And to answer your question about artists, Shakira released a special edition of her first album in portuguese, n she speaks it fluently. Ricky Martin also speaks portuguese and sang a song in portuguese. E eu falo tambem essa lingua, é muito facil pois é muito parecida ao espanhol !!

Shakira is multilingual however compare her Portuguese accent with that of Brazilian verses European Portuguese. Comparing Shakira from South America and Nelly from Canada with their very different backgrounds is like apples and oranges.

she doesn't really speak Spanish or Portuguese, she just knows some sentences: that's why you will hear her sing in those languages (mostly, to lyrics that other people wrote with her), but you will never see her speaking fluently... she just can't... it's so embarrassing when she shows up on Spanish language channels, but she will just say one or two sentences in Spanish and immediately switch back to English
