The cop testified that the suspect was so close that he feared for his life. Well you chased after him, why did he get THAT close. Plus the first time the cop called out was at 1:14 and first shot was fired at 1:22 that is only 8 seconds to respond. Ok the officer would not be aware that the suspect was deaf, but he seriously over reacted and jumped the gun on shooting this guy. He should of stayed back giving a safety zone and given more time for response. I usually back up officers, not here

I like the way the story of what happened seemed unsure when describing three times. First he said, he had a knife wouldn't drop it and came at me. Then he had a knife and I told him drop it multiple times, multiple times and he wouldn't. And finally he had knife open cutting that wood, told him multiple times drop it and he kind of turned towards me. So I shot him four times after teling drop it twice in 3 seconds. there is such a thing called due process y'know? I've been to war twice and just because someone had a knife, or even a gun, we didn't kill them on the spot. Maybe during my first tour there were instances, before the "peacekeeping " mission started, armed men were engaged, but it was also made clear over public radio that there was no firearms allowed on the streets. My second tour, I remember seeing men w/ AK's in the streets numerous times. No shots fired, no problems.

Not only did I read the title, I actually looked into the case. While it is likely that no one was payed off, and there is no conspiracy, the cop did not get what he deserved. He was a rogue cop. My response to the video is a fair stance. I truly believe if the officer was found guilty, that he would be charged with voluntary manslaughter with 30 plus years in prison. But in this case it's unfortunate that a precious human life was taken away. Although the investigation can go either way, I would say this: I have seen videos of cops being stabbed almost to death by a professional knife welder because his was too hesitant to shoot the suspect when told to dropped it.
I suggest you react with extreme force only under obvious signs of attack and remain vigilant at all times. More often than not, this will save you from being hurt by criminals and save others from being hurt by you. Prudent authority is essential to maintaining order, but prudence is not a given. Everything is suspect including the system. Blind faith in a uniform or system can undermine either. It's not enough to know what's right, you must know how to act on that knowledge.
You are naive to believe the government will treat an officer as harshly as you state. Public perception is important, and many people believe covering up the negative behavior of rogues is preferable to reducing the public's faith in those in uniform. It appears that you don't believe this. If so, please put bias aside and keep an eye on all criminals including those in the government. Good people need such allies. I have not read the full story on this situation but in the police academy we are trained to shoot center-mass only if the subject refused to drop the knife. Although the subject can not be identify at that very moment if his hearing was impaired or not, the officer at the scene of the incident can only make that split second decision whether he will take his shot or risk his life being stab to death. Only he would have to make that decision , not from the hindsight of the viewers.

I'm a certified corrections officer and this was a gross misuse of power. We're trained to be on our toes and to be ready for anything. That doesn't mean draw down on someone with a pocket knife. There were steps he should've taken. Had he used his training this wouldn't have happened.

there is such a thing called due process y'know? I've been to war twice and just because someone had a knife, or even a gun, we didn't kill them on the spot. Maybe during my first tour there were instances, before the "peacekeeping " mission started, armed men were engaged, but it was also made clear over public radio that there was no firearms allowed on the streets. My second tour, I remember seeing men w/ AK's in the streets numerous times. No shots fired, no problems.

Blame Mr. Ayoob and the 21 feet rule or better yet since it is a good rule try this if lunged at draw and fire, if he's not responding don't close the distance to put hands on because you already know he has a knife. He could have had ear buds in, not realized it's him you're yelling at, been drunk or even deaf so it might sound funny, throw something at him. When he turns you’ll probably have your pistol drawn so he should get it by then and you’ll be a good 20 feet away.

Not only did I read the title, I actually looked into the case. While it is likely that no one was payed off, and there is no conspiracy, the cop did not get what he deserved. He was a rogue cop. In the real world, collective bias is much more powerful than any conspiracy can ever be. And sadly, there is a very real bias that allows cops to get away with heinous crimes. It is hard for me to stomach. Maybe this bias has the opposite effect on you, hopefully because you deny it exists.

My response to the video is a fair stance. I truly believe if the officer was found guilty, that he would be charged with voluntary manslaughter with 30 plus years in prison. But in this case it's unfortunate that a precious human life was taken away. Although the investigation can go either way, I would say this: I have seen videos of cops being stabbed almost to death by a professional knife welder because his was too hesitant to shoot the suspect when told to dropped it.

I suggest you react with extreme force only under obvious signs of attack and remain vigilant at all times. More often than not, this will save you from being hurt by criminals and save others from being hurt by you. Prudent authority is essential to maintaining order, but prudence is not a given. Everything is suspect including the system. Blind faith in a uniform or system can undermine either. It's not enough to know what's right, you must know how to act on that knowledge.

Public perception is important, and many people believe covering up the negative behavior of rogues is preferable to reducing the public's faith in those in uniform. I have not read the full story on this situation but in the police academy we are trained to shoot center-mass only if the subject refused to drop the knife. Although the subject can not be identify at that very moment if his hearing was impaired or not, the officer at the scene of the incident can only make that split second decision whether he will take his shot or risk his life being stab to death. Only he would have to make that decision , not from the hindsight of the viewers.
