  • 3:02 Ouch!

  • i have a dodge ram 1500 2003 and cadillac CTS 2005

  • i have a Ferarri Spider, RACE????

  • yes xD

  • @AsH09TW fuck ferraris

  • the Dodge Ram and Jeeps performed the best.

  • @MPLSTORM youre a dumbass

  • 1:45 - something interesting. The car is safe but the rear door buckles some. A lack of structural discipline.

  • wow, an awful lot of the dummies hit their heads in the ceiling bars near the drivers door

  • @simlover323 Yeah, it's pretty common with test dummies, but I can't help wondering if that actually happens with humans. I think a person's instinct would be to try and stay more planted in their seat. The dummies kinda bounce up usually. I put little faith in crash tests/ crash test ratings. They don't seem to have much real world application unless there are obvious issues with the vehicle being tested.

  • These are 2000-2003 model cars.

  • 3:02 AIRBAG POPPED OUT LATE

  • 2001 Hyundi Elantra POS with the late airbag

  • i thought it was 60 mph crashes...

  • this is why racing games with damage half-assed...a real forty mph crash is real destruction

  • if this is only 40mph then wtf happenes when ur going 80?

  • 4x the energy in the crash. At 80, you would die even in a Top Safety Pick.

  • there are a few that can hold up to that... there was a guy a few years ago that was driving a late 90's bmw 7 series, going 75. hit the start of a guardrail like a ramp, and flipped full force into a bridge pillar, totaled the car, and walked away with a couple nicks and bumps. safe cars do exist but they are pricey

  • Yeah, ok.

  • CTS did well, Dodge truck sucked, Honda and Toyota don't look good for the most part alex... lol.

Dodge stratus label upside down? Lol! So is the benz and some are backwards. Guess its just the vid.

  • Honda and Tioyota both came out pretty respectively. Very little to no deformation beyond ther front quarter panels. And out of the 3 trucks tested the Toyota Tachoma came out very well. The Chevy and especially the dodge had a lot of crumpling going on in the cab behind the crush zone.

  • Japanese cars are by far the best in the world.. I dont trust american cars :)

  • I say the Liberty and CTS did the best. that dodge pickup recieved a lot more damage then i would have expected

  • note to self, buy a Chrysler LHS or a Dodge Stratus, or a Dodge Grand Carava, they were SAFE in this video.

  • Note to self: buy a Honda or Toyota because they are much more safer, fuel efficient, look better (for the most part, anyway, lol) and are of better quality.

  • honda, better reliabilty and have side-airbags standard on all their cars, and their cars a a bit safer :)

  • Toyota, their cars are bigger and tougher, and they have side airbags standard on most lines, don't deploy side airbags in the frontal crash, and better reliability.

  • @whattheheck1000 It's often important for the airbags to deploy in frontal crashes to prevent the head from slamming into the B pillar. A great example of this is in the 2009 (?) Audi A4. The driver side airbags deploy because of the likelihood of this happening, whereas the passenger side ones do not. Side air bags in high end cars don't deploy in frontal crashes for the hell of it...

  • @ineverrememberthese They do because it looks safer on video because people will think "More airbags! Goody!"

    June 10, 2011 6:59 pm

  • @whattheheck1000 Crash tests (especially those performed by the IIHS. Euro NCAP seems to be a bit more stringent with their ratings) mostly exist to make people feel better. Cars don't score poorly unless they are rather dangerous, so I don't take them very seriously to start with. The side curtain airbags do , however, serve a purpose in frontal crashes other than marketing, as I explained above. You won't always get a deployment of the side air bags in a front crash.

  • @ineverrememberthese Uhm, not really, there are so many cars that can keep that dummy's head away from the window without the side curtain airbags. They are pure marketing.

    June 11, 2011 12:04 am

  • @whattheheck1000 I never said the window, I said the B pillar. Either way, you can watch crash tests of small sedans all day long, and you'll see tons of dummy heads hitting B pillars. Not everything is some conspiracy to make more money. And marketing ploy or not, I'd prefer them to deploy so my car is totaled out and I can get a new one instead of driving a heavily repaired vehicle.

