I have a question........is it necessary to keep your hand open when you pick? mine kind of stays closed in a fist.....I can't get any power on my low e....it's a 42 though...just wondering if people have told you to pick like that....b/c all my favorite players do...

I believe it's just a personal thing, as long as you're relaxed and it feels right to you, it's fine. I can play with a somehow more closed fist too, but that's only on the higher strings mostly. When I'm on the low E, I just can't get the sound I want and it just feels very wrong for me with a closed fist. Just try different ways until you find one you like :)
