AH i like this video because i wanted to see how they naturally behave with a human encounter... this one looks very non-threatening, but u should still give it much respect and either kill it (if necessary), observe it, or leave it be.
@staphinfection Absolutely. The Taiwanese coral snake, also found in various other parts of SE Asia is deadly - there is no antidote to its bite. It's red and black without a hint of yellow!
i've caught a couple of those in south texas, and yes red on black venom lack, red on yellow kill a fellow. just look at the scarlet king snake, non venomous and red touches black. beautiful snakes though and do a service to us by eating rodents and such.
Onle applies to US and northern Mexico, the exception may be the western coral snake, which instead of yellow, it has white bands. In central Mexico, central and south america these identification tips are not appliable as there are some coral snakes completely red or red/black, totally lacking a third color.
Of the fatal snake bites that occur each year, something like 75% of those for males under 30 occur because the dumbasses were fucking around with the snake (ie, not accidental).
On the other hand, what a wonderful service snakes provide to society each year, culling out the truly stupid from the gene pool. Go snakes!
On poisonous snakes, the red ring touches the yellow.
Check the pattern of the bands on a snake to identify a Coral snake. The Coral snake is ringed with narrow yellow and wider black and red stripes. On a Coral snake, the red rings touch the yellow, whereas on the non-poisonous snakes they do not.
It has the patterns of a non-venomous scarlet king snake, or louisiana milk snake (smaller black stripes, no thick yellow). I'm not sure if these guys live in Jaguanum Island, but regardless, that's not the pattern of the deadly eastern coral snake. If it was, poking it would be an extremely stupid thing to do.
LOL! Hey it's a highly venomious member of the cobra family. Hmm, I think I'll poke it with a stick and piss it off...then dedicate it to Steve Erwin! Nice!
@turdburper The U.S. exception is the Organ Pipe Shovelnose Snake. It resembles the ArizonaCoral Snake from above, but it has red saddles which do not cross the underside, has a tellow band across the front of the snout, and vibrates its tail and strikes repeatedly when disturbed. The highly venomous Arizona Coral Snake does not vibrate its tail or strike, but hides its head in its coils and pops its cloaca. It may bite when frightened. Its red rings circle its body and its snout is all black.
@Wlmitch1 CORRECTION: It resembles the Arizona Coral Snake from above, but it has red saddles which do not cross the underside, has a yellow band across the front of the snout, and vibrates its tail and strikes repeatedly when disturbed.
@turdburper your right but the other snake with red on yellow is a texas longnose snake an therfore is a verryu easy snake to reconise cause its tail head an pattern, the rule is a pretty good one an should be followed imo plus the coral snake looks like a pincle that has been colored, he is so think a neasy to reconise,
@ffairlane57 not here mate, just google Micrurus circinalis and Micrurus lemniscatus, they totally defy that 'Jack' etc rule! check out jcmnaturalhistory website.