  • @ineverrememberthese Crash tests from 1999-2003 are in this video; car safety has come a long way since. (This video was posted May 3, 2006, these tests were recent then). Today dummies hit the B-pillar less frequently; engineers have learned how to prevent the dummies from hitting the B-pillar without using curtain airbags. And like it or not, car companies are in business to make a profit, so they'll use a safety feature of limited usefulness if it looks good on video.

    June 14, 2011 4:29 pm

  • @whattheheck1000 Many cars designed in 06 and a few years prior are still in production. Many of these vehicles (IS250, Additionally, wrecks (depending upon trajectory) can in many instances cause yaw as the car rebounds from the object it hits, increasing the likelihood of contacting the B pillar etc. That's largely beyond the vehicle's ability to control. I would prefer to be safe than sorry. Call it a marketing ploy, but it definitely has real world function regardless.

  • @whattheheck1000 (IS250 etc) don't control the movement of the driver's head as well as one would expect, and these vehicles could easily benefit from deployment of side curtain airbags to improve driver safety***

  • @ineverrememberthese The hits are often of low force, and wouldn't cause any additional injury other than maybe a bump on the head. Hence the curtain airbags have limited use. Maybe they would have use in some cars, such as the IS250 you mentioned.

    June 14, 2011 8:49 pm

  • @whattheheck1000 I'm sure we're both correct to an extent :P We can settle on that, can't we? hah

  • @ineverrememberthese Yes we can!

    June 14, 2011 9:14 pm

  • @whattheheck1000 you dont know shit about cars

  • @epetry25 yes i do... you might want to take a closer look

    January 20, 2012 12:20 am

  • @epetry25 don't write me off like that... when you assume you make an ASS out of you and me.

    January 28, 2012 2:39 am

  • im sure der doin more dan 40

  • gerçekten dehşet

  • holy crap, at 3:04, that Mitsubishi's air bag popped!!! WTF

  • That was the side airbag, look closely :)

  • whoa, most of those cars dont look safe at ALL, the way the head trashed around like that

  • fukin hell how does this get people excited nuffin gd about cars gettin bashed up fukin frowin money away 4 nuffin get a life

  • most of those people if they were real would be dead!

  • Unfortunately, you have no idea what you are talking about.

  • and you do? go on then with out looking on any site what is the safety rating of a volvo xc90??

  • Yes. Although I cannot prove I have not looked at either the EuroNCAP or IIHS websites when I say it is a five star car, its obvious anyway.

Your assumption that the occupants (if real) would be dead, I believe is based solely on what you see in the video without prior knowledge. The occupants of the best preforming cars would be able to walk away!

  • obviously! im only i kid!!!!!

  • So am I.

  • and..

  • Youth isn't an excuse for being wrong. To summarize, my judgment is based on fact whereas yours is not and so is incorrect.

  • look i dont care about your geeky facts! I dont want to argue with you!

  • I love my work.

  • wow, The CTS did great

  • Awesome Videos!! Sad that some cars airbags deployed

way too late! But most new cars are pretty safe!!

  • So, number one-BMW, 2-Mercedes, 3-Volvo, 4-Subaru

  • cheemooo, hitting another car in a head on collision would be much more deadly assuming that the second car was also moving. I understood what you were saying, but it was shittily worded.

  • definately a stress reliever.

  • DAMN, all the new cars up 2 to their safety standards, im impressed

  • That BMW has a very cool side impact airbag

  • Its not supposed to be cool, its supposed to protect you. It is so narrow.

  • bobtheorangutan this music is ankaralı namık salla:D

  • wow! Thank you for that great video.

  • amazing how the new side impact air bags seem to stop your head bouncing off the car!

  • well if two cars hit both of them would give, but in these tests the car hits an almost unweilding barrier, so the hit is even harder since what it hits hardly gives at all!

