  • nice car

  • How do you keep a model smoothed when rendering? Cuz my polygons become unsmoothed.

  • Cool. Looks better than the one I made =)

  • how do you make the grill please.. please help me.. i dont have idea on how to make one.. do i have to start on nurb curves and convert it to poly or something?? please help me

  • @HawxTeamDelta I just did it with standard poly modelling. Extruding them along and repositioning each of the vertices as I go.

  • how do you get that clean white look. What shaders do you use?

  • ho do you make the shadows at botton of car?

  • how did you the car? with some scanned imaged or to full hand pulse?

  • Cement car.

  • the car is naturally awesome.

  • Free and good.

  • free and modeling software :p

  • what are some good free modeling software?

  • bender:P

  • Pro!

  • GRAPH EDITOR...

  • how do you make this car?>

  • with maya^^

  • Thanks for your directions on rendering. Most helpful.

  • Nice modeling!

But it seems a bit short, don't you think?

  • Thats how audi makes their cars.

  • Nah, for some reason the actual R8 is a bit longer... Trust me, I see them on the street all the time.

Maybe the aspect ratio of the video was changed slightly during rendering or conversion on YouTube...

  • khdownes1 what books you recommend that help you get the best knowledge and learning the basics more effectively of maya. nice job.....on the modeling.

  • can u send me the link i cant find anywhere to download it

  • Hi i was wondering if this car has textures and maybe an interior.

I would love to import this model into Test Drive Unlimited.

I have already put a BMW Z4 into Test Drive and would love to put this in.

If you could contact me by either reply or PM then i would be grateful thanks.

  • wow with color that car would look sooo realistic

  • what material/shader did you use to get that matted clay-like look. Did you render with Mental Ray GI AND Final Gather?

  • Looks like the default shader for maya to me.

  • nice modelling do you advise using a book off say amazon to learn this program because im pretty much trying to learn off tutorials and they seem to be getting me nowhere i need the real real basics explaining layout tools etc

  • I've bought books in the past for various programs and I always find I always lose interest in them and never get past page 5.

Do you have any friends that know Maya at all? I'd say that is your best bet.

Once you have figured out the absolute basics of Maya modelling (extruding edges, inserting edge loops, joining vertices, using image planes) you're pretty much set to create almost anything you want.

  • thanks yeah i did buy a book but im on page 4 so big flop there, but ill get there ! :P thanks for advice

  • how do i render with that quality? plug ins? any websites?

  • Render of this was super simple.

I use Mental ray to render. Turned on Final Gathering, changed the camera background colour to white and added a single directional light from above at an angle with a really low intensity (like 0.185 or something)and raytrace shadows with a light angle of 8 or something.

  • @JinXuanJun Mental ray Ambient Occlusion Shader, no need for turning on FG etc when applying this shader :)

  • @JinXuanJun do an ambient occlusion render. go into hypershade and create a surface shader under the maya render nodes. then under the mental ray tab in hypershade create an ambient occlusion node and plug it into the the surface shader node. it should go into the default option. then double click on the occlusion node and in the attribute editor and set the samples to 64. make the white colour chip a really light grey.

now apply the surface shader to the model.

  • @JinXuanJun also ambient occlusion render pass is really good to use

  • did u use nurbs or polygons which one is easier for making a car. cuz im having a lot of trouble with the finer details on my polygon supra like windows and were the hood ends before the windsheild

  • Used polygons, I pretty much never use nurbs, I feel like I have way more control over exactly what I'm doing with poplys.

Some bits get tricky, but that's the whole fun of modelling stuff in 3D; all the problem solving and stuff.

  • how do you render an animation

  • I also want to make this! You have the plus side view? You may give me some material?

  • i just got one question. for all the little dents and stuff, did you extrude the faces in or did u use the sculpt tool?

  • I modelled each car panel separately (I just prefer to do it that way, as opposed to modelling the whole car and splitting the faces), left a gap between each panel and extruded the edges of the panels back.

Then bevelled the edges, or course.

  • im about to start working on a plane soon.

do u think it'd be better if i do the parts separately or as one?

(the planes im making are the B-2 Spirit and the B-1 Lancer)

  • They both seem to be mostly seamless/one piece anyway, especially the B-2.

Um, for the B-2 I'd personally start off by creating a plane, with say 10 divisions or something, position it along the front of the wing shape, then start extruding the edges backwards, whenever yo reach a detail in the surface, continue extruding the edges up and around the detail to form it.

I don't know whether that makes any sense, but that's just the way I prefer to do it.

  • thanks.

  • nice!

  • very nice!

  • Ah, the worlds coolest car ;-)

I see enough of these driving around every day, but the R8 still can't bore me =D

  • ah... bugati is faster.... and i lke em better... hahahaha

  • Awesome choice of car! 5/5

  • you work un gt 5 ?? jajaja good job

  • nice work man keep going ..:)

  • awesome modelling dude!!!

check my maya 7 video hope you like it =]

  • how much is maya? or shud i get 3ds max. which is worth shelling out hundreds of dollars for?

  • My tip is; find a torrent, download and crack them both, try them both out to see which one you like. Then, if/when you enter the professional field, purchase a copy of the software.

I don't like condoning piracy, but with how ridiculously expensive this software is, you just can't afford to just randomly buy one and hope that it's right for you.

  • We have TRIAL versions for this!

  • can you make a tutorial on this, its amazing

  • MAYA! Definetely maya, now the unlimited version, is only 5000 dollars, it sed to be lik 7 or 8 :O And Maya is much better than 3ds Max.

  • try downloading the maya PLE (personal learning edition)

  • Maya 8.5

  • nice.
