  • Heaven !

  • @ militarymight. Also my brother and myself did a tribute to David and Eddie at the Apollo Theatre. Add me as ur friend. Militarymight lots of news to share.

  • Four tops all the way!!!!!!!!

  • The Temps All Day!

  • MY BLACK PEOPLE!!!

  • I performed with David Ruffin at the Phelps Lounge in Detroit Mi. He was one of the original lead singers of the Temptations. It was an awesome experience.

  • @twgantt YOUR KIDDING! please tell me all about it!!

  • If I lived in that time. I would be so freaking happy. But hooray for the internet and digital stuff so I can still enjoy this awesomeness.

  • thumbs up if you sang when Levi told you to!

  • Truvonna1 that was at the Apollo in NY. My brother and sisters saw lots of great shows there but nothing's as good as the temptations and the four tops. The best music could ever get. I miss the music we had in the early 60s and Motown. It was feel good soul music. And none of the rap filth they do today.

  • Great....Great

  • That was wonderful!

Can anyone tell me what this show was?

  • Thumbs up, fingers up and everything else up if you're singing and wiggling like your dad at your mother's birthday party..............I love those times....just wish I could have been there. :D

  • every time I look at this video I see something new notice how the Manhattans are cracking up at the Tops just as they start cutting loose at the end of the battle right before speedo jumps in the Manhattans look like they are njoying it as much as the audience but I guess they all were in their own way

  • What was FANTASTIC about these times was - everyone LIKED each other! These groups were incredible, and they had FUN. They were paid, but GREED and competition didn't run their lives. They ENJOYED their music - and we did too. How I miss those days.

  • wish that was me hugging Levi the way Woodson was at the end of the first part

  • I was a teenager in high school when all these songs were popular.

They survived the Beatles and the "British invasion" in the 60's.

They don't make music like that anymore.

  • Absolutely Fabulous to see two of the very best Mowtown groups singing together ...Luv it

  • Kthis is a must seen

  • Levi Stubbs was the best looking man on that stage and there was a lot of fine men on that stage

  • The four tops sang happy birthday to me at a motown weekend when I was 21, I was in the toilette so I missed it. Doh..

  • terrific!!

  • all I can say is Thanks be 2 god AND YouTube that there is STILL fotage of these amazing groups! It is a shame, the face of "music" these days. because this is what reak music IS..

Sure I like a lot of "modern" music, but half of what you have herd in the last 10 years will be long gone and forgotten but these men here will never be for gotten.

Not MY eara per say but my big sisters era and I remember her music over a lot of mine THANK YOU for posting this!

  • Where is Jackie Wilson? =)

  • I'd give one of my balls to be at this show... This is what music is about. Hardly any good music is produced these days.

  • CAN'T HELP MYSELF!.....When Levi tells you to sing, you sing!

  • also i am from uk

  • i love it...why can't it be like this anymore??

  • Sorry sliced bread, but this, this is far better.

  • sad,wonderful time gone bye

  • LOVE IT!

  • This and the blues is the legency of the African Americans. Just love it so much!

  • I was still in my teens when this show was first aired on TV

  • @jfilesbooks

When this show was first aired on TV, I was 6 years old. However, Phoenix, Az had their first Women's Expo. and the remaining members of the Four Tops were there. I got their autographs but I was told it's not worth as much without all the original people. Still, they were the most popular act their....the Elvis impersonator was very jealous.

  • Lol get on out de way

  • hihi tell me your fantasies, spare no details and let's have a good time

  • i remember the Great songs thanks guys

  • Motown Returns to the Apollo was Great!!! I remember recording the show as a child and have watched it many times since then......Each time is just as special as the first, but sadly anymore it becomes more of a memoriam, because so many of the artist from that night have gone on.

Thank God for youtube because this was never released on DVD otherwise it would have just become another awesome show lost to time.

  • @jazzyalex2011

I did find it on cd

  • I can't post the link so just google Motown returns to the Apollo.

  • Step up has got nothing on this.

  • I'll bet God was sitting in the front row that night!

  • i hope they are all millionaires, because no one in music today has that kind of talent, not even close. awesome.

  • Only the lead singers had mics, how did the rest of the members sing and be heard

  • Just Beautiful...I love all Of Them!!!!

  • this is real beautiful to see these groups together and groovin to each other's music

  • That was Richard Street singing higher and higher Ali-Ollie Woodson sang all the songs until that point in the video.

  • Street was the lead singer of the Tempts the time. Their lineup changed through the years and yes he was the lead on this fantistic post. On thelast song higher and higher he was not the lead and I cant remember who is singing the last song.

  • i still have the whole show on vhs. thanks for posting it here.

  • Who is the Temptation lead singing higher and higher?

  • @Andy62337 I think it's Richard Street... but i'm not certain

  • West Side Story set in Motown?

  • Wow the love out there was beautiful to see, real old time singers/greats doing there thing in a beautiful enjoying way!!

  • REAL BATTLES IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS!!!

  • 5:24- "Shut up, Melvin." Love the banter between these guys.

  • how much now would we have to pay to this for this show

  • While I was watching this the biggest grin spread across my face. I love this.

