The scene is too unrealistic:

First is the Iraqi defense line, it's simply a straight, exposed trench with almost no fortification. A mortar barrage will do the job, there is no need for a mechanized infantry attack. (the Iranian has hundreds of soldiers and dozens of tanks, but no mortar?).

The Iranian attack is stupid as well. No commander will send an infantry charge AFTER the tanks. And the infantry attacks with absolutely no suppressing fire? Even a private can organize a better attack.

Iran didn't use Centurions lol, they did have some Chieftains which broke down often from the lack of spare parts, and the PG-7VL is pretty much capable to penetrating a Chieftain's frontal arc of around 350-400mm of RHA.

As for the crap tranches during the gulf war the Iraqis had one long trench along the southern Kuwaiti border with all the dirt from the trenches piled up between them & the US lines so when the invasion kicked off the americans sent in the bulldozers and buried the poor basterds.

@heavenshield Why not focus on the more unrealistic aspects like a single RPG round destroying a tank in one shot at the front armor, or some of the ridiculous hand to hand scenes where an Iraqi pulls a rifle out of his opponents grip with only one hand lol. It's pretty realistic in some respects though, sending in a wave of irregulars to clear the mines before the regular army moves in was definitely a real Iranian tactic.

@heavenshield Well the part about the Iraqi trench line is true, the others aren't so. 1-The Iranians sent the first wave of mostly young boys to clear the minefields. Some were given AK's in the event a few got through. That was a very controversial thing after the war. 2- The tactic of sending infantry charge after a tank attack is an old, but effective way of winning battles quickly. If they had air support with the attack then it would've been an Iranian Blitzkrieg.

Believe it or not, that was actually how it was. The Iranians used "human wave assaults" (thats what u see - its not even an infantry assault - it is human wave assualt by partially armed and partially trained volunteers) The Iranians were a bunch of suicidal maniacs. One mistake this movie makes is it exaggerates the firepower of the Iranian infantry. 50% of them did not have any weapons at all. These boys were used simply to exhaust the Iraqi ammunition so that the "real" soldiers could follow

@EmperorofTerra the idea that ww1 was fought only in trenches is a myth. most ww1 battles were fought very similarly to ww2 battles except their weapons were more napoleonic in style. trenches were mainly done to not let the enemy know where you are and to be able to take cover when not fighting. plus not all ww1 engagements ended badly. 90% of the time you would raid a trench with no losses because the enemy was either not present at the time or decided it was not worth it.

I happen to be a scholar in WW1 and its battles and let me tell you every letter you put down is erroneous, first of all trenches were the order of the day in the Western Front as the German army and its enemy the French and English amongst others fought to a stand still and were pretty much facing each other throughout the 4 years and believe me they were not out in the open! Secondly, how can you say they were fought similar to WW2???
