Bobby Rondinelli will always be known as the drummer who played with Blackmore, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult etc. Great drummers are innovators, there at the beginning of the inception of something, from nothing: its seminal, embryonic flutterings in a garage, basement, forgotten slimy dive on a magikal evening when The Gods Of Rock smiled upon them and the audience!
This was in 1982, this drumsolo is so cool and original, especially the part when Bobby launches his drumsticks upon de frontcymbals into the crowd...
i dont want to get in to the WHOS better thing but remember,THE man IN BLACK has taken many music lessons, traveled, much of his life, reads some music, done countless sessions that will never no,plays the cello, piano, drums, fingerpicking, flatpicking, song writing, knows some orchestration,i love what he does here there and every were.he throw his axe down.SOUNDS GOOD TO MEEEEEEEE
It is a shame Ritchie Blackmore has forsaken rock music to play medieval crap. Can he be any more Spinal Tap?Instead of opening for puppet shows he should be headlining Renaissance festivals and medieval theme restaurants. Blackmore's Night played a gig in Lakewood,NJ and demanded fans close to the stage wear medieval clothing.I wasn't about to piss away money on clothes I could only wear again on Halloween. How does a great guitar player fall so far? His mom and girlfriend screen his calls.
again, how can there be ANY thumbs down on this??? and AGAIN, to all those that gave it a thumbs down, who and where are you??? Do you REALLY think you could do half as good??? BRING IT!!!

And 20 years later Bobby Rondinelli was playing with Blue Oyster Cult. It'd be VERY interesting to hear him compare and contrast playing with TWO guitar gods, Ritchie Blackmore and Buck Dharma...

Try Rainbow Blues and Diamonds and Rust for starters.

Remember watching this in the late 80s with my brother admiring Ritchie playing guitar. A little bit older now and beginning to appreciate the GREAT drummers at the time.
I think John Bonham played with his hands before Tommy of Bobby R. Before that someone else did it. Probably Krupa or Chick Webb or someone like that. you guys are funny.
That's where Tommy Aldrich took the idea for his drum solo from!! Hitting the drums with bare hands and the double bass drum licks and rhythms... Rondinelli back then was ahead of his time. He is a great drummer!

I can add something to this; I was at that concert, it was Aug. 13th 1982, MTV was responsible for the crappy sound at this show because it was a live show they taped at the old convention center in san antonio, TX. My seat was right on the front row in front of Blackmore, but an MTV camera took my seat; After a few minutes, they took me backstage and I hung out with Ritchie and the band. I was tripping on the best Acid I ever took, and the band got stoned on my weed that night.....

just because you can play fast like malmsteen doesnt make you gifted, it just means you got locked into a room with a guitar for a few summers... doesnt say much about their taste
No. You misunderstand. I mean Malmsteen is more gifted technically. You CANNOT doubt that statement; but Blackmore is the original and best, no doubt. Malmsteen could TECHNICALLY play anything by Blackmore; Ritchie couldn't dream of playing Yngwie's stuff. My point was Ritchie is a better soloist- more feel, more sense of what is appropriate. He is the best.
Have you ever fucking heard the stuff Ritchie plays I have two dvds Rainbow in 77 and Deep Purple in 74 easily tops malmsteens speed and feel no doubt about it
A few of you mention Malmsteen- he is perhaps the most gifted electric guitarist I have ever seen or heard. BUT!!! He hasn't got a clue how to use his ability. Zero sense of what is appropriate. Ritchie B is a FAR better MUSICIAN. And he was running rings around Hendrix too in '69...