  • Levi, you were my best friend for many, many years. Thank you for loving me! You have sang many times to me. We've danced, sang, lived and dreamed together. You where a wonderful friend. I miss you so very much. I listen to your music more as the years go by. I will see you soon! Cheech

  • These guys are great and happy and having fun,,They don't have to be like a bad rapper who never smiles,,,Coz they are BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!People should learn that music hits the heart...................Great moments and great groups,,LOve and Peace................

  • David ruffin was hands down the best temp

  • Sorry my vote goes to the Earl Spedo & The Cadillacs

  • levi had a great voice even in his 50s

  • Fine chocolate brothers - with smooth voices that would melt butter. You won't hear this style of music anymore. Shame.... Shame.... Shame.......

  • the good ole days never left...once an adult and twice a child...it will return

  • the four tops win it hands down against these temps coz these temps are not the originals the tops are

  • this is proper dance music

  • The Four Tops won this one !!

  • man i wish i lived in those days to see them ! :)

  • I can't stop smiling

  • My dad saw this! I am 16 and i love this to!

  • someone can tell me what song is in 3:25 ?

  • @ticinha110891 Under the Boardwalk

  • @ticinha110891 the song title is "Under the Boardwalk" and was a very big hit back in the day....still sounds good today!!

  • great proformance

  • I am attending the Temptations and Four Tops concert end of August...I can't wait this video is getting me excited.

  • Man the temps with only Melvin and Otis were kinda weak.... still a great group though

  • I love how each group has their own signature dance moves! The only real thing that put the temptaions ahead of everyone is the great bass vocals!!!

  • @joe2000efcfootball, I don't know. I like the Temps, but they've changed up the lineup a lot. The Tops had all four of their members until the end. But they're both still good.

  • i think the temptations were better than the four tops

  • This is "Downtown Brown Sound" at it's finest. Music will never be the same.

  • Comment removed

  • real dark/brown skin black man=real black music!

  • Why didn't we stay tuned for Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, and Patti LaBelle?

  • The first few groups weren't even on the Motown label lol

  • nejnej00

The song at 1:45 is The Cadillacs - Speedo (1956)

The song at 5:15 is The Four Tops - Something About You

The song at 8:20 is Higher And Higher (Usually associated with Jackie Wilson)

  • @MrAlpi7 Thanks.

  • Four Tops were the best but I love the all!

  • Name of the song at 8:20 ? Sorry for many comments.

  • Comment removed

  • Name of the song at 5:15 ? And whats the song the temptetions sing when they come out?

  • @nejnej00 Was it 'Superstar'?

  • Name of the song that guy is singin at 1:45 ?

  • Comment removed

  • Simply the best music

  • THIS IS EPIC

  • I love all these groups, I was from Philly and the Black radio stations were the best in the late 50 and 60 to listen to.

I'm glad I was born in this era!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ali, Richard,& Damon were able substitutes, not replacements , for Eddie,David and Paul. Eddie and David never had separate Tempts knockoffs, but they recorded and appeared together. Dennis had and has a separate Tempts group. All members toured together briefly in the early 80's. Otis was lead on 'Don't Send Me Away' and "This Guy's in Love With You' and should make no apology for being a great bckgd vocalist and the group's consistent thread and anchor. Peace 2 all, and Bless ALL the Tempts.

  • they needed david ruffin

  • @rj689 they had what they needed Ali Ollie Woodson

  • That lead singer for the Manhattans can sing wow unreal how they never got to be bigger than they did.

  • 25 People are stupid for not liking this video.

  • Omg... I love the Temptations i think they are the best singing group ever.<3

  • @georgerestivo by that time Kendricks, Edwards, and Ruffin had their own version of the temptations so more than likely they wouldnt be there...and Melvin was not his lackie because both made a promise to stay members and Melvin did sing lead parts in a lot of Temptation song unlike Otis. Not saying Otis was worthless but somebody got to be background

  • 24 people dont know real music at all

  • I have been brought up listening to Motown and i'm 28 now and still love it, my daughter is 3 months old and I listen to Motown around her all the time and will continue to do so as she grows up x

  • The tops were there but without Ruffin Kendricks and Edwards that is NOT the Temptations you have 2 originals and Otis never sang lead on any temp recording and Melvin was his lackie

  • Why do you think they called David Ruffin the voice one of the best soul singers that ever lived

  • Many will disagree but I believe Levi Stubbs to have been Motown's greatest talent.

  • Nine minutes and nine seconds of unadulterated joy here. I just smiled through the whole thing. This was beautiful and many thanks for posting man!

  • *sigh*......this was so great. Better than anything I've seen in 20 years.

  • there was more talent in that room, that night, than the subsequent quarter of a century :O)

  • just noticed that 23 people disliked this video, [/confused]

  • I know I have already commented on this video but I come back to watch this at least twice a week.. I can never get tired of this. REAL MUSIC NEVER DIES. I feel sorry for this generation because this type of music they will never get with these artist now.

  • @iloveaircraftforever agree with you friend!!! Peace.

  • this was real music what happend to the good olddays

  • Oh Man Why Couldnt I Be There This Is Awesome

  • Look; I liked all of the groups that were on this stage, but NONE of them, can touch the Four Tops, and the lead of Levi Stubbs!
