I hear alot about how the TV series was better than the movie and the movie screwed up this and that or just screw up. I've seen the TVseries and I do think it's a little better, but I also think the movie did a very good job at not only bringing the vision to the big screen but also adapting the series into something that is acceptable for general audiences. although i think they could have done a little better with the dialog, but if it was a direct adaptation then it wouldn't be for everyone

The TV series was much better than this more recent movie version. This version really screwed up the part about the turning on ceremony of the computer called Deep Thought.

I read enough about the movie that I knew not to even bother seeing it. Apparently, they removed many of Adams' best jokes. Sad.

Oh I wouldn't say that. He wrote most of it, and a lot of his spirit is kept in the film, the sofa gag, the guns, the guide entries are exactly the same. A lot of visual elements like the vogons run along the lines of an Adamish joke, the crushed up characters of politicians.
