Instead, as with our 2 performers here, today there is the tendency for both to scream their heads off on a high C and all the beauty of the composer's work is lost. Listen to Gedda and Freni or Bjorling and Schymberg and hear real beauty.
I think she's got a great voice, but she tends to oversing the simplest phrases and slows the whole pace down needlessly. I think she should employ a little bit of staccato and delicacy, for example in 'curioso'. Is it just me?
I actually have the score for La Boheme, and Rodolpho isnt even supposed to sing the last two "amors" with Mimi. While Mimi sings an A/C, Rodolpho is supposed to sing an F/E. It was changed to I guess add more power. But I actually prefer the original :3

Pues a mi me da mucho orgullo ver a un compatriota en escenarios de tal importancia, donde han pasado grandes cantantes, como ellos mismos; y que ademàs estàn ahi a base de disciplina, trabajo, humildad y tremendo talento reconocido por lo que si saben de musica... no gente frustrada, envidiosa o ignorante del gènero lìrico.

Sé de Diego Flórez y Villanzón y en verdad cantan grandioso, pero no pueden compararse, porque son voces distintas. ¡Hombre es como comparar a M. Caballé con M.Callas! ¿Quién es mejor? ¡Por favor!. Salvo que tú seas una belleza física, sólo así podrías criticar, y con todo, hay gente que aunque sea físicamente agradable, posee HUMILDAD.

Creo que si es gordito o no nada tiene que ver, hay muchos cantantes operísticos gorditos y qué voces tienen o tuvieron: L.Pavarotti, M. Caballé, M. Horne. Ahora, pues ellos como cantantes profesionales experimentan cambios de voz. Sólo su incursión en este medio es lo que los moldea. Raffsinger tiene razon. El pinguino tiene un limite y ya no va a pasar de ahi. No tiene el potencial de otros tenores que se han vuelto inmortales. Nadie se acordara del pinguino en unos anios.

Este no es mas que un payaso que quiso ser cura, quiso ser tenor, quiso ser escritor, filosofo, novelista, director, estrella de tv, etc. Y nada se le dio... Pancho Villazon, NO es un tenor profesional. Nunca lo fue. Te repito que solo fue un payaso con un disfraz de tenor. Los contactos lo ayudaron a llegar a cantar hasta en el Met y en su momento algunos hasta llegaron a creer que de verdad era un tenor y hasta el nuevo Domingo. Con todo respeto a los conocedores.... pero nunca me ha gustado como canta "Pinguino Gordo" osea Vargas, un tenor con voz carente de brillo, como diriamos un tenor comun y corriente, ni siquiera carismatico, como Placido Domingo, ... para nada cercano a Pavarotti, en el final Netrebko se lo "come" solo se escucha ella... eso no le hubiera sucedido a Juan Diego Florez, el rey del Bel canto!!! Este gordito prieto fue un desastre en esta aria desde la primera nota hasta la ultima nota. Le salio totalmente gritada y sin control de las frases. Claramente el aria esta fuera de sus posibilidades.
Una de dos:
1.- O el aria le queda demasiado grande
2.- O la Netrebko lo puso tan nervioso que el guey no dio una. Poco le falto para que le saliera un gallo y se cagara en los pantalones frente a Netrebko que lucia impresionante.

Its just done like this for showing off purposes only! You'll find that there are many recordings of this duet where in the middle of the aria its transposed down so the tenor can reach the B natural more easily! As I said it just for showing off! Personally I think it sounds a lot better how it is actually written!

Estuve en ese concierto. Netrebko, excelente. Vargas difícilmente se escuchaba. El baritono cantaba bien, pero muy abierto en su Mi. La mezzo era muy buena. Flojo Vargas. Debieran haber puesto a un tenor más a la altura de las circunstancias.
Muy buena la voz de Ramón Vargas, al igual que la interpretación. Su voz es mucho mejor que la de Domingo en esta misma interpretación de hace 14. Netrebko muy bella voz.

It is always difficult to compare two great artists,one still living and the other no longer with us, without sounding somewhat disrespectful to either one.Gifted with two of the most beautiful tenor voices, RV & LP attained their fame and stature quite differently;Pav had a much easier way being Italian with unprecedented media adulation and promotion,and Vargas a very hard way being Mexican without any media push.RV developed artistically more so than LP out of his primal need to survive

Pues a mi me da mucho orgullo ver a un compatriota en escenarios de tal importancia, donde han pasado grandes cantantes, como ellos mismos; y que ademàs estàn ahi a base de disciplina, trabajo, humildad y tremendo talento reconocido por lo que si saben de musica... no gente frustrada, envidiosa o ignorante del gènero lìrico.
por cierto, aunque villazòn no es tan de mi agrado....si visitas su pàgina veràs que si canta y en escenarios muy importantes :D

Y A TODOS LOS QUE PROFIEREN INSULTOS, SIN MAYOR FUNDAMENTO, A SABER POR QUÉ RAZONES. Si son tan buenos, pues suban un video interpretando a dueto o arias de Villazón y Vargas, ¡a ver de qué tan excelentes voces están dotados! Veamos si son dulces y bien equilibrados en el vibrato, o ágiles en las picadas, los ligados, las florituras y todos los requerimientos vocálicos de un tenor, si es que siquiera saben qué es un tenor.

