I think, he just doesn't want anyone to really know about him, lol. Think about it, in one interview he says he LOVES travelling, and in this one, HATES it. He does opposites like that in his interviews all the time.
Very, very clever, Robert....keep us guessing.......
I never would have guessed that he was anti-social or very reserved in life....Even with that, he is so cool and not everyone needs to be out there and about acting or doing crazy things.
More like he was not politically correct with her. Why would he? She was being so obviously sarcastic, and at the end when she said "...fun interview today", he gave a perfect closure by saying "well isn't that nice?, and I did nothing to salvage it whatsoever".
I think they didn't like each other from the get go, she's all the time trying to be cool, and superior once she saw he would not be playing along, which was a huge mistake, as the only thing he did was close off to whatever attempt she made at having the upper hand in the interview. She's not that much of a seasoned interviewer. "I don't care that much" and "I think you're the kind that hate people" sounded very snotty of her, and that kind of idiotic comments are not the best openers.
Some people seem to consider him a cold person, almost conveying impoliteness... I think he's a very refreshing person in the Hollywood world of "please love me", fake laughters and feigned smiles and "oh god - how adorable am I on a scale from 1 to 10?". His sense of humour made me laugh throughout the interview. He seems rather a pessimist, looking at the world with a clear eye (I can really see why he and Hugh are friends). He isn't smug. Ok, he appears somewhat off in this interview.
why does the interviewer sound like a complete idiot? she refuses to laugh. Is she incapable of understanding that jokes dont need to be knock knock or something? i don't know. I find his sarcasm and wit extremely entertaining
This interviewer is pretty crap...Robert makes up for it though. I loved the movie Dead poets Society, I feel I've learned a lot from it. Just thought I'd mention that.
This is exactly why Robert & Hugh are good friends and have great chemistry. Robert has a very British sense of humor- dry, sarcastic, and witty. It's just that Robert is more blunt with it in interviews than Hugh. Hugh is incredibly polite and gets very guilty when he says something that comes off insensitive. They also both have a very pessimistic and skeptical attitude toward all the Hollywood nonsense, and life in general. I'm sure when they are together they have a wonderful time.
couldn't agree more...actually i think i would have written that if you didn't=]
and it's completely true that Hugh is incredibly polite in interviews and that probably he has the same sense of humor as Robert wich i LOVE by the way really witty and sarcastic but this attitude the pessimistic and skeptical attitude i mean-i think-becomes really obvious in the magazine interviews(a written interviews) especially the British one i don't know why but it does...
@itsaclassic "Hugh is incredibly polite and gets very guilty when he says something that comes off insensitive" - Now, that's why Stephen & Hugh are good friends:)
I really like the fact that he didn't enjoy the movie Good Will Hunting. I didn't enjoy that movie either. I can't believe the interviewer didn't do enough reasearch before the interview to know he wasn't in it.
I completely understand why Hugh likes him so much.
Robert (from what I can tell) has an extremely British sensibility, somehow I think that kind of wit wouldn't go down well with people in hollywood, and with people who could further his career. There just isn't enough enthusiasm and upbeatness.
He is hilarious! I don't think she really understood his humour in this interview. He is totally funny! It's almost that British humour all dry and sarcastic and totally serious when its delivered. He is fantastic! I love it!
Wow. I want to smack this woman with a tarantula. At 1:42, he blinks in this really subtle way that looks amazingly like a repressed eye roll. Poor Robert!
Who calls a fantastically talented actor sitting across from them "lazy" because they don't do stand-up? Does his dry wit strike anyone as stand-up? Oy.
RSL laughs at alot of stuff but I think he was annoyed by the lady that was there and he said he loved traveling and had wanted to go to India. He is so HOT !!!!!!!
The fact that the interviewer thought RSL was in Good Will Hunting proves how little she has prepared for this interview, ergo, I would say she is an amateurish interviewer.