  • thank you very much..

  • whats the music plzz??

  • "Alone Again Or" by Love (1967)

  • the airbags in the car a 3:02 suck! the driver airbag deploys to late and smacks the dummy in the face at 320 km/h and then the side torso aibag comes out for some reason and takes about 2 seconds to inflate

  • its like an orgams for me to see cars getting wrecked... its nice :P obviously without real ppl inside

  • Damn ... this would also happen if 2 cars drive 20mph and have a frontal crash.

  • whats the music?

  • this cannot be 40 miles per hour this is at least 65mph. Freeway crashes! someone hit my car from the behind with speed of 45mph it was a VW Jetta and it was't bad like these crashes! I am sure thier speed are more that 40

  • these are 40mph crashes into a fixed object. when your jetta was hit the driver was probably doing 45, slammed brakes so slowed down some and your jetta probably moved forward some also

  • @pouriania No major crash test facilities do crashes at such speeds. In addition to what the author mentioned, both of your vehicles utilize crumple zones to reduce impact forces. The fixed object being hit in these tests does not give way.

  • @pouriania these are cars crashing into objects at a speed of 45mph into a still object with no speed or acceleration making the crash occur at 45mph but on the highway you may be going 45mph and a guy hits you at 55mph, the crash really is only hitting you at 10mph becuase ur both going over a speed of 45mph but since hes going 10mph faster and the same direction, hes hitting you at 10mph basically if you were standing still.

  • @NJK1D If the cars are going in the same direction, that's pretty much true, and it's a strong fender bender. If they are going in opposite direction (head on collision) it's a severe crash, equivalent to hitting a wall at 50 mph.

    June 21, 2011 8:59 pm

  • What is the music ?

  • well before speeding we should all remember these videos...

  • great video!!what was tha music name?

  • those cars are so weak, why cant they make strong cars like they used to

  • cars are made to crumble and absorb the impact, saves the people from absorbing it. cars can be replaced, we cant

  • airbags rule dude

  • Agree

  • yep, the dodge did not hold up, look at the passenger doors also. Pretty weak.

  • Look at all these car experts commenting. You have no idea what those crashes meant (99% of you anyway). All I saw was a car crashing, thats it.

  • Just think that before airbags were common those crashes would have been even more horrific, watch a few again but imigin the was no airbag....

  • i dont think pplz whud like to buy those cars anymore... plus its only goin 40mph how abt 80 or 120mph? or even 170mph in a Evo IX MR?!?!

  • the dodge did bad

  • Quick qustion, I think that the jeep liberty did pretty good. Am I wrong?

  • Cars are built to the best of their ability to provide a cushioned crash. That's what you call crush zones. If you had a "TOUGH" car of hard ass steel, you'd have suck a sudden crash giving less opportunity of survival. I think it's ridiculous how Side-impact airbags aren't standard in EVERY vehicle by now in f*** 2006!

  • For everyone's information, 90% of fatalaties occur on secondary roads. It's to bad there are still idiots that don't buckle up. Airbags are great but you still need to wear your seatbelts. I came very close to being killed and learned the physics lesson of a crash the hard way. And by the way, who gives a rats ass if your car is unrepairable when your dead or crippled! There are more horses asses than there are horses!

  • lol internationalnineone ure right

  • hahah its funny to watch the side mirrors. hehehe

  • Those side impact 'curtain' airbags are the most impressive thing in this video. Amazing how fast they react.

  • Had a great drive down the oregon coast in a sports car with The Damned on cassette, foggy, sandy, gorgeous, 2am...

  • @gorgydan

    Active Head Restraints:

    http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/TECHNOLOGY/INTRODUCTION/HEADREST/index.html

  • Hi that video rocks can you tell me what website you got it from please?

  • what are active head restraintes?

  • active head restraints work mainly to function in rear impacts, but as well as in frontal impacts by reducing the chance of whiplash. Like in a impact, the head restrains automatically tilt or shift foreward in order to reduce the distance the drivers head has to travel during rebound.

