It's beautiful watching Kobe when he's on fire. There is just no one, absolutely no one who could score with the kind of fluidity, grace and versatility displayed here.
Kobes only MVP was in 08 the year we lost to boston. that always makes me wonder if 1 of the reassons he didnt win it in 03-04 and 06-07 is the rape charges. cuz i know for a fact he deserves more than 1. Kobe is the greatest baller on this planet. if you hate ur silly when we celebrate our 3peat this year maybe you'll finally understand
Kobe raping a smut White girl from Colorado?CUT IT OUT.Kobe had girls throwing themselves at him left, right & centre. He didn't have to rape a damn thing. She was just in it for a payday!!!!
kobe doesnt think hes ahead of magic or kareem yet when he gets 5 then its definite but until then you cant really say kobe without a doubt im not hatin or tryin to knock but it will be without a doubt if he wins this year
yea i agree and payton was declining they should of chose between getting malon or payton not both i rather malone kuz he didnt win a title at all payton did two years later and im mad kobe waited 4 more years to win 1 title by himself when he kould of won 3 more with shaq, But that also depended on if the league wasnt so gay and took the game from shaq putting in hanchecking and stupid ass charging fouls and ppl who flop and use elbows once in awhile and adding the stupid defensive three sec
Plus Phil put too much faith in Malone and Payton. Malone was hurt and Payton was too stupid to learn the triangle offense. But Phil, as usual, felt committed to the vets and road them too long. They should have played Fish, Rick Fox, etc. more. Regardless with Malone down and Horry gone we were very limited at the 4 position and Sheed made us pay.
@lordg17 yeah man.. in game 4 they lost by 8 but malone had to leave the game.. he played 20 mins it was tied going into the 4th.. had he been there atleast his usual 35-40 mins we woulda won that game.
=2-2.
game 5 detriot beats us by 13. maybe they win that game with him there
=3-2 pistons. game 6 and 7 in la... we woulda won it all somehow.
@lordg17 come on dude the lakers only one 1 game out of that hole series with the talent they had. please the fact that malone did not play would have not made that much of a difference. give the pistons a lot of credit. they kicked the lakers asses. the lakers still had a super team with out malone lol and they still lost.
if kobe didnt have all those great teammates in the begginning of his career which was his prime(age 20 to 25)... his ppg would be off the charts and better than MJs
anyone who thinks Kobe did rape that girl, tell me this. Do you think that if he knew that he did that, that he could go to court, fly to the game, and score 42 points with that on his mind? No. Not unless he is some super human. He couldn't play with that on his mind.
@King5133 yea that and also... kobe was sober... why the FUCK would a sober kobe bryant who could fuck any girl n the world if he wanted 2 rape some ugly bitch?
MJ not only beats Kobe statistically, but in terms of honors, accolades, accomplishments, records, rings, and impact on the game. In other words, MJ beats Kobe in every way possible. There is absolutely ZERO reason to believe Kobe is as good or better than MJ. Kobe shoots 3s better, but then, so did Steve Kerr. Jordan GOAT.
It's about how many rings the player LED the team to, as well as stats, accomplishments, mvps, finals mvps, records, rings, and impact on the game. Jordan beats Kobe in every respect. Kobe is definitely not more talented than MJ. If he is, he sure hides it well. lol. Jordan GOAT. Kobe top 12-15 all time.
No he isn't. MJ went 6 for 6 in finals with 6 finals mvps, 5 mvps, 10 scoring titles, better stats, more records, won DPOY, and was simply better. Don't overrate Kobe. Bill Simmons ranks him #15 in his new book. SLAM magazine ranked Kobe #12 in their top 50 of all time last June. Nobody of consequence has Kobe ranked much higher if at all.
No, Kobe is not more talented than everyone else in nba history. And what you "give a shit about" is irrelevant. Jordan doesn't just beat Kobe in stats and numbers, but EVERYTHING: stats, accomplishments, honors, mvps, finals mvps, DPOY awards, records, rings, and impact on the game. That's why nobody but young Kobe fans rank him higher than top 10-15. That's just reality. Jordan GOAT, easily.
Nobody of consequence has Kobe top 10 all time. Only his fans. Bill Simmons ranks Kobe 15. SLAM magazine ranked Kobe 12 in their new top 50 back in June. He's top 12-15 all time.
ok thats still another persons opinion and i want to work in sports and thats all i do is research and study the nba and its history honestly. i think kobe bryant is top 10 ever because he has plenty of individual accolades to back up his greatness im not saying hes better than mj. mj set the standard of basketball greatness and it will never be or can be duplicated but with all that kobe has accomplished and what he will accomplish it is safe to put him in the top 10
Of course it's all opinion, but these are opinions based on facts. I've been watching and playing ball since the 80s. Kobe simply needs to LEAD a team to another ring, get another finals mvp, and improve his stats a bit to be considered higher. If he LEADS the lakers to another ring this year, he'll be top 10, for sure, but right now, he's borderline. I can respect maybe having him right at #10, although I disagree with that, but nothing higher.
@reneperezz Hey man. Yeah, Kobe is borderline top 10 at best...for now. He has the potential to move up. I can tell you are a fan of his. I'm not, but I recognize his greatness. He doesn't stand out from his peers, and is no longer the best player in the game. Looking at all the evidence: stats, accomplishments, skill, versatility, mvps, finals mvps, dpoy awards, records, rings, and impact on the game, Kobe is definitely not ahead of those guys in the top 7 or 8, and probaly not 10 or 11.