@raffisinger68 Vale, es que antes de comparar hay que saber qué tipo de tenores son si es lírico o ligero, aunque en realidad esto no implica mucho la potencia. Sé de Diego Flórez y Villanzón y en verdad cantan grandioso, pero no pueden compararse, porque son voces distintas. ¡Hombre es como comparar a M. Caballé con M.Callas! ¿Quién es mejor? ¡Por favor!. Salvo que tú seas una belleza física, sólo así podrías criticar, y con todo, hay gente que aunque sea físicamente agradable, posee HUMILDAD.

Creo que si es gordito o no nada tiene que ver, hay muchos cantantes operísticos gorditos y qué voces tienen o tuvieron: L.Pavarotti, M. Caballé, M. Horne. Ahora, pues ellos como cantantes profesionales experimentan cambios de voz. Sólo su incursión en este medio es lo que los moldea. Raffsinger tiene razon. El pinguino tiene un limite y ya no va a pasar de ahi. No tiene el potencial de otros tenores que se han vuelto inmortales. Nadie se acordara del pinguino en unos anios.
En cuanto a Pancho Villazon, finalmente la vida lo puso donde debe de estar. Cantando rancheras. Este no es mas que un payaso que quiso ser cura, quiso ser tenor, quiso ser escritor, filosofo, novelista, director, estrella de tv, etc. Y nada se le dio... De regreso al circo de donde nunca debio salir!

Pancho Villazon, NO es un tenor profesional. Nunca lo fue. Te repito que solo fue un payaso con un disfraz de tenor. Los contactos lo ayudaron a llegar a cantar hasta en el Met y en su momento algunos hasta llegaron a creer que de verdad era un tenor y hasta el nuevo Domingo. Pero mas pronto cae un hablador que un cojo y la vida lo puso en su lugar.

Vargas tiene una voz debil y Netrebko aqui literalmente se lo comio como si el fuese un pequenio pichon y ella un aguila.
Muy elegantemente vestido pero ni se molesto en visitar al peluquero antes y comprarse un rastrillo. Parece que salio de un basurero para vestirse de gala. Como siempre los tenores mexicanos solo andan quemando a sus compatriotas por donde quiera que van. Una verguenza! Ya no hablemos de aquel payaso sin dignidad que anda por ahi quemando a los mexicanos con su circo barato

Con todo respeto a los conocedores.... pero nunca me ha gustado como canta "Pinguino Gordo" osea Vargas, un tenor con voz carente de brillo, como diriamos un tenor comun y corriente, ni siquiera carismatico, como Placido Domingo, ... para nada cercano a Pavarotti, en el final Netrebko se lo "come" solo se escucha ella... eso no le hubiera sucedido a Juan Diego Florez, el rey del Bel canto!!! Claro esta que uno es un tenor y el otrao un tenor ligero... pero la diferencia en calidad se nota!

Este gordito prieto fue un desastre en esta aria desde la primera nota hasta la ultima nota. Le salio totalmente gritada y sin control de las frases. Claramente el aria esta fuera de sus posibilidades.
Una de dos:
1.- O el aria le queda demasiado grande
2.- O la Netrebko lo puso tan nervioso que el guey no dio una. Poco le falto para que le saliera un gallo y se cagara en los pantalones frente a Netrebko que lucia impresionante.

@theconfusedsinger comenzando por el hecho de que no es un aria, es un Duetto. Efectivamente no es la mejor interpretación de Vargas pero debes reconocer el alto nivel técnico de cada uno (tanto de Netrebko como de Vargas) y pues tampoco suena descabellado que Netrebko lo halla puesto nervioso!.

@TheCatcherkid Sorry, but its not meant to be a B natural or a C!!! Its written by the composer as harmony for the tenor! Only the Soprano goes up to the C! Its just done like this for showing off purposes only! You'll find that there are many recordings of this duet where in the middle of the aria its transposed down so the tenor can reach the B natural more easily! As I said it just for showing off! Personally I think it sounds a lot better how it is actually written!

I like to sing the high C also,my video is on youtube.I have not done the role on stage....From Caruso you can ONLY hear studio performance. Today,someone can film you (on a bad day) and put it on the net.....Hard to be a singer today... But still,easier to learn from older singers,lot of recordings.....(Though a lot is a "fake" on them.)

Estuve en ese concierto. Netrebko, excelente. Vargas difícilmente se escuchaba. El baritono cantaba bien, pero muy abierto en su Mi. La mezzo era muy buena. Flojo Vargas. Debieran haber puesto a un tenor más a la altura de las circunstancias.

Vargas se ha perfeccionado bastante, en esta Aria canta muy bien, pero Netrebko no ha mejorado en nada su fraseo, las palabras no se le entienden, ademas que en vivo no tiene tan bonita voz, en el Romeo y Julieta del 2007 del MET (02/10) su presentacion fue deplorable, ojala mejore con el tiempo.. dudo...

Threre are many, many opera lovers out there who don't get Netrebko. She's certainly not great, but she is very attractive, the latter attribute contributing heavily to here success. Just my two cents.

It is always difficult to compare two great artists,one still living and the other no longer with us, without sounding somewhat disrespectful to either one.Gifted with two of the most beautiful tenor voices, RV & LP attained their fame and stature quite differently;Pav had a much easier way being Italian with unprecedented media adulation and promotion,and Vargas a very hard way being Mexican without any media push.RV developed artistically more so than LP out of his primal need to survive
