@badboyvr4 Yup. Plus Alex was more popular than Derek as shown in the episode. As a dude, it was cool that Alex stayed with the hot chick on the entire planet, but also the hot chick on that part of the galaxy.
2:45-3:35........THE most touching scene in the series.Yeah i'm a guy and all,but back in the day i could barely look at the screen, especially when she first walks up to the guy and is like" i ...i ....then drops the " L " word, whoa! !, that just tugged at the heart strings!Yes i'm going to admit, lol.
Even though Star Blazers wasn't allowed to show people getting killed up close and personal, give them credit for at least acknowledging the deaths of MOST of their characters. I wish Yu-Gi-Oh and other anime translations were able to do as much.
Still, the fact that Orion mentioned Sparks' passing here makes the "Knox got out right behind you" line in season 2 even more puzzling.
Lots of weird critcism about production circumstances doesn't detract from the fact that this is an awesome show, even if a lot of the story doesn't make sense. It's a kids' show, for crying out loud! Nova telling Starsha "you should do something to bring yourself some happiness" is a truly great moment.
@wereotter1 True true! This is just science fiction, and it is 32 years old. But at the time in 1979, half of the whole USA was loving this saga, and many still do, and this saga gave plenty of inspiration for George Lucas to create Star Wars! Need I say more?
some of the writing is very poor for this series...it made no sense for Sparks to stay on a planet that was unstable...and then we didnt even see what happened to them...the whole planet is nice EXCEPT for that one island and Sparks and his comrades decided to pick that one island where they met their grisely end...again, very poor writing.
The planet wasn't nice...it was dead. One giant cemetary. Diamonds were valuable and indestructable, so it made sense for them to pick an island that was indestructable. Unfortunately, Diamonds also cleave and shatter. They probably had more in the japanese version, but this was good enough for 1970's kid's TV.
@3dartistguy if I remember it right some of the crew were supposed to stage a mutiny against Wildstar in the original Japanese story plan, but when the episode got count due to low ratings in the original Japanese run a lot of stories didn't leave the drawing board. In this case some of the crew deserting with Nova creates a little action to wrap up an otherwise action-free episode.
I'll bet Derrick and Alex Wildstar would've made one helluva team fighting the Gammillons on the way back to Earth.

Well, I guess that Alex and Starsha are going to be the Adam and Eve of a brand new Iscandar. I guess it's our turn next Nova!
Nova smiles... "Hmmm.... " She's secretly a FREAK!! She got some baby-makin' plans with ol' Wildstar!

I have to admit, if some Hentai company made some Starsha of Iscandar pornography, I would so totally watch it.

I do hope that Wildstar can figure out how to populate the earth with nova. He seems so inadequate in all areas of his life.

Battle of the Planets was heavily edited from the Japanese version as well. Lots of people died on it as well.