No, Simmons now ranks him as breaking into top 10 after he won his 4th title last year. And coming from a Boston homer like him, that says something. Just face the fact that he's top 10 all time, and will possible break into the top 5 by the time his career is over. He'll never be better or accomplish more than Jordan or Russel, but nobody will.
Youtube doesn't allow links to be posted, but google "bill simmons kobe change", and read the first linked Simmons article that shows (dated 6/19/09). The exact quote:
"That fourth title propelled him into the top 10 and yanked the 'Can't win without Shaq' monkey off his back"
And it's not just Jordan that was better. Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Magic and Bird easily outrank Kobe as well...for now.
Thanks. So simmons bumped him from #15 to #10. SLAM has him #12, and I agree with that ranking. Obviously not just Jordan had a better career than Kobe, that's what the rankings are all about. Kobe can never be GOAT, but he can certainly move up the list and perhaps be top 5 one day.
@reneperezz Let the adults talk, dumbass. Everyone on this thread agrees that Kobe is great, the question is where he ranks all time. As of now, yrs before he retires, he doesn't beat Wilt, Kareem, Magic , Bird or Jordan. Now shut the fuck up and go back to watching cartoons.
@masterdeviance1985 Come on man you know in your heart that Kobe is already better than all of them other than maybe Magic and MJ. and when his career is over he will be the BEST EVER.
and its obvious he is more talented and skilled then all of them put together.....
@reneperezz If you're basing greatness based solely on highlights, I can tell you Jordan, Kareem, Wilt, Bird and Magic all have equally amazing highlights that you can find on youtube.
But if you're going to base it on statistics and how much the player contributed to his team's success, then those 5 are clearly superior to Kobe at this point in his career. I'm not saying he can't crack the top 5 by the time he retires, but he's clearly not there yet...and knowledgeable NBA fans will agree.
@masterdeviance1985 im a diehard kobe fan i never got a chance to watch anyone from the 80s play because im only 18 but what does kobe have to do to be in the conversation as a top 5 all time great with magic bird and mj ??
@rdotpatterson It comes down to efficiency. Kobe can hit some amazing shots, but he misses a hell of alot of them as well. And when he does, he takes the whole team badly out of rhythm. Him winning his 5th ring will help his legacy for sure, but Jordan would NEVER have missed 18 outta 24 shots taken in a Finals game (let alone a game 7). He's a top 10 all time without a doubt though, and if he wins 1 or 2 more rings he'll keep climbing the list...
@masterdeviance1985 i watched a game on msg the other night mj vs the knicks he had a shitty game kobe did have a shitty game 7 but a huge reason why the lakers won was because kobe grabbed 15 rebounds and had 10 points in the 4th but i can live with him being top 10 all time hes not even close to done hes only 31
@rdotpatterson Just to be clear, I think Kobe is the greatest player of his generation. And like you said, he's not even 32 yet (although he has way more miles on his legs than other 31/32 yr old NBA players). I just don't think he matches Jordan in terms of offensive efficiency and consistency. When Kobe gets hot, it usually makes his teammates passive bystanders. Jordan Kareem Bird and Magic were just a bit better at knowing how to get hot within the overall flow of their team's offense.
@deadfresh10 get the fuck outta here at first i was taking what u say serious but that was a fuckin joke go jump off a bridge for that give the guy his respect asshole
@rdotpatterson wtf?? vince carter and tracy mcgrady both had more athletic ability than kobe in his prime, and both had fadeaways similar to kobe, therefore they could make some of the same shots he makes. how am I an asshole?? because I told you something you think is false?? i never said they were on the same level as kobe, just that they could hit those 3 shots. being a fan is one thing but if u think nobody else could hit those shots ur either uneducated, or totally delusional.
@deadfresh10 mayb they would hit shots like that once in a while but kobes been doin it on a nightly basis for 10 fuckin years please dont ever put vince carter in the same sentence as kobe ever again
@rdotpatterson are you an idiot??!!!! did you not read my post?? let me quote myself. "i never said they were on the same level as kobe, just that they could hit those 3 shots." you asked who else in the league could hit shots like that, and i simply named them. I'm really starting to think your around my age, which generally means you don't know shit about basketball.
@rdotpatterson I already acknowledged that Kobe makes some incredible shots. But Michael shot 54% twice in his career. Playing the same position against weaker defenders in an era where you CANNOT BY RULE be as physical, Kobe has never shot as much as 48%. Do you realize how much more efficient 6% per year just on shooting makes a player? Jordan never would have taken the kind of crappy shots Kobe took in Game 7 of this year's Finals. The Lakers won in SPITE of Kobe that game, not because of him
@masterdeviance1985 yea im not saying kobes better i know jordans number 1 but to say kobe shouldnt be mentioned in the same sentence is like saying kobes not even close which he is by far the closest to jordan and no1 in the nba now is even close to kobe
@masterdeviance1985 If we're going to judge by just FG% Jordan took pretty crappy shots in the '96 finals as well as the '98 finals. But you have to look at things in context. In that game 7, everyone besides Fisher and KG shot poorly. In spite of having an off night shooting wise, Kobe found another way to help his team win with rebounding, defense and getting to the line. That's what great players like Kobe and Jordan do.
what about bill russle dumb ass he had 11 rings and more mvp fianls and if your talking about stats look at oscar robertson and mainly wilt chamberlain he was a fuckin beast
What about him, dumbass? Jordan isn't above Kobe just because of rings. Jordan beats Kobe in everything: stats, accomplishments, honors, mvps, finals mvps, DPOY awards, records, rings, and impact on the game. It's pretty obvious. Jordan is GOAT, Kobe top 12-15. Wil, Bill, Oscar all top 7.
dude if you hate kobe why are you watching this im not saying kobe GOAT but why is jordan GOAT theres a lot of player who have accomplished more then him i bet he would never average a trippler double for a season, would never score 100, win 11 rings right?
