  • yup i want one

  • This is great...now make it fly! Love this!

In the Fantastic Worlds of Irwin Allen, there is footage of divers pushing the real flying sub through the water. It seemed like all it needed was a little shove and it glided nicely through the shot.

  • This is great...now can you make it fly?

  • It never flew!!!

  • @Sweboii95 The name "Flying Submarine" is associated with the show Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. The model in this video is they same style of hull known as the Flying Submarine or FS1.

  • what are those God-awful noises?

  • @ThatDamnedPirate That is raw audio, what you are hearing is what the hydrophone captured.

  • Beautiful design, main reason I liked the show so much as a kid.

  • It would be nice to install a small water proof camera on top of it.

  • Yes .. this has been done on some of my other video's.

  • moar internal lighting would make it even more awesome....

  • @porkandbeans1991 Yes, although the inside is pretty cramped with stuff already to make it work underwater.

  • Is this just going on its own or is it controlled by a radio? If by a radio you would have to swim with it for it to recieve the radio signal. This does not seem to be practical.

  • It is controlled with an RC transmitter from the shore. You do not need to be in the water to see where it goes.

  • Neat! Memories of Richard Basehart. What are you using for propulsion?

  • @NcalBiker A couple of small bilge pumps.

  • @bcliffe3055 Great idea. Gives me ideas. Thnx.

  • @bcliffe3055 A bit more... Attitude control. Directional control on the output nozzles only or did you use ballast control? I didn't see any control surfaces. Thinking a combination of both, pumping between tanks for aft and side to side to assist nozzle control.

  • @NcalBiker There is no ballast system, it is a dynamic diver. The shape of the hull actually makes the flying sub want to dive all on it's own. Any forward motion will take it underwater. The bilge pumps outputs can be directed up and up and down to control depth.

Google "bcliffe flying sub" to find a link to my build log of how my FS1 is put together.

  • @bcliffe3055 I see. Thanks.

  • Looks realistic, exccept for the lack of blue striping on the hull and fins.

  • Does it fly though?

  • Nope. I know a guy though that is building one that should have enough power to jump out of the water though.

  • can u help me find were to bye tthem online

  • Google my website "bcliffe" for some links. Also google "MOEBIUS FS1"

  • Very nice.

Do you think it's possible to fit a RC-submarine with a (cheap) wireless camera as well?

  • It is. Google "bcliffe" then go to Hobbies and then Hobby Video's. The file SubCamera03 is a wireless camera.

The problem with wireless is you will lose the radio signal when you submerge.

  • This is cool. Who produces this flying sub and are they for sale?

  • Google "bcliffe" find my website and check out the FS1 details on my Hobbies section.

Also Moebius Models has just released a slightly smaller FS1.

  • How do you get the radio waves not to lose too much strength at that depth? Or how did Ted do it?

  • In fresh water a 75 Mhz radio wave does quite well.

    Typically

    fresh water = good

    pool water = okay

    salt water = doesn't work

  • Thx.

  • Great to see my FS-1 design actually works as an RC

    Fantastic!

  • Wow .....Fantastic! Keeps the world of my youth alive. Thank You.

  • I Love IT! That's a great clip , it really looks like it was done on 20th Century Fox Studios,I can see where you was on location,Keep up the good work because you is proof that Irwin Allen still lives in todays society.

  • Thanks!

  • This is Sweet! How did you get it to perform those maneuvers? I am very impressed. Irwin Allen should have hired you.

  • Thanks. This FS1 isn't mine but Teds, mine is hopefully 1 winter away from getting in the water.

These are remote control FS1s, they use bilge pumps to squirt the water out the back and you control the direction by changing the output of the pumps.

  • I'd love to know everything you done to construct this. My ambition is to make an R/C Seaview although I am years away

    from doing so.

Yours is a job well done.

  • Thanks, a partial build log is on my website, haven't been good at keeping it up to date though.

Google bcliffe and follow the Hobbies link.

  • Lol it looks like weird but ASWOME!
