I hit 60 faster than you, I have the 96 model with the 4.0 i6 but I do have a new transmission which is slightly modded to put more power to the wheels. If you shift it manually with overdrive off you should drop at least a sec maybe 2. Mine hits 60 in 2nd @ 5,000 rpm and is faster than some v8's. Give it a try and let me know.
@fishaholic2012 haha yeah, i've been messing around with manually shifting it. I figured that out too not too long ago...that if you manually shift a little before the redline the tranny or computer is a little slow in responding so it goes a little past redline. But either way the i6 hates the high revs and its terrible for the tranny so its best to use it sparingly.
@drippinblood28 Yes! That's very true, it has very long piston rods that are designed to give you excellent torque at low rpm's but don't do too well when revved up high. I also stopped doing that because I need my jeep to last me 4 years through college and tow my 4,000 lb boat lol, you'd be surprised at how long the i6 can last. It's the most bullet proof engine jeep has made and I've seen some go to 600,000k miles. I hope to hold onto mine for a long time.
@fishaholic2012 BTW if you ever need a transmission rebuild, go to this place called level 10, they make the world's strongest rebuilds and you can't get a stronger transmission than these people make. You can even drop your trans, ship it to them, tell the guy Pat who runs the business and owns it how you use the trans and he will literally build the transmission to your specs with the best stuff he has and ship it back. Website is levelten(dot)com, youtube doesn't allow websites in comments
@fishaholic2012 Ehhh, there's that myth that it's bullet proof. It's decent, but it has it's problems and I blew a headgasket at 90k after it overheated just slightly due to failure of the water pump...very expensive, but it's been good so far. Just put in a new air filter so it's probly a little faster now hahah
@drippinblood28 Yeah well that's one of the weak points of the engine is that it's water pump goes every 70-100k miles, it has a weak bearing in the middle which causes it to go and overheating will ruin the head gasket on any engine. So far the water pump has been replaced twice on mine in the past 200k miles but other then that I've had no engine issues...just trans problems most likely from towing my boat and the other boats in the family.
@drippinblood28 I agree I never understood why ppl say say these are bull proof(worst engine I've hadof 3 cars)., May be able to run awhile without oil, but thats it, these motors will blow easier then most if reved hard and alot have some type of issue before 100k. Some may last 300k with no major issues but thats not the norm. the 3.7 is better imo
@watso64 They're almost bullet proof if driven with care. I'm 17 and I rip the beast apart every single day. Most of them will last around 200k if not revved up high and raced. The 3.7 is shit, but the new 3.6 has a promising amount of power, fuel economy, and reliability. I have faith in the new pentastar v6.
@drippinblood28 I'd say the 4.0 is shit, In terms of power and refinement yeah the 3.7 is poor, however its more reliable then my dad use to work at a Jeep dealership seen alot more 4.0s(99-02) come in with engine troubles then 3.7's my 01 had noisy lifters around 87k and blown head gasket around 90k. and my neighbors 00 is even noiser. Dad never seen a 3.7 with noisy lifters or blown heads.
@watso64 maybe its the fact that all 3.7's that come in are "newer" by about 5 years. Also, yes the 3.7 is slightly better, but compared to other engines in its year, its terrible and is hardly an improvement over the 4.0
your 4.0 builds speed much faster than mine, I'm confused. My engine is babied, running Mobil 1 oil, spotless and perfect condition, nice clean air filter. Whats the trick?
@CompCrasher86 well it used to be my parents and they literally probably never took it past 3k rpms until like 85k so it got broken in really nice and slowly. I also took out the spare and some other junk which reduced weight by around 100 pounds
My Jeeps Herby man it just keeps going a car switched lanes so we had to slow down. I don't know why your saying it won't go over 130 when im telling you it did its completely stock with no limiter we've just played around with the stock parts its loud as shit too, and like I said grand cherokees are gay. and just because its a 4.0 doesn't mean shit about how fast it will go silly dumb boy.