What are you talking about? I don't hate Kobe at all, I just recognize reality. And no, there is no player who has accomplished MORE than Jordan. Certain players have accomplished different things than Jordan, but nobody has accomplished more in total. Jordan is GOAT, Kobe is top 12-15.
Can someone tell me why the comments in a Kobe video always have to mention Jordan?
They are both great players, obviously...But let's leave it at that, at least until Kobe's career is wrapped up so we can fully compare the 2 in a fair way...
Until then, it's stupid..Let Kobe be Kobe and MJ be MJ...But Jordan's in the past, yall that are hating on Kobe and missin out on his greatness...that's your fault..I'm just glad I get to watch.
Kobe is great player...but Greatest was MJ Career PPG 30.1 playoffs 33.4 finals 33.9 in 1993 he won 3rd title to years ago than he backt to basketball after 21 on month he won 4th, then 5th and 6th ... Jordan won 6 finals mvps ... oh my god!!!
why do kobe haters [aka washed up jordan fans] always talk shit on kobe videos? if they hate him so much, and think he's so poor, why are they always commenting on positive kobe videos? its retarded.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Truly not even close, unless you want to only look at the ambiguous "talent". Kobe doesn't have the stats, accolades, accomplishments, records, or rings to be top 2 or 3. NBA scouts have him #15 all time as of the end of last season. He's great in many ways but has some key weaknesses. Don't overrate him.
That's the point, if you are looking at "ambiguous" talent, it is AMBIGUOUS where he ranks, because you can't quantify or measure talent. So while it may be your opinion that Kobe is as talented as anyone who has ever played, someone's opinion who thinks Kobe isn't nearly that talented is worth just as much. Because it's completely subjective. That's why you look to objective measures.
yeah 15th all time at 29 yrs old idk man thats pretty good. plus there has never been this much star power in NBA history. kobe has always had Duncan, Garnett, iverson, now nash, lebron, dirk, mello, wade, shaq, amare, and guys like that and hes still ranked number 1 out of all of them.
15th all time is great period. KB has no apologies to make. He is awesome, simply not the best ever or as good as Jordan. And yes, there has often been as much star power as there is today.
After the game, O'Neal said: "I don't see how he does it. He's a fabulous player, probably the best player that ever played the game. Especially with all the stuff he's been going through." (more)
yo utfanatic2000 u got jordans dick so far down u throat that u cant see. fuck stats, stats r for bitches that cant handle the truth kobe is now jordan is in the past i love mj 2 death but there is no reason y u should hate kobe just cuz he is the best
theyre not facts bro, theyre STATS, it is not a FACT that jordan is better than kobe, no matter how much you search in your wide pussy, you will never find any FACTS that proove that jordan is a better basketball player than kobe, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, IT IS ALWAYS AN OPINION
Stats ARE facts dude. They happened. They are real. They are indisputable. It is a FACT that on all objective measures of basketball performance in the nba, Jordan rates out higher than Kobe.
Yeah, see, you cant even SAY it, There are no facts that point that michael jordan is a better basketball player than kobe bryant, the facts say hes accomplished more, but not that he's better
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yes, there ARE numreous FACTS. It is a FACT that on all objective measures, MJ beats Kobe. It is a FACT he beats him statistically. It is a FACT he has more accomplishments, accolades, FAR more records, more rings. Now, in the face of all the FACTS, you are still entitlted to your OPINION that Kobe is as good or better, but your opinion is wholly unsupported by the FACTS and REALITY.
STATS are important, but highly overrated, because the stat sheet doesn't show the players impact on the court, the intangibles a player did on a given night, the co-assists, movement without the ball, footwork, defensive pressure, the hustle, yeah every bucket is 2 points, but how did he get the bucket?? was it a layup?? or a tough contested fadeaway jumper?? THESE THINGS don't show up on the STATS SHEET, KOBE is one of the greatest of all time.
Agreed, stats are overrated, but they are the best measure of a player's impact on the game. Regardless, Kobe doesn't top Jordan in ANY area not included on the stat sheet, quite the opposite. Kobe is certainly one of the greatest of all time, but is equally as certainly not on Jordan's level.
Thats where you and I beg to differ my friend, I strongly believe that Kobe has better ballhandling, jumpshooting, footwork, and agility, now with that being said, I AM NOT in anyway belittleing MJ's talent, he as well is great in all these areas, I'd put kobe a tad bit higher though, AND stat are not the best measure, they are the most USED measure, therefore they are overrated, NUMBERS are statistically fact, but never are they a CERTAINTY, meaning they can help predict, but not guarantee.
Yes MJ "statistically" is the best player to ever play the game, and i don't know if he will ever be topped in that regard, nor do i think anyone will achieve more than he did, at least for quite a while, but all these achievements, as great as they are, fall under circumstances based on chance, THE ONLY true way to compare KOBE TO MJ is to actually replace KOBE WITH MJ, kobe would have to play each game with the bulls, and see how he would do under those circumstances.i feel he would be as good
KB has a history of not being a good team player or a good teammate. Thus, you can't plug him into any situation and assume he would win. He is finally learning to play the game the way he should have been playing for the last 12 years.
