If you get desperate enough, you can also modify your User Agent via Perl using the LWP::UserAgent module. LWP provides some really nice customization options...

Why would you want to spoof your user agent?

Some websites allow certain robots / user agents into restricted areas so things can get spidered and updated.

If you spoof your user agent, you may be able to see sensitive information on a certain website; given you know the instance and required user agent.
