There are other differences between them than just the thumbwheel cheek piece. Since the stocks are "made to order", thumbwheels are not limited to just A-4's. You can have them put one on the A-5. Check out their website and look under "stock options".
It's about 1.5lbs. I just ordered the A-5. I can't wait but I'm going to have to... for about 5 months. I tried several other sites but couldn't find a McMillan w/thumbwheel cheekpiece.
I'm looking to buy a Mcmillan Stock for this gun. Anyone know a good place to buy them?...And would anyone be interested in purchasing the Ultimate Sniper stock shown in the video?
Im thinkin about gettin one of those. what are teh groups like at 100 yds? (with sandbags and rest and the whole bit. just for pure gun accuracy). And another question- how much is 1 MOA compared to 1 inch. always confused me.
@100 yards.....Pure accuracy will put 5 cold bore shots in a hole the size of a nickle and I'm not joking. Many can do better than that with the same rifle I'm sure as I'm no marksman.........1 MOA @100 yards is about 1.05 inches. As the yards double so does the MOA (1 MOA @200 yards will be 2.1 inches and so forth). It's just easier to think of it as 1 inch @100 yards, 2 inches @200 yards....you get the idea.
thats pretty impressive for the realtively short 22 inch barrell.. I suppose you get waht you pay for, i mean my dads Remmy 700 puts 3 through a dime.. if you try hard enough. but that gun is a nice $800, on a good day. Ill go for the savage, as it looks.. really good.
I won't get into the "savage vs Rem" debate cause I don't care one way or the other, but I've heard the Savages are on par or out shooting the Remingtons righrt now. I was at a gun show and jokingly made a comment to a Remmy only dealer("Precision Guns" or something like that). I said "how can you call them "Precision" when you don't sell Savages?". He laughed and said that seriously, right now the Savages are out shooting the Remmies, and he usually carries Savage but he was out.
I honestly don't have an opinion as to which one is better, but like you and everyone else, I think the savage IS the best for the money. I just thought it was funny hearing that from a dealer who only had Rem 700's for sell. I'll say, though, that the 700's seem more.....refined? I think that's how I'd describe it. The stock and everything else just seems to feel better. But I'm no gunsmith either!
You will get much better accuracy if you let the thumbwheel on the butt of the stock make contact with your benchrest. You may have to take the bipod off and just sandbag the notch behind the bipod ramp on that Choate. I get half MOA everytime with my savage/Choate combo.
I took the useless thumbwheel off. It's cheap. I usually use a sandbag to steady my shots, but I wanted to see what kind of group I would get like this. I was just within 1MOA. I can easily get less than 1/2 moa with this rifle and a sandbag!
I only look like a noob cause I am one.....at least when it comes to shooting this gun. I've shot AR-15's AK's and handguns all my life, but I will work on it. Thanks.
how is that choate stock working out for you?i am now planing on getting a savage rifle and i want to get that same stock.what is the overrall lenght?can you make a review video of the stock?
Sorry, I'd wish I could post a review, unfortunately I don't have enough experience to formulate an opinion. I can say it's a little bulky, and heavy, but other than that it works ok. The reviews I've read elswhere on the internet seem to do it justice.
I have the exact same stock on the exact same gun and it is awesome. A few strong points of the stock include an adjustable thumbwheel on the butt for elevation; completely freefloated barrel, action is pillar bedded, adj. ramp for the bipod and the recoil is neglible due to the weight of the stock. You wont be disappointed.
I hate this stock. I had one for my 10fp after 15 rounds I put the old one back one and sold it the stock

If you keep your cheek welded to the comb, you can get a whole lot faster shots, and you maintain your sight picture pretty much...

i just got a savage model 10 in 308 and was wondering how to convert it into a tactical heavy barrel rifle like yours?
Do i need to get a net stock to accomadate the heavy barrel?
jcpballer 3 years ago
the savage 10 with heavy barrel is a separate police model available to civilians.. i have the same model but a 20" barrel instead of a 26" barrel.

Is that an aftermarket Choate? I'm quite sure McMillian dosn't produce a druganov style internal pistol grip. or at least for savages.
being a lefty makes you a little picky about your savages. hehe

Yeah, its the choate Ultimate Sniper Stock for Savage Short Action.
How do you like the stock by the way? Is there enough room for the barrel to float?

Nope. I Really wish it did. I didn't know they had that option when I bought this a year ago.