Of course he has a history of not being a team players, mainly due to the media portraying his image as being "selfish", yet he was top in assists almost every single season, and had more assists to shaq, than any other laker during their years together. I tend not to listen to what people tell me of Kobe, instead i try and see how he manages the game. YES, he is a lot more selfish than jordan, but that alone, does NOT mean Kobe is a selfish player.
Yet even playing with Shaq, Kobe can't match Jordan in assists, or ppg, or rebs, or stls, or blocks, or FG%....getting the picture? Kobe is certainly great, but not on MJ's level.
No, Kobe does not have better ballhandling than MJ, who drove more than KB, yet has a lower TO rate. Kobe is not a better shooter than MJ, within the arch. KB's footwork is great, but so was MJ's. Kobe does NOTHING better than MJ other than shoot 3's. MJ on the other hand, did quite a bit better than Kobe, and that is reflected in performance on the court, as reflected in stats.
AND also, the higher fg% isn't a solid argument, given the fact that MJ tended to attack the rim more, than jumpshooting, and he shot way more mid-range jumpshots, and close-range post shots, Kobe tends to take more mid-range to outside jumpers, which are statistically tougher to do. Therefore, his shooting percentage is not as good as MJ's. And defensively we can't argue, it was easier to defend due to hand-checking, back in the day.
MJ not only beats KB in FG%, playing the same position at the same size, but beats him in True shooting %, and Effective FG%, the triple crown. MJ was simply better at putting the rock in the hole. PLUS MJ had to deal with perimeter handchecking, Kobe does not. MJ GOAT.
Yes I agree, but what I was trying to illustrate is that since MJ took closer shots, and less outside jumpers than Kobe does, his FG% is higher, thus his true FG% is higher as well. The more 3's you take the more likely your FG% is gonna drop. The more layups and dunks you take, the more likely it'll increase, its just basic nature of the sport. I never said MJ wasn't better statistically in fact i admitted he is tops in all catogeries..but you have to take these things into consideration
You are missing the fact that EFG, or Effective FG%, takes 3's into account. Going 2-6 on 3s is the same as going 3-6 on 2s with EFG. Jordan still easily beats Kobe in EFG. As well, the 2nd half of his career, Jordan actually shot outside as much or more than Kobe does. As well, a lower % of Jordan's pts came from the foul line as opposed to Kobe. Any way you slice it, Jordan still wins.
Guess what, attacking the rim and getting the highest % shot possible are smart. Kobe often settles for jumpers, gets lazy, or has the defense dictate the shot he takes. Not so with MJ. MJ got the shot he wanted, part of what makes him better than Kobe. And MJ was obviously a better defensive player than Kobe. MJ won DPOY and MVP, scoring title, steals title in the same year. KB? Nowhere close.
Once again, I have already admitted that MJ is the more fundamentally sound player, the "smarter" player of the 2. Yet raw basketball talent, skillwise, Kobe is the better player. I take nothing away from MJ. If you argue that due to the hand-checking rule change, it is easier to score, then the opposite is true on the defensive end, it is harder for kobe to get those steals today, How can you use this argument for MJ on the offensive end, but contradict it when using it for Kobe on defense?
Well utfanatic2000, you bring some very valid points, unlike most MJ fans, and you know your basketball well, I'll just let things play themselves out, I hope Kobe the best, afterall I realized, who am I to criticize what these guys do on the court, MJ and Kobe both work their butt off to be the best they can be. What they do takes hard work and determination, what I, You, fans, haters, say of them, takes little effort. I personally think there is no true NBA goat, but few NBA GREATS
Thanks man, you seem more educated than the vast majority of mindless Kobe fans as well. I wish KB the best overall, and he is certainly playing at an incredibly high level. I admire KB's talent and effort, and certainly consider him an all time great. I was just fortunate enough to see MJ's entire career as well. He was just better. Enjoy the finals!
TRUE or FALSE. If scoring is easier today than in the jordan era, isn't it harder to defend today also? TRUE, there goes your "who's better defensively" argument. If you can use this logic to favor MJ offensively, why can't you use it to favor Kobe defensively? Everyone knows that Kobe, being the competitor that he is, would have adopted to the rules in the Jordan era, you'd be a fool to say he wouldn't work on making shots while people tried to break his arm and hands off.
And, Kobe is a solid defender even though it's harder for him to defend nowadays. He still leads most players in steals, can defend the best players in the league. Just because he doesn't win an award for it, doesn't make him a bad defender. In fact, many people would argue he should have at least 3 mvps by now, Look at how the league has hesistated to give this guy his due. As much as you say you don't hate kobe, which I believe you don't, you have to admit, he is the most hated player now.
And just because the rules change, doesn't neccessarily mean the refs are gonna get the right call all the time. I've seen many instances where Kobe is hacked just as bad as MJ was, and the foul wasn't called, yet kobe still made the basket. Shoot, i've seen instances where the foul IS called and kobe still finds the way. A rule is nothing more than that, a rule...its gonna be broken at some point. People still harass Kobe time and time again.