Blackmore not to more than noise in their solos, this is not music, music malmsteen ago and is talented, this naming blackmore as a god and was not more than one type without talent and good luck
Man , Rondinelli is the shit. His skills alongside his impeccable taste and phrasing makes him great. Just look at his live stuff with Sabbath , fucking amazing !!!
Can somebody please find Ritchie Blackmore and tell him to stop playing this ridiculous "Baroke" music, with his wife, and get RAINBOW back together...!!! Now that would be a tour for the ages...!!!
Blackmore not to more than noise in their solos, this is not music, music malmsteen ago and is talented, this naming blackmore as a god and was not more than one type without talent and good luck
If you really think Malmsteen is more talanted than Blackmore, you are waaaay of course. Blackmore is the man behind the worlds famous riffs such as Smoke on the Water, Strange Kind of Women, Highway Star, Child in Time and many more. He got the worlds most famous solos. Malmsteen is NOTHING. His only skill is that he plays arpeggio scales really fast. Malmsteen has admitted many times that he is just an imitator of Blackmore.
Aldridge is absolutely nothing compared to Bobby. Aldridge does the same thing all over again , no matter who he plays with. Look at Bobby's stuff these days, he has grown so much . I saw Aldridge in the small club 2 years ago , same shit.
This is a great video. Rondinelli is an awesome drummer, and Blackmore an underrated legend of a guitarist. But... people are people, and nobody's perfect. That's what makes us interesting.
Generally speaking, people rank Blackmore lower than Hendrix and Page, or even Malmsteem even though he's just as good (and Malmsteem copies him without admitting it).
Blackmore not to more than noise in their solos, this is not music, music malmsteen ago and is talented, this naming blackmore as a god and was not more than one type without talent and good luck
bobby is probably the best drummer blackmore or iommi has ever played with. not that he played on their best albums but just talking about his drumming
To me they are different guitarists. Blackmore can write songs, I don't even hear the same league of skill from Yngwie. Although, my guess is Yngwie's probably got far more speed than Ritchie. As far as drummers, I like Rondinelli, always did. But he still isn't even close to Cozy Powell.
i have noticed that in a recent view of Yngwie j. Malmsteen, he denies ritchie blackmore as one of his influences. I am not a guitarist but that is sad. Yngwie basically copied the shit out of ritchie. HE has played with many musicians who ritchie was associated with and his Fender very similat to Ritchie's.
Some people have not a clue what they're saying here. 1.Ritchie is one of the worlds best 2.Rondinelli is good but could not hold Cozy's sticks 3.What are you smoking?
blackmore is blackmore u can't mistake his playing with no one else goes for malmsteen they r really unique anyway on to the video by far the most entertaining drum solos i've seen well done
One of the many great things about Ritchie Blackmore's playing is that he not only can play the right things right, he also can make the wrong things right as well. This makes him an allround better entertainer. This is the sort of stuff that influenced Eddie Van Halen, a guy who also understands what unorthodox playing is about. Boring but talented guitarists like Steve Vai don't understand it.
This is hilarious. I loved Blackmore when I was growing up, still love his guitar playing but he's such a tosser. But as far as tossers go that drummer takes it from Blackmore totally. ha ha ha its worse than watching someone wank!
I love blackmore, and like lots of malmsteen stuff, not much his newest material. But Blackmore is a heavy influence in rocknroll for musicians, yngwie probably has wet dreams with him. I prefer malmsteen songs than solos, they are repetitive and i think too much minor harmonic classical stuff is just bad taste to abuse of and yngwie SUCKS playin blues. You can understand teenager guitarrist been fans of fat yngwie, but eventually if they mature as musicians, will leave himm behind.
Bobby R. is a great drummer!! I just don't understand how the **** anyone can say "Ritchie Blackmore is one of the greatest guitarists in the world" He's so damn overrated it's making me sick. Like this so called guitar-solo...it stinks, it's noisey, it smells cow-shit and all bad stuff you possibly can think of!!
You are wrong. And this isn't an actual guitar solo, it's just Blackmore doing some noisemaking. If you wanna hear actual Blackmore solos, listen to "Wring That Neck" from Powerhouse. If you still call him overrated after hearing that one, your ears are broken.
As far as I understand you really didn't listen Blackmore very much, as Yngtchie says this is just noisemaking here, no real guitar solo. People at 70's and 80's liked things like this at concerts, but this does not represent Blackmore...
Well, I've heard most of the classic D.P. songs and a load full of Rainbow stuff as well. Of course the ol' man can play his instrument (perhpas i was a lil too harsh in my previous post) but i.m.o he's still overrated as in being what many people claims "one of the greatest guitarists in the world" Sure he has done some cool riffs through out the years, I'll give him that....but solowise he's just plain boredom.
Thankfully Yngwie Malmsteen, just to name one of the worlds greatest, took whatever influences he could get out of the guy and made it more fun and exciting to listen to. Already as a teen, Yngwie did exceed Blackies skills in playing. Not only that he's faster...also perfect timing, a great sound and killer-riffs you could die for!! Anyway, this thread should be focused on Bobby Rondinelli so I'll shut down the guitar-yacking blabbering machine now :)
I'm sorry man, but Ritchie Blackmore is actually a very underrated guitarist! Seriously, even though many see him as the greatest guitarist of all time, he is less known than for instance Jimmy Page, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai and more guitarist. So I don't agree with you there mate!
Blackmore made very good money but you are right. He was overshadowed by Jimi Hendrix - they were really contemporaries. This is a great clip. Dave Rosenthal is a friend of mine. Check out Happy The Man!
ritchie is heavily under estimated in press but not under his colleages, most of them don' t want to say a bad word about him, because they now how good he is.
and yes you are sick, Blackmore is out of this world,
ask Yngwie, he will tell you who is the best guitar player of the seventies... Mr Blackmore

