Real shame a career ending injury befell Pour Moi before he ever got his shot at running in this year's Arc De Triomphe. I certainly think he looked the best among the 3yr.old prospects heading into the race. Although a strong case could also be made for Galikova now. Still, it's not as if Andre Fabre is left without any kind of chance of winning the Arc? As Meandre has proven a more than capable 3yr.old colt at G1 level for Fabre this season, also.
He boasts a classic Epsom Derby pedigree, in that he is by Montjeu out of a Darshann mare. It was interesting to see him display some of the Montjeu temperament in the early stages (pulling his head), but of more interest, was the fact that he wasable to sweep past the field in such grand style, and in a fast ime, afterbeing checked early. A well balanced sort, with a long stride, you can see him coming down the ooutside at Epsom to nail the terrier CArleton Housein the last two furlongs.
Horses held-up in last as they enter the home straight simply don't win at Saint-Cloud. I was tremendously impressed with his turn of foot and his excellent young jockey, Mikael Barzalona, didn't even have to reach for the persuader. Obviously, given how hard he pulled in the early stages, the worry is those early exertions will take their toll up in trip but this is clearly still an inexperienced horse and he's only going to get better. A highly promising individual.
Another Andre Fabre trained 3yr.old notches another win. You just can't beat the training methods of Andre Fabre. Best trainer in France, and one of the very best trainers in all of Europe, IMO. Also think young Mikael Barzalona has really been a revelation this season.