NOW, is it MJ's fault Kobe takes more contested shots and long-range jumpers? absolutely not, and for that I give MJ credit, for being more fundamentally sound than Kobe, but at the same token, MJ has the edge since he played in college, where he learned a lot of the game's fundamentals, Kobe jumped outta high school to the pros, and by the time he had elevated his game, he became almost uncoachable, and didn't know as much as MJ at that age, yet he still played terrific ball, and maturing quick
In conclusion, today's Kobe, is the best i have seen, he's really maturing and playing the best basketball i've seen since MJ. He is a threat in every aspect of the game. He can hurt you in a ton of ways, and any given night, he can takeover. I know people want their "era" to be the best. Ask people who are 60-80 years old who the best was, don't be surprised to hear WILT CHAMBERLAIN, When todays teens grow, they'll say Kobe, even if there's someone better in that new era..there's no real GOAT
Kobe is certainly great, and might be the best you have seen, but then, you are only 20. I've been watching NBA ball since 1983. Jordan was simply better than Kobe, as are a few others since 83. In 96, at the 50th anniversary celebration of the nba at the all star great, the vast majority of living nba greats were gathered. 90% said MJ was GOAT. Nuff said.
The only way YOU can say Kobe is as good as Jordan is to point to things that are subjective and immeasurable, such as "talent" or "skill". Yet true "talent" and "skill" is reflected in performance on the court, and there, MJ simply outdid Kobe, but quite a bit. I "know" that Kobe is extremely talented, hardworking, and competitive, but I also "know" that Jordan was better in nearly every possible facet of basketball.
Well i agree to some extent, however just because things are "measurable" doesn't mean they are a certainty. Statistically, Jordan would outscore kobe almost everyday they faced each other, but realistically that isn't a guarantee. Its like an earthquake. Sure you can measure the magnitude, Earthquake MJ might measure 8.9 to Kobe's 7.3, but does that guarantee earthquake MJ caused more damage than KOBE, NO, like i said, this is based on chance and opposition.
Nothing is a "certainty", however, based on all available evidence and dats, there is only one reasonable conclusion: Jordan was better. Kobe is certainly great, but there's no reason to think he is as good or better than MJ.
Sorry kid, I'll continue to post the facts. I know how angry that makes you and how difficult it must be to continue to live in a delusional reality. Face the facts.
So Im saying that Jordan did all that fabolous stuff with less good players competing against him, and i strongly believe that if you put the best Jordan vs the best Kobe 1 on 1, kobe i ll take that. just look at the type of crazy jumpshots he s been making for the last 2 year. With all respect, i ve never seen Jordan shoot or play like that. ONE
Jordan vs. Kobe 1 on 1? Let's see, Jordan was a better penetrator, finisher, quicker hands and feet, better leaper, defender, stronger, smarter, better mid range game, Kobe slightly better long range game, but Kobe is much more inconsistent with his jumper. Kobe would give him a game, but I have no doubt Jordan of 86-93 would take Kobe of any age...
Hey man, thanks for the comment. Kobe did play really well in the playoffs that season, but Jordan has had far better playoff seasons. We can compare playoff seasons Kobe vs. Jordan if you'd like....
Actually, that can sometimes help a player to focus on the task at hand. If the court can be seen as a refuge, and the world outside as an enemy, it sometimes becomes easier to pour your all into the game and focus. Jordan said similar things after the death of his father.

the only reson lakers did not win in 2004 was because malone was hurt and his replacement luke had to defend ben and payton was too much ballhuging
lordg17 2 years ago 34
Yeah I agree. Malone's injury definitely cost us the championship.
mamba9381 2 years ago 18
Plus Phil put too much faith in Malone and Payton. Malone was hurt and Payton was too stupid to learn the triangle offense. But Phil, as usual, felt committed to the vets and road them too long. They should have played Fish, Rick Fox, etc. more. Regardless with Malone down and Horry gone we were very limited at the 4 position and Sheed made us pay.
Autonomy07 2 years ago 2

Jordan GOAT.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago
bill russell had more ring than jordan, more mvp's, so what? is he a better player? NO.
and numbers is not everything. Kobe is just more talented player than Michael, end of story.
FMEGAIIIOI 2 years ago
It's about how many rings the player LED the team to, as well as stats, accomplishments, mvps, finals mvps, records, rings, and impact on the game. Jordan beats Kobe in every respect. Kobe is definitely not more talented than MJ. If he is, he sure hides it well. lol. Jordan GOAT. Kobe top 12-15 all time.
utfanatic2000 2 years ago
top 12-15 all time??????????? are you kidding me?
he is right there with Michael.
FMEGAIIIOI 2 years ago
No he isn't. MJ went 6 for 6 in finals with 6 finals mvps, 5 mvps, 10 scoring titles, better stats, more records, won DPOY, and was simply better. Don't overrate Kobe. Bill Simmons ranks him #15 in his new book. SLAM magazine ranked Kobe #12 in their top 50 of all time last June. Nobody of consequence has Kobe ranked much higher if at all.
utfanatic2000 2 years ago
i dont give a shit about simmons and slam magazine, and numbers/stats isnt everything. Kobe is the most talented player in nba history. period.