Kind of a tommy aldridge rip off
HarmonicMinorJ 4 years ago
Aldridge is absolutely nothing compared to Bobby. Aldridge does the same thing all over again , no matter who he plays with. Look at Bobby's stuff these days, he has grown so much . I saw Aldridge in the small club 2 years ago , same shit.

This is a great video. Rondinelli is an awesome drummer, and Blackmore an underrated legend of a guitarist. But... people are people, and nobody's perfect. That's what makes us interesting.

KinStrategy blackmore underate where? :)

Generally speaking, people rank Blackmore lower than Hendrix and Page, or even Malmsteem even though he's just as good (and Malmsteem copies him without admitting it).
KinStrategy 4 years ago 2
yeah he does but he has no style like blackmore i would have to say the worst guitar sound and the most boring show i have ever seen!

Famous people from Weston-Super-Mare: John Cleese, Jeffrey Archer, Ritchie Blackmore - what a town people, what a town!

best not mention Jeffrey Archer though eh! Now't to be proud of there!

damn the sound of rondinelli's drums suck....in particular toms..

i have noticed that in a recent view of Yngwie j. Malmsteen, he denies ritchie blackmore as one of his influences. I am not a guitarist but that is sad. Yngwie basically copied the shit out of ritchie. HE has played with many musicians who ritchie was associated with and his Fender very similat to Ritchie's.

Blackmore, greatest all round guitarist ever, thats it.

But as far as tossers go that drummer takes it from Blackmore totally. ha ha ha its worse than watching someone wank!

great vid!!

This video has nothing to do with how good blackmore really is.The drummer is just as good if not better then cozy

Bobby R. is a great drummer!! I just don't understand how the **** anyone can say "Ritchie Blackmore is one of the greatest guitarists in the world" He's so damn overrated it's making me sick. Like this so called guitar-solo...it stinks, it's noisey, it smells cow-shit and all bad stuff you possibly can think of!!
evuuhl 5 years ago
You are wrong. And this isn't an actual guitar solo, it's just Blackmore doing some noisemaking. If you wanna hear actual Blackmore solos, listen to "Wring That Neck" from Powerhouse. If you still call him overrated after hearing that one, your ears are broken.
Yngtchie 5 years ago
As far as I understand you really didn't listen Blackmore very much, as Yngtchie says this is just noisemaking here, no real guitar solo. People at 70's and 80's liked things like this at concerts, but this does not represent Blackmore...

Well, I've heard most of the classic D.P. songs and a load full of Rainbow stuff as well. Of course the ol' man can play his instrument (perhpas i was a lil too harsh in my previous post) but i.m.o he's still overrated as in being what many people claims "one of the greatest guitarists in the world" Sure he has done some cool riffs through out the years, I'll give him that....but solowise he's just plain boredom.
evuuhl 5 years ago

So I don't agree with you there mate!
maghole 4 years ago
Blackmore made very good money but you are right. He was overshadowed by Jimi Hendrix - they were really contemporaries. This is a great clip. Dave Rosenthal is a friend of mine. Check out Happy The Man!

This is ingenious! Noisemaking it is. This is a show, remember?
Blackmore is underrated instead of overrated!
artnaz 5 years ago
ritchie is heavily under estimated in press but not under his colleages, most of them don' t want to say a bad word about him, because they now how good he is.
and yes you are sick, Blackmore is out of this world,
ask Yngwie, he will tell you who is the best guitar player of the seventies... Mr Blackmore

Hey, he lives with an absolute goddess who's 26 years his junior, so he must be doing something right!! :-D LOL
