  • They are wonderful, I wish I could go see them in person , This is pure Art, Elegance & Grace in motion.

    Thank you for sharing(o:

  • Thank you, all the movements were easy to understand and lovely to see!

  • mind blowing

  • Thank you so much for sharing this! Where was this filmed???

  • amasing! pure creativity

  • the styles of odissi is both of the gotipuas(danced by males and acrobatic in nature) and the mahari tradition danced by the devadasis in the temples before lord jaganath....they are obviously different.

  • i love the moovment of the dances and expreshions

  • Odissi that we see today is largely inspired by the Gotipua. Pre-puberty boys perform as female. When the Maharis wer banned, Gotipuas kept Odissi alive. The reconstructed Odissi is largely derived from the Gotipua tradition. Many Gurus who brought about the revival in the mid-50s are Gotipuas. The Gotipuas are also known for their bandha nrutyas - acrobatic poses in the video. This aspect is seldom explored in the contemporary form.

  • Thank you sunayanasarkar13, it is good to read a posting from someone who is in the know. When the British anti nautch movement tried to ban Indian Classical dance for being too lascivious, it was men who often dressed as women, performed, preserved and taught the traditions. Not only Odissi dancers but Kuchipudi dance as well. Indian Classical dance has arisen like the great Phoenix, with more students discovering their heritage thru the dance.

  • Sorry samirfouad1, this IS ODISSI, in EVERY sense of the word.

  • I wish samir who seems to be so gifted in all dance forms, would upload some postings of his dance to show us all how it shouls be done. At present all I see are comments from an armchair perspective..I guess those who can, dance; those who can't, constantly critcise.

  • I agree with what you wrote Bellydanceshiva, I see a lot of posts by people who are not qualified to discuss the merits of Indian dance. Almost all of the classical dance forms have several different schools and variations and even different philosophies. Just because you are ignorant of the tradition of Gotipuas does not give you the right to say what they are doing is not Odissi dance.

  • You name this whatever and you can have it! It's not odissi in any sense of the word. Your guess is as good as mine.

    Too bad.

  • @samirfouad1 : What the hell is wrong with you? This is odissi, dude! Check your resources! I admit all the classical dances LOOK alike, but they're NOT the same. I'm an Odissi student, and no one would know better then me for sure.

  • @samirfouad1 Of course it is Odissi. Odissi has multiple forms, and Gotipua is one of them. You just do not happen to know it. In any case, definitions do not matter. It is a beautiful demonstration of the different styles within Odissi.

  • This is not odissi dance, but Gotipua dance, and those are young boys. This is an old tradition ofOrissa state.

  • omg! everyone in this video is so good hope i become dat good.

  • omg, did you see those little girls. they are more flexible than i.