Good thing RSL said "Don't have to shriek at me". He's adorable!
Yeah, the interviewer does seem a little fluffy-brained....and I don't get why she asks if he's ever been to Seattle...seems like a randon question, unless this interview takes place in Seattle.
I love how Wilson is friendly and sweet in the show, while RSL is more sarcastic and dry in real life.
And House is sarcastic and dry in the show, while Hugh Laurie is friendly and sweet in real life. Opposites!
I think it's sad that some House fans don't seem to understand RSL's dry sense of humor, so they just assume RSL is cold or a jackass... and yet they love the character of House BECAUSE he is cold and a jackass. Contradictory, much?
? y duz she ask randomly, have u been to seattle? i rly dnt like this interviewer. not trying to be offensive, but she's not tht great at this... she's not tht smart... at all. no offense. but i love rsl! he is so awesome! i would LOVE for him to be back on broadway. I wanna' see him!!! lol. duz anyone hav his mailin address???
I have problems with keeping in mind the filmography of actors; also the filmography of my favourite actors, although I saw all or nearly all films already.
But even I know, that Robert never played in Good Will Hunting.
And I am not reporter-bitch. Yeah, that's just embarassing.
I think Robert Sean Leonard's intellect far surpasses this bimbo. She sees things black and white with a jejune naivete. Robert Sean Leonard was toying with her wits all throughout, parodying her pathetic questions. Perhaps they should hire a more discerning interviewer.
"Oh isn't that nice when I do nothing to sell the show whatsoever."
He is so funny, and a really good actor. Did anyone see him in Much Ado About Nothing?
LOVE that movie.
The girl interviewing him is a bit uhhh flustered sounding? I'm trying to be nice here. She had like nothing to ask him. Maybe because he kinda shut her down a couple times, lol, but she sounded a little like an idiot.
Man, I really like him and his work, but in this interview he just sounds so glib in an unredeeming way. Kinda depressed, maybe, lacking passion for anything. Some of the things he said could have been funny, or could have lead into something funny, but he never really put out the effort to take it there, almost as if this interview was a bit of a chore for him. Or maybe he was just tired that day. Anyway, thanks for posting this.
aww, robert sean leonard sounds really funny (not at all in a bad way) in this. he sounds extremely tired. oh, does anyone know his mailing address??? i already sent something to hugh laurie. i want to meet him!!! i hope he does broadway again!!! :)
I don't know. RSL is just great. He is the way he is and it's great. Anyway, why should he answer some stupid questions like "what makes you laugh". Maybe really nothing. He speaks the truth and that deserves more respect than just prepared answers. Try to tell the truth it's way more difficult cause people usually lie a little bit to look more interesting. He's kinda not afraid of people saying "he's boring" or something. It's an interview and why should he act? :)
It's a weird interview. He is always sarcastic and brutally frank, and you never know what going to comes out from his mouth. But he's nice, you can like him. It's not a good interview, this creepy woman just freak him out. The "shriek", "what makes you laugh" and the "good will hunting" things were pretty bullshit. I think if you watch other interviews with him you will like him more.
Nah he doesn't lie in his other interviews and has always been honest, a trait of his, but this interview was just ..different from the start. The lady was obviously a very different person to him but I dont think he was rude or anything. They just didn't click and it was very much a one way convo. Shame.
However, the Good WIll Hunting comment; COME ON! Stupid, stupid, stupid and the woman was obnoxious, esp the you strike me as someone who hates people?! I mean, she is supposed to be a professional and he was way more professional than her. Without jumping to his defence here but thats what I got from this.
Oh yeah, maybe it was just a bad day for him. But I saw him so much other interviews. He's always so funny, adorable awkward and honest. That's why I think this interviewer is crappy. Maybe she was too nice, too genial and too uproarious. I think that's why RSL was so weird and dismissing. We all know, he's a little bit dorky, but so worshipful and loveable.
