from the 600n standpoint your getting six seats instead of 4 with the 500 series and no i have heard the tail torque on the notar is not that good but from a safety perspective excellent to have i would much rather have the 600 notar with the loveseat in the front you can get 8 for the 600 and 5 with 500
Right motokid032... cuz from watching this video, you know the wind conditions, what speed, what direction, souls/weight on board, and EVERY OTHER variable that contributes to blow-back (i.e. "walk"). So what if he "walks" a bit anyway? He obviously has the A/C under control. So shutup, and quite trying to "be the cool one" on YouTube. Moron.
and if i had the choice, i would have a 500d or a good old jetranger :) if the 206s have been running strong for 40 years, i dont see why they cant carry on without every heli manufacturer trying to replace em!
The point I was making is that it's dangerous to walk in back of a helicopter with a tail rotor as well as possibly hitting something with it while in in flight or landing.
Some of the thrust from the turbine is sent down the tail boom and out through a nozzle which is controlled via the foot pedals. This counter acts the torque just like a tail rotor would.
Its not thrust from the turbine, the turbine is just a Turboshaft engine, so it powers a shaft, unlike a normal jet, the NOTAR system uses a ducted fan inside the tail boom which has variable pitch blades, and the nozzle at the end rotates aswell,NOTAR helis are not as effiecient helis with tail rotors
SOG240, There is a big difference between flying piston and turbine and it really depends what you are going to be doing once you have taken the turbine transition. Are you just flying for fun or are you looking to make it a career? Turbine time is always a valuable asset with larger companies.
I haven't flown anything larger than an R-44. Can any pilots out there tell me what's it's like to fly a turbine, specially the NOTAR, compared to a piston helo. I was thinking about taking a "Turbine Transition" course.
500D?! I hope you speak about the 500E or the newer 530F. The 500D is old. However, my opinion is that the MD600N is the best helicopter of his category. Technologically advanced systems and great performances. The problem is that he is quite new. The MD500 series have been very successfully. The 600, even if it originally comes from the 500 series, is a new generation of helicopter. He need some years to find his place in the market.
In terms of technology, I'm sure it is nice, but the 500D was the ultimate of all the models, trust me. The reason is the pointed noses that came out after the "D" models. They make the aircraft unstable at higher speeds, so the engineers had to install larger stabalizer surfaces on the tail. Nothing goes as fast as the D model. Furthermore, all MD aircraft have a terrible autorotation profile, but the 600s have the worst of them all.

If you've ever walked in back of a helicopter before, the answer would be obvious.