@kweenofthekrop420 no 4.0 will go 130 dumbass. You must be a silly dumb boy. Let's see one of your videos. You sound like a middle schooler. I bet you don't even have a license
@drippinblood28 There was a 4.0 HO XJ on World's Wildest Police Chases.... They said at one point they hit over 130 mph ! I was like holy tit shit fuck, I didn't know they could go that fast.... But hey it's whatever
oh and wranglers are for for pussys thats why they're slow they dont have that get up and go unless you do the 350 swap or used for rock crawling. grand cherokees are kinda grandma cars as far as jeeps go though even though it has a v8 i wanna srt8 engine swap
fuck all these people they're haters alls this dude is trying to do is show you people damn stock jeeps are fuckin fast for tanks. I believe you i havent done a 10 sec run in my 96 jeep cherokee 4.0 but i know it will beat 10 sec. maybe even your 8 but i know it has a top speed of over 130mph for fact (my gps doesnt lie) i think itll top out at 140 - 150 havent gone farther it was intense(felt like it would go on forever) and mines completely stock just freed up the intake and exhaust.
@kweenofthekrop420 The 4.0 will definitely not hit above 130 mph. I've hit 116 mph with the limiter on my jeep when it was completely stock and I think it might be able to do something like a little under 130 tops. The jeep srt8 is super sick though!
@uknowdennis 225's are the stock size for the 1999 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 liter inline 6, so its not like the speedo is off. They are 225/75 R16 tires.
This POS couldn't hang with my truck..... sad, just sad that you have to go onto other peoples vids and dislike them, you sure shit talk a lot for someone that hasn't paid a penny for their vehicle
@Britewhiteram Dude, relax, I just liked it one second ago just to prove it to you. CHeck the time stamp if you're that concerned. You don't have to be so offended, we're just talking about some videos and cars. I believe you about your truck, it just seemed to fast. So chill
@1quickI6 Trust me its in the low sevens with a launch because I have gotten those down now. I'm trying to prove that it can easily do 8 seconds from a dead stop with no mods, but most people never believe me so i had to show the road, the engine, and all the other things to put people's doubts to an end. Also, if you care to know, I've pushed the thing up to 116 mph on the freeway completely stock (the governor wasn't removed). I'll post back with the tire size soon!
i wasn't going to comment, but what exactly are you trying to prove here? that your automatic SUV can break 10 seconds? my roommate has a 4.0ho cherokee in a stick, and i'll admit it's torquey, but i wouldn't quite say 'shit, that's fast!' also, what size tires are you running? they can throw off your speedo sender and make you 'look' faster.
Ok well I watched it several times... you floor it at 2:36 and it cross 60 between 2:44-2:45 so Im guessing with right performance testing equipment it probably got around 8.5 secs. I haven't driven this generation GC but I have driven a wrangler with the same 4.0L engine and those feel soo slow... Aren't those wranglers lighter than yours? Bc if they are how is this GC quicker?
BTW lol at the 4500 rpm shifts :P It still short shifted way before the 5200 redline.
@xoquixxoqafxo yeah, i didn't quite it floor it as quickly as i have before because I was looking at the camera screen to make sure the screen was on the dash the whole time and not bumpy so I tried to be a little safer. As for the wranglers, yeah they are much lighter (3900 pounds vs. 3300 pounds). For some reason, I've just always felt that this car was always a bit faster than it shoulda been...probly cuz my dad took good care of it all the time.
@xoquixxoqafxo Wow, ok now that I've really broken in the engine it is a bit more faster. Before my parents drove it like little grannies and never went past 3k rpm i bet. Its really faster now, especially that I've got my launch down now. I could be looking at sub 7 second times or low 7s.
I hit 60 faster than you, I have the 96 model with the 4.0 i6 but I do have a new transmission which is slightly modded to put more power to the wheels.
