It is cyclists like this that spoil it for the few good ones. (I am sure there must be more than 1 good cyclist, though I have only ever seen 1.) I am a cyclist, and well that guy was in the wrong. There is no reason to piss-off a driver of a car just because they were a little too close to you. A simple, hey man can you please give a little more room when going around me? Then a simple thank you for your time, and continue on.

Although my idea of a safe distance for my skill level might cause some pedestrians to panic, i have never hit anyone or made anyone go out of their way to avoid me.

Having lived in London for several years i see cyclists going way too fast all the time, not wanting to stop or even slow down for anyone. They are quick too bleat about driver road rage, yet they race about everywhere as though they own the roads and are the only people on them. Youtube is awash with videos of cyclists refusing to slow down for any kind of hazard.

I'm a cyclist not nearly as old as that ass and I know that even though motorists might be required in some states to yield to cyclists/peds that the reality is the car always wins in the case of an accident. So I ride very defensively in traffic. If a near miss occurs and no one was hurt, move on. Acting like that idiot only hurts cyclists in the eyes of the public.

The cyclists is essentially angry at the driver for being careless and inconsiderate. Meanwhile he uses violence and destroys somebody's property intentionally. When you're on a bike in a busy city street you aren't thinking about anything else other than getting to your destination because you can't afford to. What people fail to realize is how easily someone can be killed on a bicycle, to the driver it's nothing... "Oops got a bit too close" etc. for the cyclist he nearly got crushed hence the anger/adrenaline rush. Roads should be for cycling, it is the most efficient mode of transport in the world, yes, more than walking. Cars are grossly inefficient and damaging to the environment. Don't get me wrong, I love driving but inner city transport should really be bicycles. We have much to learn from countries like the Netherlands...

I agree with you, I visited Amsterdam last year and I was really impressed with how they structured their roads - and how crossing a cycle lane is actually more scary than crossing a road! However they separate the cars and bikes because cars are heavy pieces of machinery and can be lethal in the wrong hands. The majority of roads aren't designed for bicycles, let alone a dark airport tunnel. This cyclist clearly should have considered that.

I'm a cyclist not nearly as old as that ass and I know that even though motorists might be required in some states to yield to cyclists/peds that the reality is the car always wins in the case of an accident. So I ride very defensively in traffic. If a near miss occurs and no one was hurt, move on. Acting like that idiot only hurts cyclists in the eyes of the public.

When you're on a bike in a busy city street you aren't thinking about anything else other than getting to your destination because you can't afford to. What people fail to realize is how easily someone can be killed on a bicycle, to the driver it's nothing... "Oops got a bit too close" etc. for the cyclist he nearly got crushed hence the anger/adrenaline rush. It's easy to attack the cyclists but they are the vulnerable ones and at the end of the day they are the ones that end up hurt/dead, the car driver just ends up late for work.

For example, PERHAPS your car wouldn't have been scratched if you had given him more space or just avoided him? Roads should be for cycling, it is the most efficient mode of transport in the world, yes, more than walking. Cars are grossly inefficient and damaging to the environment. Don't get me wrong, I love driving but inner city transport should really be bicycles. We have much to learn from countries like the Netherlands...

I agree with you, I visited Amsterdam last year and I was really impressed with how they structured their roads - and how crossing a cycle lane is actually more scary than crossing a road! However they separate the cars and bikes because cars are heavy pieces of machinery and can be lethal in the wrong hands. The majority of roads aren't designed for bicycles, let alone a dark airport tunnel. This cyclist clearly should have considered that.