I see you guys complaining about the interviewer, I don't know what fault you see in her, but she seemed fine to me. It's RLS that, unfortunatly killed it. He just seemed to be in an awful mood - maybe it was just a bad day or maybe that's how he always is. I sure hope not. He came off as a jerk here. :( And I DON'T see ANY of that being the interviewers fault, she seemed perfectly nice and willing to engage in interesting conversation. He just wasn't giving her anything to work with.
As someone who is training to be a journalist I find this interviewer to be less than satisfactory, an interviewers role is to get the interviewee to open up, if one line of questioning isn't working you try another. This interviewer seems to be unable to get RSL to open up at all.
Man poor Robert he looks like he was undergoing living hell during the interview. He's obviously a very private and reserved person who doesn't really like to talk about himself much. Shame but I think thats what makes him such a likable person.
He looks like he was thinking about something else xD or just that it wasn't his best day. In the House unplugged thing and others he seems more... dunno, different xD.
Yeah, actually in there he says he's travelled a lot, he said he liked Tokyo and would like to go to India. In this interview he seemed a little out of it. Weirr, just weird. o.O? (Still love him though)
And I don't understand the same thing. Here he says he hates travelling, but in an other interview he told he liked those jobs where he could travel new places. So in this interview he was pretty dismissive, which is still the part of his personality. Maybe he found the interviewer a creep, tried to be polite but got negative.
God, he's wierd, so strange. I think he's a little bit misantrophic...but very intelligent, and incredibly talented actor. He's an ACTOR. I like him. And you're right, the interviewer is crappy.
i love rsl but i felt that the interviewer was not prepared and just not the right person to interview him...maybe she is added to the list of people he hates
there are two things I love about this interview. first is that it was able to convince me that when robert steps out into the full moon that he becomes a giant tarantula, and second this:
Lady: what makes you laugh?
Robert: *blank stare*
...lol.
but yea someone said that around 3:00 he started looking kinda pissed...yea it kinda got boring after the tarantula part.
I'm not quite sure what time it's at in the video. He talks about how his whole family dislikes traveling and he then says that tarantulas never travel far from where they are born and so he compares his family to tarantulas. I don't know if that helps you better understand it or not, but I hope it does. :)
Poor guy. He always gets the crappy interviewers, and it's probably why he's so awkward. He actually started looking pissed around 3:00. He's a talented actor, and doesn't deserve crap like that. I've never seen anyone look so uncomfortable.
Again, an interview gone to waste with this guy, and yet his composure is so great. If there is one decent interviewer left in the world, can s/he get a hold of him and ask a few questions that aren't pathetically ignorant?
He's too good of an actor to have to deal with this crap.
:3 I love him so much, he's so funny and so darn cute! He's so... just like... normal I guess. But this girl has no idea what she's talking about... I mean damn...
Ii like the fact that RSL isn't the classic tv star personality; this interview seems very honest. He's a little odd, but in an endearing way. It's evident that playing Wilson is no stretch from his own personality.
I understand why we don't see him promoting the show very often, he obviously doesn't like that. The interview is weird but I like how he didn't play the game.
He's witty, but lazy...no just lazy!!! LOL Robert Sean Leonard (I <3 His name btw) is HILARIOUS AND I THINK HE IS ONE OF THE KEY ELEMENTS THAT MAKES HOUSE SUCH A GREAT SHOW!!! I LOVE YOU RSL!!!
But on the other hand, RSL - sweet as he may seem on the show - seems to be quite unfrienldy and boring in real life. Actually, he seems to be more miserable than House and almost as neurotic as Monk!
I can't believe she ask him "What makes you laugh" OTL what kind of idiot question.. and she really had to do some search BEFORE she interview him.. I mean, this is RSL, he read a lot of books! stupid interviewer..
He is perfect, omg.

