I am from SE Michigan--here's what I say differently: aunt, caramel, pecans--tennis shoes, not shoes, shopping cart not cart. Sauna--I say sawna, I'm not Finnish!! Hey, I learned how to say pastie from trips up north!! You also have a little more emphasis on the harder vowels (tiny bit more Canadian.) "Today..." "do" -- the people above are right --a bit Irish there. Otherwise you almost sound like the rest of us 'ganders.
@mariannamouse Glad you hear you pronounce 'sauna' the right way! ;) I might be moving downstate (venturing down below the bridge, gasp!) for my phd, so I wonder if other people will notice as well! It's amazing how many variations of accents there can be in one country, let alone one state.
Wow I can definitively hear your accent! are you irish or scottish? Or have some of that in you....? I can sort of hear that. At first I REALLY thought you were from europe in ireland.
@EdgalisAstronomyLife I do have some Irish and Scottish heritage, but I've never lived anywhere else than upper michigan. I guess you could call it a 'yooper accent' (that's what people in upper michigan call themselves). I didn't even know I had an accent until someone told me about it, so it's pretty common up here! :)
@col0rfulconverse Aww :) I really think so! hehe I'm watching it again! I can hear that accent from Ireland! Its there. I think most guys will agree with me that its sexy :)
awesome, a fellow yooper. I'm from manistique and my friend and I have been looking up accent tags, and this is one of the only U.P. ones.
