  • There's an awesome reference to this cartoon in The New 52 Superman #3

  • It strikes me that Superman isn't really so much out to rescue the world as impress his girlfriend most of the time (the two seem to always be connected). So what? The same could be said of most people who have done great things.

  • thank you so much for uploading this!

  • 05:27 - That's just so wrong.

  • 09:05 "OH YEAH!"

  • I remember this one! We had it on VHS (but in hebrew) :P

  • Childhood memories!

Did you notice that 1940's superman can only jump high and not really fly?

  • I'm 25 now but I remember that old worn out VHS tape I watched again and again as a little boy. These Fleischer Cartoons belong on a short list of animation worth preserving. Superman has never looked better.

  • Vincent Price?

  • There are giant mechanical monsters robbing banks, and they decide to display $50 million dollars worth of jewels anyway? Talk about "the show must go on" ...

  • In the 1940s all cops used tracer rounds o.o

  • This video just proves how far back in the day Superman was doing his thing in Metropolis!

  • 70 years later, with all our computer animation software our cartoons don't look half as good, the only explanation is lazyness

  • It would seem to me that all the DC animated series of recent time definitely tip their hats to Max, as the styles are similar, and both are well done.

  • Watching these makes me wanna cry. Because When I was about 3 or 4 (I'm currently 18), my grandmother had these cartoons on VHS, and I used to watch ALL THE TIME! But my grandmother recently died of breast cancer, God rest her soul. R.I.P. Darlene "Honey" Berklich.

  • @75flash Aww dude i'm sorry, but umm. You would not happen to know where I can find the one where Superman is battling the giant mummy guys do you? That one was so awesome!

  • The animation is just wonderful, even compared to modern cartoons.

  • this just made my day!Thanx 4 posting!

  • too bad they never made Batman Fleischer cartoons

  • I think this villain is one of the most logical. Who wouldn't want to be their own boss, work from home and earn a fortune, all while wearing black tie. The man is working at a computer bank in a cave and he's wearing a goddamn tuxedo! Now if only Osama could learn a sartorial lesson or two, we might be a little more forgiving...

  • It's always those mad scientists that ruin everything for us!

  • 7:53-9:42

    Beautiful

  • Those robots remind me a lot of the opening of "Sky Captain". Notice how the look plane like when they fly, and the overall design.

  • @larionov87 : Good eye!

The CG Artists that did... well... everything in "Sky Captain", were very much aware of these Max Fleischer "Superman" cartoons while creating that film.

In fact, they said so at the time the film was released. They specifically mentioned "The Mechanical Monsters" as one of their inspirations.

  • They should still be making cartoons like this the animation is stunning

  • I just assumed all animations done before the Super Friends would look just as bad. I was sadly mistaken. These old Superman cartoons are mini masterpieces of art and animation.

  • @disneylandhero still super friends is fucking awesome compared today's crap

  • best fuckin cartoon ever made!! Man this brings back memories!! No im not that old im only 21 but I still used to watch these cartoons. Everytime they would come on my dad would say,"This is what I watched when I was a kid." Wish we had cartoons like this around today :(

  • If you like Superman and super heroes, check out my channel, which includes my own videos of a superhero character I am creating.

  • Also, is it just me... or was Louis ugly as FUCK back then?

I'm serious just look at her. Large forehead, beedy eyes, small lips... superman can see into outer space but I dont know WHAT he sees in her!

  • Everyone looked like that in the 40s. It was the style to wear your eyes small.

  • when i was i kid, i been thinking that is look like a hot orange and milk smoothie i think. but i realizes it's just a boiling lava. 7:21

  • Aboslutly gorgoues animation movies of the best superhero around..You gave us wonderful cartoons Fliescher bros not to mention Jerry and Joe you guys will always be superhero`s for giving us the greatest treasure we could ever imagine and have "Superman"

  • For a cartoon that came out in the 40s, the animation is incredible. The character animation is nice and smooth and the robots look cool two.

  • Superman vs. tangley electrical wiring !!

dag nabbit ya know bill gates invents and modernizes Winblows which has been a pain in the ass to operate since 1980-whatever and this guy can control ROBOTS with one button in 1941. bill gates=attack of the mechanical fail.

  • ...this amazing stranger from the planet Krypton, the man of steel, Superman! Seen here in his underwear!"

  • One of my oldest memories is of this cartoon. I had actually forgotten until now...

If only someone had told me the mad scientist was based on Nikola Tesla, I would have learned about him sooner. :)

  • Dude you gagged her. She couldn't tell u even if she wanted to.

  • Beautiful cartoon. See that take off between the buildings? Wow! Are these the days before could fly. Seems to be free falling down on the MM. This seems to be the best and most influencial of these cartoons with it scenes being repeated in Sky Captain and other comics. Lois is sexy in these days. Elegant and a woman ahead of her time. : ) Or if you think about the movies of the time - perhaps it was a great time for girls like her.

  • Is it just me or does anyone else think it's strange that a guy with the funds to build a small army of robots and a secret fortress robs banks?

  • Probably invested in sub-prime mortages

  • He robs banks because needs the money to pay off the debts incurred while building all the robots.

    Ironic, I know.

  • Lyrics to the Superman theme:

I kick ass, I kick ass!

I kick ass I kick ass I kick ass!

  • at 4 min the #13 robot changes to #5 and back again.these are soo cool i have them all on dvd

  • I felt dizzy and vomited watching this

  • lois is always being captured

  • Well, that's the 40s for ya. There was always a damsel in distress in those days.

  • ROFLMAO!!! The first Transformers... or maybe the Decepticons :O

  • Seems 'Sky Captain' was inspired by this.

Superman is always saving Lois. Hope she rewards him...if you know what I mean.

  • To captain405...Lois Lane back in those days was always doing truly stupid stuff. Else how could Supes save her dumb butt so she could write the article and sigh over him?

  • This is the first and only Superman episode that he uses his X-ray vision.

  • this is great! its the only episode I remember from when I was a kid! thanx for uploading it!

  • sweet jesus, just when I thought lois couldn't get any stupider...

  • wow this is great, b4 my time but i had this on video when i was a kid, cheers to who put this on

  • Heheh! I love this. The locking mechanism on the monster's luggage compartment is so strong it can resist Superman trying to pry it open, but it still flies open on its own whenever the damn thing flips over.

Still, that's one sweet robot right there.

Lois Lane looks super cute (and hot) in here.

  • excellent!!!!