FMEGAIIIOI 1 year ago

He's top 12-15 all time.
utfanatic2000 1 year ago
ok thats still another persons opinion and i want to work in sports and thats all i do is research and study the nba and its history honestly. i think kobe bryant is top 10 ever because he has plenty of individual accolades to back up his greatness im not saying hes better than mj. mj set the standard of basketball greatness and it will never be or can be duplicated but with all that kobe has accomplished and what he will accomplish it is safe to put him in the top 10
Afrothunnda18 1 year ago
Of course it's all opinion, but these are opinions based on facts. I've been watching and playing ball since the 80s. Kobe simply needs to LEAD a team to another ring, get another finals mvp, and improve his stats a bit to be considered higher. If he LEADS the lakers to another ring this year, he'll be top 10, for sure, but right now, he's borderline. I can respect maybe having him right at #10, although I disagree with that, but nothing higher.
utfanatic2000 1 year ago
@utfanatic2000 borderline?
go back and watch Kobe games from 00-03 or every year for that matter. that MAN is the MAN among Men. Kobe is so Sick is disgusting.
reneperezz 1 year ago
@reneperezz Hey man. Yeah, Kobe is borderline top 10 at best...for now. He has the potential to move up. I can tell you are a fan of his. I'm not, but I recognize his greatness. He doesn't stand out from his peers, and is no longer the best player in the game. Looking at all the evidence: stats, accomplishments, skill, versatility, mvps, finals mvps, dpoy awards, records, rings, and impact on the game, Kobe is definitely not ahead of those guys in the top 7 or 8, and probaly not 10 or 11.
utfanatic2000 1 year ago
No, Simmons now ranks him as breaking into top 10 after he won his 4th title last year. And coming from a Boston homer like him, that says something. Just face the fact that he's top 10 all time, and will possible break into the top 5 by the time his career is over. He'll never be better or accomplish more than Jordan or Russel, but nobody will.
masterdeviance1985 1 year ago
Show me where Simmons now ranks him top 10. Kobe simply can't be GOAT. He's great, but Jordan was just better.
utfanatic2000 1 year ago
Youtube doesn't allow links to be posted, but google "bill simmons kobe change", and read the first linked Simmons article that shows (dated 6/19/09). The exact quote:
"That fourth title propelled him into the top 10 and yanked the 'Can't win without Shaq' monkey off his back"
And it's not just Jordan that was better. Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Magic and Bird easily outrank Kobe as well...for now.
masterdeviance1985 1 year ago

Now shut the fuck up and go back to watching cartoons.
masterdeviance1985 1 year ago
@masterdeviance1985 Come on man you know in your heart that Kobe is already better than all of them other than maybe Magic and MJ. and when his career is over he will be the BEST EVER.
and its obvious he is more talented and skilled then all of them put together.....
reneperezz 1 year ago
@reneperezz If you're basing greatness based solely on highlights, I can tell you Jordan, Kareem, Wilt, Bird and Magic all have equally amazing highlights that you can find on youtube.
But if you're going to base it on statistics and how much the player contributed to his team's success, then those 5 are clearly superior to Kobe at this point in his career. I'm not saying he can't crack the top 5 by the time he retires, but he's clearly not there yet...and knowledgeable NBA fans will agree.

rdotpatterson 1 year ago
@rdotpatterson It comes down to efficiency. Kobe can hit some amazing shots, but he misses a hell of alot of them as well. And when he does, he takes the whole team badly out of rhythm. Him winning his 5th ring will help his legacy for sure, but Jordan would NEVER have missed 18 outta 24 shots taken in a Finals game (let alone a game 7). He's a top 10 all time without a doubt though, and if he wins 1 or 2 more rings he'll keep climbing the list...
masterdeviance1985 1 year ago
@masterdeviance1985 i watched a game on msg the other night mj vs the knicks he had a shitty game kobe did have a shitty game 7 but a huge reason why the lakers won was because kobe grabbed 15 rebounds and had 10 points in the 4th but i can live with him being top 10 all time hes not even close to done hes only 31
rdotpatterson 1 year ago
@rdotpatterson Just to be clear, I think Kobe is the greatest player of his generation. And like you said, he's not even 32 yet (although he has way more miles on his legs than other 31/32 yr old NBA players). I just don't think he matches Jordan in terms of offensive efficiency and consistency. When Kobe gets hot, it usually makes his teammates passive bystanders. Jordan Kareem Bird and Magic were just a bit better at knowing how to get hot within the overall flow of their team's offense.

deadfresh10 1 year ago
@rdotpatterson I already acknowledged that Kobe makes some incredible shots. But Michael shot 54% twice in his career. Playing the same position against weaker defenders in an era where you CANNOT BY RULE be as physical, Kobe has never shot as much as 48%. Do you realize how much more efficient 6% per year just on shooting makes a player? Jordan never would have taken the kind of crappy shots Kobe took in Game 7 of this year's Finals. The Lakers won in SPITE of Kobe that game, not because of him
masterdeviance1985 1 year ago 5
@masterdeviance1985 yea im not saying kobes better i know jordans number 1 but to say kobe shouldnt be mentioned in the same sentence is like saying kobes not even close which he is by far the closest to jordan and no1 in the nba now is even close to kobe

thug8200 1 year ago
@masterdeviance1985 If we're going to judge by just FG% Jordan took pretty crappy shots in the '96 finals as well as the '98 finals. But you have to look at things in context. In that game 7, everyone besides Fisher and KG shot poorly. In spite of having an off night shooting wise, Kobe found another way to help his team win with rebounding, defense and getting to the line. That's what great players like Kobe and Jordan do.

Don't overrate him.
utfanatic2000 4 years ago
if were looking at only ambiguous talent, hes number one or two
caliplaya818 4 years ago
That's the point, if you are looking at "ambiguous" talent, it is AMBIGUOUS where he ranks, because you can't quantify or measure talent. So while it may be your opinion that Kobe is as talented as anyone who has ever played, someone's opinion who thinks Kobe isn't nearly that talented is worth just as much. Because it's completely subjective. That's why you look to objective measures.

