Hes using the SP because if you cant see all of his pad banks are filled up with drum sounds, and fill ins. He has the SP so he can throw the samples in there instead of having to change the banks back and fourth which is a smart fucking idea, this guy is the freehand god in my book, ive been doing this kinda shit for a while, its how i learned how to use the MPC haha, but im no where near Jel haha

dude, jel is the shit, but lets not get crazy here, man. becoming proficient on drums is hard as fuck, easily as hard if not harder than using an MPC. if you think that there isn't a compositional or improvisational aspect to playing drums, even solo, you're crazy. my drummer has three electric hats on the side of his kit that he uses to trigger midi pads/sequences like an MPC, PLUS flailing his arms and moving his legs constantly. Dripping sweat from physical exhaustion

Awesome vid. I met Jel, Alias, and Dose One like 5 years ago at Independent Records in downtown Denver before anybody had heard of these guys. I was bumping Anticon WAY back around the time Sole dropped his first LP and the Deep Puddle Dynamics LP came out. All the guys are cool as f*** and very talented so I'm happy they're getting some fame and that Jel is FINALLY getting recognition as one of the best producers around. "10 Seconds" is one of the best instrumental hip hop LP's ever made.