GusGruber 3 years ago 4
He looks like he was thinking about something else xD or just that it wasn't his best day. In the House unplugged thing and others he seems more... dunno, different xD.
EvaSalvi 3 years ago
Yeah, actually in there he says he's travelled a lot, he said he liked Tokyo and would like to go to India. In this interview he seemed a little out of it. Weirr, just weird. o.O? (Still love him though)
Narkito 3 years ago
And I don't understand the same thing. Here he says he hates travelling, but in an other interview he told he liked those jobs where he could travel new places. So in this interview he was pretty dismissive, which is still the part of his personality. Maybe he found the interviewer a creep, tried to be polite but got negative.

i'm still laughing

God, he's wierd, so strange. I think he's a little bit misantrophic...but very intelligent, and incredibly talented actor. He's an ACTOR. I like him. And you're right, the interviewer is crappy.
ClarissaDalllo 3 years ago 6
i love rsl but i felt that the interviewer was not prepared and just not the right person to interview him...maybe she is added to the list of people he hates
jgriffin126 3 years ago 2
He's adorable. It seems he's a bit swivel-eyed, but still sexy.
Vadamur 3 years ago 7
lol
there are two things I love about this interview. first is that it was able to convince me that when robert steps out into the full moon that he becomes a giant tarantula, and second this:
Lady: what makes you laugh?
Robert: *blank stare*
...lol.
but yea someone said that around 3:00 he started looking kinda pissed...yea it kinda got boring after the tarantula part.
LupinWolfy 3 years ago 5
Oh I'm sorry but please tell me where that ominous tarantula part... I simply can't find it, because I'm not English...
Vadamur 3 years ago
I'm not quite sure what time it's at in the video. He talks about how his whole family dislikes traveling and he then says that tarantulas never travel far from where they are born and so he compares his family to tarantulas. I don't know if that helps you better understand it or not, but I hope it does. :)

Poor guy. He always gets the crappy interviewers, and it's probably why he's so awkward. He actually started looking pissed around 3:00. He's a talented actor, and doesn't deserve crap like that. I've never seen anyone look so uncomfortable.
Tequesta1989 4 years ago 5
Lol he's so...awkward.

I LOVE THIS MAN.
Why is the interviewer SUCH a dolt?
And can someone please give him a decent interviewer for once?
geekygirl522 4 years ago 6
Again, an interview gone to waste with this guy, and yet his composure is so great. If there is one decent interviewer left in the world, can s/he get a hold of him and ask a few questions that aren't pathetically ignorant?
He's too good of an actor to have to deal with this crap.

He is adorable :) I want to hug him :P

This interview makes me realize so many similarities between him and Hugh Laurie. Perhaps that's why they are good friends.
bemoreunique 4 years ago 2
*giggles uncontrollably* I'm not surprised the man's almost averse to interviews if this is the standard of journalism he's subjected to!

I didn't care for Good Will Hunting either.

Ii like the fact that RSL isn't the classic tv star personality; this interview seems very honest. He's a little odd, but in an endearing way. It's evident that playing Wilson is no stretch from his own personality.
freethinker8724 4 years ago 3
I understand why we don't see him promoting the show very often, he obviously doesn't like that. The interview is weird but I like how he didn't play the game.

What kind of strange interviewer is that? Robert in "Good Will Hunting"? Hello?
cinefreak76 4 years ago 3
he is a total nerd/geek. hot nerd! lol.
darksnow07 4 years ago 6
Its so weird...I get the impression he doesn't act very much when he plays Wilson in House. Its practically the same personality.
subaruandseishiro 4 years ago 6
I think that's the reason why they choose him to play wilson... ;)
love him ♥

He's witty, but lazy...no just lazy!!! LOL Robert Sean Leonard (I <3 His name btw) is HILARIOUS AND I THINK HE IS ONE OF THE KEY ELEMENTS THAT MAKES HOUSE SUCH A GREAT SHOW!!! I LOVE YOU RSL!!!

It's so hard to get his face out of that "Dead poets society" movie and straight into house. ;-) This interview is kinda funny.

This adorable adorable RSL is so boring in real life. It's ridiculous how lazy he is. LOL.

Love his face at 4:43
He's kind of weird..
but he's cute ^^
irene85fxn 4 years ago 3
What a stupid interviewer! Clearly the wrong job.
But on the other hand, RSL - sweet as he may seem on the show - seems to be quite unfrienldy and boring in real life. Actually, he seems to be more miserable than House and almost as neurotic as Monk!
tineblondine 4 years ago 3
I agree, that girl don't know what she should ask. XD
on the other hand, well this guy is not unfriendly, yet, he's weired, you had to know him very well then to like him, so well. XD
cindy19912003 4 years ago 3
I love him! He seems like he would be difficult to interview though, but the interviewer here is a complete idiot.
I can't believe she asked him if he was in Good Will Hunting.
DizzySteps2U 4 years ago 5
I can't believe she ask him "What makes you laugh" OTL what kind of idiot question.. and she really had to do some search BEFORE she interview him.. I mean, this is RSL, he read a lot of books! stupid interviewer..
