I found my way here after learning the Black keys covered "I'm Glad" So I came in with an open mind to listen to some Bee Fart songs. I am sorry to say that I just can't get into it. The music is really good, but I can't get past his voice. I guess copious amounts of LSD would help.
yeah, that'll help. but I think you should just listen to it some more. I needed to get used to his voice too when I discovered beefheart. and after a while I thought he has one of the greatest voices of all time, along with Tom Waits.
the whole Safe As Milk album is worth checking out, every singel songs of it. other favorite albums of mine: Mirror Man, Trout Mask Replica(bit hard to listen at first but it's great) and Bluejeans & Moonbeams. I don't have really favorite songs, just wole albums:P
My favourite song off the Safe As Milk albulm probably; true crazy blues

Yeah, but there's a bit of Blues structure to this early stuff, and you can understand
the lyrics, it's also a bit more melodical with a bit of a backbeat. He got weirder
and weirder, with more obtuse lyrics, and pretty disjointed rhythm and musical
style.

Merely expressing my opinion. Not being rude. You are the one taking it personally like I just stabbed your grandfather.

Captain Beefheart and Alan Wilson of Canned Heat were THE blues in the 60's,no one could even come close

I see the obvious harmonica similarity, but I don't feel like Midnight Rambler is in any way a rip off.

Hi I'm new to beefheart really, so I was wondering who is don? as mentioned by dylanfan and sparkyization? Cheers.
jodeciareamazing 2 years ago 2
Don Van Vliet is beefheart's real name. (check wikipedia)
123frizzlefry 2 years ago
Actually he was born Don "Glen" Vliet and then changed it later on.

The Captain is a master of the blues.

almost sounds like eric burdon! this is cool i've never heard these guys!

Don is better than any blues band from the 60s. Along with Alan Wilson from Canned Heat i don't know anyone who touched the blues like they did.

I like the harp in the song, done with a Sinei, just like songs as Mirrorman from the Mirror Man sessions! :D

What's a sinei? a type of mic?. I want to know how he got that classic tone.

To paraphrase a line from children's Cartoon record Captain Beaky:
the finest Animals in the Land..
were Captain Beefheart
and his Band
