  • Why is the dampeningthing bothering people? All that matters is that is sounds good, wether you do it by using a hairpiece or go do it with their right hand (which he can do btw, I've seen it) doesn't matter. The only important thing is that it sounds good. Technique is means to an end, not the end. In the end, it's all about the music, you should play whatever you hear in your head. If you're capable of that, you're technique is fine! Any musician will tell you that! Its no contest you know..

  • Greg Howe is one of my favorite guitar players and he has a great bicep :)

  • tapping level - asian

  • Greg Howe kicks ass, love his music. The Pepper Shake is my favorite song from his debut cd.

  • Awesome Greg Howe is the man!!!!!!

  • Minnemann should have been the new drummer for Dream Theater :(

  • great player!

  • greg howe without doubt the most sick guitarist. next to guthrie and tom quayle etc

  • this is GREG HOWE!!!!!!

  • Marco is awesome :D

  • Now that's innovation!

  • Greg and Billy together!! I grew up during the ´90s with that album, and it still amazes me, freaks me out!!! Best musicians in the planet after Mozart and Beethoven... Keep it up guys!!!

  • should larry let my comment's trough i apologize to steve hubbard ur actually defend greg it was the recall guy so nevermind !!once again larry we all should respect ur awesome postings and not engage in those little arguments!

  • Greg Howe is a great musician and i would love to have the talent that he has. Keep up the great work Greg!!!!

  • Awesome!!! Greg, You`re guitar monster!!!!!!:-)

  • This is the dream team!!!

    My Master greg howe!!!

  • i was front row for this, greg howe is unreal and an extremeley friendly guy

  • As always Greg... Killer!

  • Besides all that coments made, Its not that easy to use a dampener and it doesn't cover that much, you always have to have the right technique and speed to put the dampener or take it off, for any of you who thinks using a dampener is cheating try using it and puting it on your fretboard just when you are about to play a difficult lick, specially in a song like jump start for example wich never stops for a rest!

  • Great band,i enjoyed it. Keep making good music.

  • Pretty darn impressive...especially the drummer...gotta love that little moment after 5:10 mark....especially Greg's reaction to the band!

  • Don't you just love the fact that there is always some idiot giving a "thumbs down" to a kick ass video, just for no other reason than being an idiot?

  • the song he play in the front of the video is call "the pepper shake" which is from his

    first album "Greg Howe"

the groove and band performance in this video is much better than the studio album(which is just my thought)

what a player ! Master Greg Howe !!!

  • I went home on friday night.... i was bored.. of everything.... and I never thought that I was going to find this vid; watching my favorite guitar player, with the drummer of my other favorite guitar player and the bassist of two of my favorite guitar players...

  • Is it only shredders that come to MI?

  • love the melody in this tune!

  • greg master!

  • Is Billy using the Line 6 Relay wireless here?

  • i love watching marco drum....he makes funny faces :D. Also love watching howe and sheehan of course

  • @skleung .... and there funny faces? Lol

  • Wow this guys are the best!!!

Please upload the whole concert!!!!! XD

  • not as clean as back in the day, but still amazing!

  • Don't you just love all these positive, love filled comments? Lol.....Me? I'm thrilled to see an AC30 on the same stage as these crazy guys.

  • @fendermac Hahaha agreed, sir. It's great to see Jude up there with a Strat and an AC30 that looks more at home with the Beatles than on stage with these nutters.

  • @fendermac I think you did not see Greg's fractal audio system at the right of Minnemann ;)

  • I have to say greg is a sloppy player and from the looks of him willing to use a dampener he doesn't want to improve...and become a cleaner player.

  • @recall34 i think he was having an off day.. a string dampener doesn't make playing any easier, btw

  • @SteveHubbardGuitar i am perfectly aware what a string dampener does, it muffles out open ringing strings from sloppy playing.where did i say it makes playing easier??

  • @recall34 I think you're mistaken.. how many elite 'tappers' do you know of, that don't use a string dampener..

"he doesn't want to improve" is the comment I'm aiming this at

  • @SteveHubbardGuitar yes he should improve and not rely on a crutch.you are just gonna have to deal with my opinion about greg howe being a sloppy player.btw this isn't the first vid I've seen of him and i do like his music. My original statement stands.as far as dimarzio players that comes to mind as elite tappers is chris broddrick, he doesnt use a crutch and he uses alot, alot more gain...

  • @recall34 from my exp. more gain makes it easier to tap because there's more compression; tapping is easier and thus you're able to pay more attention to muting the strings rather than the actual tapping itself. in the end you either hate or love the hairband cos to me the natural vibrations from the other strings adds to the tone. if it makes the music better then i see no problem with the hairband but to each his own i guess

  • @recall34 So i'm guessing anybody who uses a dampener is a sloppy player. Right? Guthrie Govan, Michael Angelo Batio, John Petrucci, Andy James, and Shawn Lane. They ALL used dampeners either in the studio or live at one point or another.

  • @recall34 Oh, bollocks.

  • @recall34 Not everyone can mute the strings effectively with their palm when doing cross string and string skipping style tapping licks.. Obviously there are guys that can do it, like Michael Romeo.. but some guys can't do it as effectively as others, and instead of amplifying a weakness, you do what works.

  • @JSGayMusic There's also another thing to say. If it wasn't for Greg Howe and other players of his era, there wouldn't be people who could do it cleanly. There is room for improvement in Greg's technique, but then again, he helped us get there, so I don't see how him using a dampener is a problem.

  • @panamanian911 thats true but dam hes a phenomanul player a genius he makes fusion so melodic =] and his rythym dam

  • @recall34 what you also can't tell in this video is that his amp was LOUD that day.. his cabinet's facing the back wall of the stage because he had that thing dimed... I'd like to see anyone have a great deal of control while playing through a tube amp cranked all the way up. It's not an easy thing to achieve.

  • @recall34 if ur a guitar player, you'd know there is always excess string noise either from the other unwanted string vibrations or vibration from behind a plucked string. These vibrations can be muted with the right hand, but it is difficult to mute when your right hand is busy jumping around the fretboard tapping. using a dampener does not mean you are a sloppy player, and pros use it all the time

  • @recall34 . with this being said, i guess ur right. greg was a tiny bit sloppy at the tapping section. ps. i did not realize many other ppl have already replied to ur comment. not trying to troll or anything

  • @recall34 tell you what, make a youtube video playing greg howe's songs and dont use a dampener, and show us how much of a pro you are and he isn't

  • BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ..................................................................

  • Oh man, I go to MI, wish I'd have known about this.

  • @Goth3m3 how did you not? They advertised it for months