yes, there ARE numreous FACTS. It is a FACT that on all objective measures, MJ beats Kobe. It is a FACT he beats him statistically. It is a FACT he has more accomplishments, accolades, FAR more records, more rings. Now, in the face of all the FACTS, you are still entitlted to your OPINION that Kobe is as good or better, but your opinion is wholly unsupported by the FACTS and REALITY.
utfanatic2000 4 years ago
STATS are important, but highly overrated, because the stat sheet doesn't show the players impact on the court, the intangibles a player did on a given night, the co-assists, movement without the ball, footwork, defensive pressure, the hustle, yeah every bucket is 2 points, but how did he get the bucket?? was it a layup?? or a tough contested fadeaway jumper?? THESE THINGS don't show up on the STATS SHEET, KOBE is one of the greatest of all time.
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
Agreed, stats are overrated, but they are the best measure of a player's impact on the game. Regardless, Kobe doesn't top Jordan in ANY area not included on the stat sheet, quite the opposite. Kobe is certainly one of the greatest of all time, but is equally as certainly not on Jordan's level.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago
Thats where you and I beg to differ my friend, I strongly believe that Kobe has better ballhandling, jumpshooting, footwork, and agility, now with that being said, I AM NOT in anyway belittleing MJ's talent, he as well is great in all these areas, I'd put kobe a tad bit higher though, AND stat are not the best measure, they are the most USED measure, therefore they are overrated, NUMBERS are statistically fact, but never are they a CERTAINTY, meaning they can help predict, but not guarantee.
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
Yes MJ "statistically" is the best player to ever play the game, and i don't know if he will ever be topped in that regard, nor do i think anyone will achieve more than he did, at least for quite a while, but all these achievements, as great as they are, fall under circumstances based on chance, THE ONLY true way to compare KOBE TO MJ is to actually replace KOBE WITH MJ, kobe would have to play each game with the bulls, and see how he would do under those circumstances.i feel he would be as good
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
KB has a history of not being a good team player or a good teammate. Thus, you can't plug him into any situation and assume he would win. He is finally learning to play the game the way he should have been playing for the last 12 years.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago
Of course he has a history of not being a team players, mainly due to the media portraying his image as being "selfish", yet he was top in assists almost every single season, and had more assists to shaq, than any other laker during their years together. I tend not to listen to what people tell me of Kobe, instead i try and see how he manages the game. YES, he is a lot more selfish than jordan, but that alone, does NOT mean Kobe is a selfish player.
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
Yet even playing with Shaq, Kobe can't match Jordan in assists, or ppg, or rebs, or stls, or blocks, or FG%....getting the picture? Kobe is certainly great, but not on MJ's level.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago 2
No, Kobe does not have better ballhandling than MJ, who drove more than KB, yet has a lower TO rate. Kobe is not a better shooter than MJ, within the arch. KB's footwork is great, but so was MJ's. Kobe does NOTHING better than MJ other than shoot 3's. MJ on the other hand, did quite a bit better than Kobe, and that is reflected in performance on the court, as reflected in stats.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago
AND also, the higher fg% isn't a solid argument, given the fact that MJ tended to attack the rim more, than jumpshooting, and he shot way more mid-range jumpshots, and close-range post shots, Kobe tends to take more mid-range to outside jumpers, which are statistically tougher to do. Therefore, his shooting percentage is not as good as MJ's. And defensively we can't argue, it was easier to defend due to hand-checking, back in the day.
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
MJ not only beats KB in FG%, playing the same position at the same size, but beats him in True shooting %, and Effective FG%, the triple crown. MJ was simply better at putting the rock in the hole. PLUS MJ had to deal with perimeter handchecking, Kobe does not. MJ GOAT.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago

Any way you slice it, Jordan still wins.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago
Guess what, attacking the rim and getting the highest % shot possible are smart. Kobe often settles for jumpers, gets lazy, or has the defense dictate the shot he takes. Not so with MJ. MJ got the shot he wanted, part of what makes him better than Kobe. And MJ was obviously a better defensive player than Kobe. MJ won DPOY and MVP, scoring title, steals title in the same year. KB? Nowhere close.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago
Once again, I have already admitted that MJ is the more fundamentally sound player, the "smarter" player of the 2. Yet raw basketball talent, skillwise, Kobe is the better player. I take nothing away from MJ. If you argue that due to the hand-checking rule change, it is easier to score, then the opposite is true on the defensive end, it is harder for kobe to get those steals today, How can you use this argument for MJ on the offensive end, but contradict it when using it for Kobe on defense?
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
Raw talent? No, Kobe does not have more. Go watch film of Jordan's early years, he could do anything, and do it far more efficiently than Kobe does.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago
Well utfanatic2000, you bring some very valid points, unlike most MJ fans, and you know your basketball well, I'll just let things play themselves out, I hope Kobe the best, afterall I realized, who am I to criticize what these guys do on the court, MJ and Kobe both work their butt off to be the best they can be. What they do takes hard work and determination, what I, You, fans, haters, say of them, takes little effort. I personally think there is no true NBA goat, but few NBA GREATS
raiderthugg14 3 years ago

Everyone knows that Kobe, being the competitor that he is, would have adopted to the rules in the Jordan era, you'd be a fool to say he wouldn't work on making shots while people tried to break his arm and hands off.
