. His car was on fire, and I think it was Jeff Gordon's crew helped to pull him out.

  • @davidd2172 Example of that was when Mark Martin's car caught on fire in last years Coke Zero 400 and Jimmie Johnson's crew pulled him out of his car.

  • i live like right next to dover

  • i live right next door to my next door neighbor:P:P:P

  • @jrfan07 i live next to a house

  • @Number10pen holy smoly, same here!, strange how things work out that way eh? :P

  • @jrfan07 i live next to a cemetary :(

  • @jrfan07 I live next door to my next door to a cursing guy who throws parties with beer all night and annoys me.

  • @mightyquinn8 you do cool jimmie always wins at dover

  • This was the first race I ever went to and saw this happen right in front of me.

Ricky Rudd was a lapped car adn clipped martin which ended up cutting his tire and he crashed with like 4 to go :(

Rusty won with 2 flat tires and no gas...lol

  • I was there as well. We were sitting right were Burton hit coming out of turn 4. The sound was incredible. Still have the same seats 14 years late. His duel with Kenseth in '06 was awesome.

  • I was sitting right there as well that day.

  • That was my first race as well. Have been going to Dover ever since. When Martin crashed with 5 or so to go, he did it right in front of my father and I. We were standing right near the start and finish line, about 10 feet from the fence. Rubber and grit were on everyone's faces, not to metntion a few blown hats as well. For a 9 year old at the time, it hooked me forever. By the way, does anyone else have any more videos of this race? Thanks

  • I know it was a vicious series of impacts, but that T-bird looked pretty flimsy and seemed to be falling apart at the seams.

  • What were the announcers saying at the beginning?

  • Go Gordon's crew!

  • It seems that most of the crew members who came to Burton's car were Jeff Gordon's crew members.

  • i was right past the finish line at this race, i was 7 and a firey race car was sure exciting

  • He hit those walls a ton!

  • you know you have repeect in nascar when another drivers crew helps you out of the car

  • who is that announcing w/ joy and baker?

  • Chuck Bown

  • wow.. talk about random and i thought wally had them beat..

  • Is it Bown? Sounds like Phil Parsons

  • @winters19 It's Bown, because you can hear a very slight Southern accent in his voice, whereas Phil has no accent

  • @setoguchifan16 Yeah it's Chuck Bown but it a mix of a accents he's From Portland Ore.

  • now thats teamwork.. don't see that a lot anymore

  • Well at the same track I think Jimmie Johnson's crew went to Kenseth's aide after he hit the tires in 2004.

  • i remember kenseth hitting the tires i must have missed the race and the team going after him. i do recall robert pressely at darlington in 01 and 2 teams came to assist him after his nasty crash

  • Is that when Terry wrecked him?

I just watched the 2002 Aaron's 499 big one and someone from Stewart's crew helped Johnny Benson when he was on fire.

  • dont forget about when ward burton had a bad qualifying crash at darlington in 96 i think, ricky rudd jumped over the wall to help, when you think about it theres a lot of cases where drivers/teams help eachother out.

  • this just goes to show how nascar truly is one big family.

  • @jrfan07 And on Saturday when Jimmie's crew helped Mark Martin out.
