I remember seeing Chris on a late night tv show, being interviewed by I think it was Jay Leno, and Chris was acting more manic than anybody else I'd ever seen in my entire life. I expected to turn on my computer one morning soon after, and seeing the announcement saying Chris was dead from a heart attack. But things didn't happen that way.
SNL has periods when it’s funny & periods when it’s not. The beginning w/ Belushi, Curtain, etc. Bad for awhile, then Murphy, Piscopo, then bad for a few years, then Farley, Carvey, Miller, Myers, Nealon, etc. Then bad now everybody is waiting for it to be good. It hasn’t been funny for 15+ years. Tina Fey could have been better if she had a better cast to work with. Folks watched as kids it, or we’d tape as adults, and watch it the next day, but SNL has sucked for a decade & 1/2. Cancel it.
Nobody made me laugh as hard as Chris Farley did when I was growing up. If I had a flimsy wooden table, I'd do a belly flop onto it in tribute. I hope Chris can see now, the true positive influence he had on the world.
young people die every day. but for some reason when a celebrity dies young the world mourns and it's a huge tragedy worthy of a dozen tv specials. we have this idea that human life is cheap unless you're rich and famous, and then you're worthy of grieving over. i hate celebrity worship. it just proves how stupid and sheep-minded the average person is.
Looks like Chris's father was as much to blame for his drinking / start of eventual death as much as Chris was. Nice Father he had....sounds more like an asshole. Good job daddy, good job taking care of your God given son.
@schinkelfamily Alcoholism is influenced by both hereditary and environmental factors. Addictions , particularly addictions to alcohol tend to run in families. Check out the states for Irish Alcoholism It's not just the butt of many jokes but some real truth to it. Son's of father's that are alcoholics are 50% more likely to become one them selve, could his dad have change Chris's fate? By enviorment, by exaple? yes but would the out come have been any different?
@msjosephine2 I know what you're saying. No he probably still would have ruined his life with drugs and drinking regardless of his dad. The thing that is a real sore point and just sad and pathetic here is that his dad refused to try to HELP later on in life even if he knew his son was gonna be a bitch about it when he came home at times. That as far as the lady in this video is saying happened is just beyond me. I've got kids and even if it caused a fight, I'd still try.
@msjosephine2 Point being you never give up on your kids, the ones you should naturally die for because you love them too much. You shouldn't nag too much because that can also work against you but shit, if later in life my boy or whatever is about to freakin die and I know that's a possibility due to some situation that's going on, I certainly would not step aside and ignore it. I don't know anything about this dudes family or dad but if what she said is true, not cool dad.
@schinkelfamily So conclusion is I think it's pathetic on Farleys' dad to step aside and let things happen even though knowing if he tried to help most likely it wouldn't but there is always the possibility...shit it's your kid. How can you just give up on your kid no matter how many times you have tried. Even people who have kids in jail who have gone through hell because of it normally do not give up on their kid regardless of the hell their kid put the family through.
R.i.p chris farley, hope your in that van down by the river up in heaven....
And for some of the negative comments on here who think addiction is easy to kick, try being an addict @18. I've been to rehab once for 6 months and I'm proud to say I'm living clean now, today is my one year of living sober. We miss you chris, rest with love.3
@Thrashaero Yeah but if you has struggled the way Farley did, would you want your supposed confidant to blabber your private situation and weaknesses and times for money on a tv special? It shows me the culture of Hollywood. A Lonely place where people care about themselves, money and fame. No wonder Farley did drugs even though everybody loved him. He was blinded by his environment and fake friends like Dick.
And how about the irony of Artie Lange appearing in this? A lot of similarities it would seem. I hope he is getting the help he needs. I don't want to lose another of my favorites.
they actually left out alot, like one deal is he couldn't get a date until famous, well the rest i wont mention but i think this documentary is half truth on what really was going on with this good man,its not all about dope n drink,so comment up what y'all want its way deeper then they way this makes this look,i knew Cris before he was famous and its stems to child hood..and its bullshit the way these Hollywood ass holes make it seem as usual..im a radio talent and he was shy with comedy at first
Chris's father = one of the factors that contributed to his death. "Well its not my problem, I dont have to stop drinking..." Thats some selfish shit.
Very good explanation of what happened, such a great loss. My son graduated high school as valedictorian.....he included the "living in a van down by the river" line in his speech to hundreds of people at the ceremony....and as always everyone just loved it, they laughed and laughed!
You know i didn't know that Chris Farley died until Today, Men He was the best Comedian In Beverly hills Ninja and almost heroes. You have my Respect men.
@songlyon They took me on as staff after I had trouble paying after the second month. You'd be surprised how far people will go to help you when they know you're willing.
@SeanSolomon11287 Same for me as well, pal. I was 4-5 when I saw my very first episode of SNL and it just so happened to be him as Matt Foley. It was at that moment when I decided that I wanted to be just like him and to this day I still try my hardest to channel him through me when it comes to my comedy and personality. I owe a lot to him because I wouldn't be 10% of who I am today if it hadn't been for him. Here's to our hero. Rest in peace, Chris.
Chris Farley was originally cast as the voice of Shrek and even recorded part of the dialogue. However, after his death, the role was given to Mike Myers who insisted on a complete script rewrite, to leave no traces of Farley's version of Shrek. However Shrek's air quotes in the outstanding animated movie is an homage to Chris.
I don't understand how someone can achieve that level of success without substance abuse. I'm not sure if I could..not like that. Chris was one of a kind. A high profile, high pressure lifestyle and it sounds like those SNL contracts caused him considerable stress. He lived though that's for sure and I admire that about him in addition to his brilliant character. RIP Chris Farley-We miss you.
I don't think people were just "laughing at the fat guy". Farley's funniness had not so much to do with his weight as with his personality and talent. He was just extremely good at what he did and would have been hilarious at any size.
We lost one of the greatest comedians way too soon. I'll never forget him. I was a teenager when he died and it was right after my birthday. If there was one person I could bring back it would be Chris.
14 years since he died, and I still miss him.I picture him having a great career today, sitting at the top echelon of comedy.Oh yeah,I'm 27 now and I was a kid through most of Chris's time on SNL.
this guy just didn't love himself I think, he never grew up, to bad! he was funny I agree but he was also a loser since childhood , I would have send him to a shrink if I would have been his father, and payed special attention to his behavior
28 day rehab.... I just have to say this. I've been clean from heroin and cocaine for 5 years now. I went in to TONS of 30 day programs and left and relapsed. I didn't stay sober until I checked in for a YEAR. That's what it took for me and I think that's what he needed.
@rsohlich1 i said 30 in my last comment but in reality probably about 9 times. I'd probably be dead if my dad didn't have the money to keep sending me back in every time I wanted to kick. The trick was I didn't leave my last time until I'd worked my all the way up to and including my fifth step. The 4th step is basically writing down everything you're ashamed of and the fifth is reading that to your sponsor. I read mine in front of 8 other people. I walked out of that room with no secrets.
@quasiphatpaul thanks man, I will keep trying. But glad to hear you're doing better. Life is too short for me to keep fucking up with this crap. It is no good anymore. Just need it to function. Sure you know how that can be.