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
And, Kobe is a solid defender even though it's harder for him to defend nowadays. He still leads most players in steals, can defend the best players in the league. Just because he doesn't win an award for it, doesn't make him a bad defender. In fact, many people would argue he should have at least 3 mvps by now, Look at how the league has hesistated to give this guy his due. As much as you say you don't hate kobe, which I believe you don't, you have to admit, he is the most hated player now.
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
And just because the rules change, doesn't neccessarily mean the refs are gonna get the right call all the time. I've seen many instances where Kobe is hacked just as bad as MJ was, and the foul wasn't called, yet kobe still made the basket. Shoot, i've seen instances where the foul IS called and kobe still finds the way. A rule is nothing more than that, a rule...its gonna be broken at some point. People still harass Kobe time and time again.
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
NOW, is it MJ's fault Kobe takes more contested shots and long-range jumpers? absolutely not, and for that I give MJ credit, for being more fundamentally sound than Kobe, but at the same token, MJ has the edge since he played in college, where he learned a lot of the game's fundamentals, Kobe jumped outta high school to the pros, and by the time he had elevated his game, he became almost uncoachable, and didn't know as much as MJ at that age, yet he still played terrific ball, and maturing quick
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
In conclusion, today's Kobe, is the best i have seen, he's really maturing and playing the best basketball i've seen since MJ. He is a threat in every aspect of the game. He can hurt you in a ton of ways, and any given night, he can takeover. I know people want their "era" to be the best. Ask people who are 60-80 years old who the best was, don't be surprised to hear WILT CHAMBERLAIN, When todays teens grow, they'll say Kobe, even if there's someone better in that new era..there's no real GOAT
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
Agreed, Kobe might be better skills wise than MJ
jetballer2 3 years ago
Kobe is certainly great, and might be the best you have seen, but then, you are only 20. I've been watching NBA ball since 1983. Jordan was simply better than Kobe, as are a few others since 83. In 96, at the 50th anniversary celebration of the nba at the all star great, the vast majority of living nba greats were gathered. 90% said MJ was GOAT. Nuff said.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago
The only way YOU can say Kobe is as good as Jordan is to point to things that are subjective and immeasurable, such as "talent" or "skill". Yet true "talent" and "skill" is reflected in performance on the court, and there, MJ simply outdid Kobe, but quite a bit. I "know" that Kobe is extremely talented, hardworking, and competitive, but I also "know" that Jordan was better in nearly every possible facet of basketball.
utfanatic2000 4 years ago
Well i agree to some extent, however just because things are "measurable" doesn't mean they are a certainty. Statistically, Jordan would outscore kobe almost everyday they faced each other, but realistically that isn't a guarantee. Its like an earthquake. Sure you can measure the magnitude, Earthquake MJ might measure 8.9 to Kobe's 7.3, but does that guarantee earthquake MJ caused more damage than KOBE, NO, like i said, this is based on chance and opposition.
raiderthugg14 3 years ago
Nothing is a "certainty", however, based on all available evidence and dats, there is only one reasonable conclusion: Jordan was better. Kobe is certainly great, but there's no reason to think he is as good or better than MJ.
utfanatic2000 3 years ago
Utfanatic, seriously shut the fuck up. Kobe is the shit. Take your calculator and stat book back to computer class.

Sorry kid, I'll continue to post the facts. I know how angry that makes you and how difficult it must be to continue to live in a delusional reality. Face the facts.
utfanatic2000 4 years ago
So Im saying that Jordan did all that fabolous stuff with less good players competing against him, and i strongly believe that if you put the best Jordan vs the best Kobe 1 on 1, kobe i ll take that. just look at the type of crazy jumpshots he s been making for the last 2 year. With all respect, i ve never seen Jordan shoot or play like that. ONE
Lakehode 4 years ago
Well if that's what you are saying, you are wrong. Jordan played in an era with more hall of famers than any other. Educate yourself.
utfanatic2000 4 years ago
Jordan vs. Kobe 1 on 1? Let's see, Jordan was a better penetrator, finisher, quicker hands and feet, better leaper, defender, stronger, smarter, better mid range game, Kobe slightly better long range game, but Kobe is much more inconsistent with his jumper. Kobe would give him a game, but I have no doubt Jordan of 86-93 would take Kobe of any age...
utfanatic2000 4 years ago
Kobe of 24 and coming off a rape charge would beat Jordan. Just check Kobe's stats in the playoffs of the rape charge season.
clutchcity25 4 years ago
Hey man, thanks for the comment. Kobe did play really well in the playoffs that season, but Jordan has had far better playoff seasons. We can compare playoff seasons Kobe vs. Jordan if you'd like....
utfanatic2000 4 years ago
no problem. I was just saying Kobe from Game 1 played better in this series because the WORLD and everyone was on his back.
clutchcity25 4 years ago
Actually, that can sometimes help a player to focus on the task at hand. If the court can be seen as a refuge, and the world outside as an enemy, it sometimes becomes easier to pour your all into the game and focus. Jordan said similar things after the death of his father.

Kobe played the spurs numerous times AND HAS DOMINATED. Example:
Games 3 and 4 of the 2002 WCF Semifinal
31 points in each game. Most of them in the 4th
quarter
2003 WCF semifinal. Kobe had 39 and 7 rebounds in game 3
Game 4 he had 37 and 5 assists: Both of them were wins.
Game 1 of this series: 31 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals
He's got somethin special for Bruce Bowen, Manu Ginobili, and the spurs and you know it.