  • I know, I know steel is expensive, but i would want a car that could be repaired. I was driving a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham Edition. And i skidded 60 ft, and hit them straight on. I was going 45mph and when i hit i was going 35mph. we had to get a good front clip and a radiator but the passanger compartment was still in good condition. i think a car manufacturer needs to make cars like they used to be, tough. And where did you get this video, it would be awesome to see.

  • cars are meant to crumple like that so we feel the impact less.

  • If you study physics, you will learn that any impact that is not taken by the vehicle, will in turn be transfered to your body.

I would rather see my car crushed in the correct places if it saves my life, as opposed to a car that can be repaired for someone else's use after my passing.

  • I sooo agree with mikesho. People think just 'cos a car is bigger, heavyer, stronger etc they think it is safer, Its NOT!

  • I would rather be in an accident in a Ford Excursion than a mini cooper b/c bigger cars are safer than smaller cars. Yes, smaller cars are neater and everthing but bigger cars, when it comes to safety are superior.

  • i think cars should be tested at about 50-60 mph because that's about the average speed of american drivers.

  • yeah what about highway crashes those happen at 70-80mph

  • you right

  • Crumple zones. Cars are designed to be smashed. Open your hood and take a look. You will see small indentations under the hood that are designed to bend upon impact, also on the deck lid (trunk). A vehicle is made to absorb an impact, so some crumpling around the passinger area is not always a bad thing.

  • "USE STRONGER STEEL!" Man, do you even know what are you talking about? Steel used to reinforce passenger compratment is one of the hardest invented at reasonable price! You want car, that won't bend so much in front? Happy huge g-force crashes! :/ Front HAVE TO bend, but passenger compratent should not (as happened in van and pickup) to make body-stopping lenght as long as possible (and reduce max g-force)

  • Steel is expensive. Anyone know the song that plays during this videos? Love it!

  • its alone again by the band love

  • Thanks.

  • Thanks!

  • lol sure by industry standards they recieve 4 star ratings, but not to my standards, the year is 2007, make cars run on electricity only and should be able to withstand crashes at 40mph atleast. CMON, make vehicles last dammit. USE STRONGER STEEL!

  • but if they use stronger steel it would cause more casualties because more shock would be delivered to the driver.

  • with all this modern tech, ALL CAR manufacturers must have active head restraints. NOT just nissan and inifiniti but ALL of them..when the cars 2 main aribags pop infront of the dummy, all of the other airbags should deploy as well, just like how hyundai elantra did..it saved the mans heas from being smacked back against the rear of the door...all must have active head restraints, and all airbags must be deployed so that the person has protection all around not just infront of.!

  • "that dodge truck did horribly"

Actually, it got a "Good" rating overall from the IIHS, the company who tested the vehicles.

  • in general limousines look better than pickups, suvs and vans. just think about the weight.

  • In many cities in (Western) Europe, the top speed for urban areas (normal city streets) is about 20mph. This makes most trips take only a couple minutes longer BUT makes things much safer for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

  • that dodge truck did horribly

i would be amazed if it got 3 stars

  • yeah germish cars did very well, but all the cars are totaled, something else to start looking at.

  • that's a great movie - really interesting - german cars rulezzz

  • Germasn Cars Suck Ass

  • @illiethug: i think you have no idea and knowledge about car safety! Almost all cars in that video perform excellent!

  • Those of you that think these cars are unsafe probably shouldn't check out the crash tests for Chinese cars...

Btw, many of these probably received five star ratings. Cars are supposed to crumple up in the front like that...it absorbs the crash energy rather than transferring it to the passenger compartment.

  • But when it crash, you could see the dummy's head hit the roof or the window...

  • That hasn't heppen in acura cars

  • Most of those cars were very safe. Even the small ones did a pretty good job of keeping the passenger cell intact and using the front to absorb impact. They've come a long way.

  • I WOULD HATE TO SEE 60MPH

  • car makers dont care about people they only care about their bank account
