  • So to compute how long you'll live:

Life Span = 800 Million / Heart Rate

  • This is why us couche potatoes are destined to rule the Earth. XD

  • Did they attach a camera to the fucking zebra??

  • i heard if you eat half the calories but enough to fulfill yourself you could life a long time

  • @litojonny nah that would lead to bad health and weakened immune systems but if you mean the average american half the calories is still over the recommended lol

  • @tagurit2 You watch videos with your fingers? Cool. I have to use my eyes. Sucks.

  • @RobbyArt You know my friend using eyes are way to mainstream... tagurit2 is just a hipster

  • I wonder if this works for reptiles as well. . .

  • so basically, life-span comes down to the efficiency of flesh; the design of the heart can only sustain 800mill beats before it stops working. Neat idea of flesh as a material

  • hah, so elephants arent afraid of mice

  • how do they get these shots?

  • 2:00

  • so the heart has an expiration date?

  • How about I don't exercise, does that make me live longer haha

  • This is misleading. Lifespan is limited to optimize evolution process of population, there must be new generations to have new genetic combinations, to have new generations in a habitat with limited resources old ones need to die. cells can reproduce infinitely, the limit is artificially planted there. If such cell division limit really did exist a new born could not survive either, since it is actually a part of the mother...

  • @utkua since aging is not actually have anything to do with "getting old", you cannot extend your lifespan by not using your body.

  • 1:28 "Large slow animals have longer lives than small fast animals. But they tend to have a similar number of heartbeats."

    What?

:40 "The elephant's heart beats just 25 times a minute. The heart of the elephant shrew whirs 800 times per minute."

    Huh...that's some...contradicting information there, BBC.

  • @jmr1068204

Yeah. Before they die. The elephant shrew reaches 800 million heartbeats faster than an elephant. Therefore it dies faster.

  • @jmr1068204 which is why the elephant lives longer, it takes about 60 years to reach 800million heart beat. and takes the elephant shrew less time to reach 800million heart beat as it beast 800times a minute

    .

  • @IntellegentNGR But who can use a creature's "size" to determine the exact number of heartbeats that they will be alive based on that number? No one knows that information...it sounds pretty dumb.

  • @jmr1068204 it's not exact but i'm skeptical of science too. srry :D

  • So meditation is GREAT for your health.

  • I believe that run was much more stressful for the zebra than for the lion.

  • aren't sports are healthy? bigger amount of heart bits ill strengthen ur heart isn't it?

  • @shaolindude1

Yeah, but your body well also wear out. I think the key is MODERATION when doing sports. But even more: correct diet.

  • @hector0282

Jese! Why did I have to read this on halloween?

  • Just like our mechanical cars, our body parts have a mileage on them too. Amazing

  • Awww, the shrew looks so cute.

  • So conclusion is: you can either live a short exciting life, or a long boring life.

And this is also why I hate working, and spend my life on youtube. I will live forever.

  • @munkbusiness No you won't! Remember, you slightly damage your fingers when you type and scroll with the mouse.

  • twilight

  • Bloody zebras, why don't they come in cans!

  • Lion in the matrix!

  • okay that has confused me... I thought more exercising and working out makes you fitter and live longer.

  • okay thats pretty wild imgination you have... you should also control it, may be it raises your heartbeat too and reduces your life...

  • Thats cause our bodies aren't built for leisure, it stresses them out in ways they're not used to.

Now an animal that IS built for leisure, like a tortoise, that's different.

  • many people who were fit and healthy as young adults grow to have muscle problems, back problems etc when they stop doing exercise from the stress caused by it.

  • It's not similar to exercising. It's the matter of life or death to the lions (if they can't get a zebra, they'll die of starvation). Some people exercise like that and most of them will also die young. Because both the lions and the zebras have to run for their lives everyday, I would expect the lifespans of them are similar. But the reality is the zebras can live a little longer than a lion. I think maybe because they're vegetarians.

  • I would think that's actually close to right. There's a fine balance between reducing calories and starvation, exercising to reduce blood pressure and heart rate, improving metabolic rate, increasing lung capacity and destroying your body. A lot of the endurance runners and jogaholics I saw growing up, now look weather beaten and aged. On the other hand my sedentary, overweight diabetic Father-in-law actually looks pretty good but his body is not functioning well.

  • So if I want to live a long time, I should quit jogging?

  • On the contrary. A joggers heart usually beat at a much lower rate when at rest.

  • Only when I'm not jogging. When I do, I use up all my heartbeats ;-)

  • lol

  • Wait, if elephant shrews are so fast, why did it almost get stepped on at 1:12 ?

  • because she didn't know he foot was going to go down so it stop when she saw it then when he pick it up he move lol there funny when they started moving fast

  • When you sleep, your body slows down. So, I guess it's back to sleep for me.

  • Very nice and educational vid.

    Claudia

  • lol, RightOn!

  • How abt stress in ur eyes mate!!

  • the zebras ass is so heavy thts y it cnt run

  • fat ass zebra

  • the zebra makes sounds like a donkey

  • Key is, Take it easy

  • Splat the mouse.

  • So Basically Live Like An Elephant. Slow Steady And Relaxed. ITS THE KEY TOO LONG LIFE!

    Hehe.

    Jokes =]

  • wow thats interesting !!
