  • You cant be a graphic designer in 1 day, you become a graphic designer in few years, u must like it, u must love it. and the most important thing that you need to have imagination. Ah and yeah , you need a degree to become an awesome designer. A piece of paper doesnt mean u are a pro desginer.

  • That's just stupid. Being a graphic designer is about talent, passion and creativity. Not about education and degrees.

  • Its actually a little crazy how out dated this video is, I'll be making an updated version soon.

  • noob village

  • What percentage of that 100 word essay was "um"?

  • if you have a COMPUTER SCIENCE DEGREE can you become a graphic designer with that ?

  • Colleges and Universities are just for getting basic knowledge but it doesn't neccesarily mean that you would get the job in the end. It's all in the experience that you have, some self study, and try to be creative with your own style of your designs in order to get your career (in any art field).

  • You do not need a degree to become a graphic designer, ive been the lead graphic designer for a major firm for over four years and i have no degree. you just have to be able to do the job and do it well. make a portfolio of your work even if there fake websites/logos or just ideas, and submit them as a resume,as long as you know the adobe software you'll be alright.

  • SHE DID NOT GET A DEGREE! lmfao

How can a turd like this saying "umm" every 6 seconds be educated...She doesn't understand her own life for christ sake loosen up. Go get drunk or have sex, you might not be so uptight hah

  • This person is not a designer, just look at her office. Designing business cards for chiropractic companies in villages is 'graphic design' , but not Graphic Design. So, if I paint giant signs for people's yards to put out for birthdays, then I can say I am a graphic designer. You have terrible taste and make back-ups on tape drives. The only reason I am making fun of all this is that you chose to make these videos about yourself claiming you are great, just by making them.

  • College is good for all the basic knowledge about graphic design. It is more than making a lot of money. And there are so many people who think they are a graphic designer just because they can work in inDesign and Photoshop. It's not that simple.

The only sad thing about college is that you graduate without any experience whatsoever. You are a creative, open minded designer and all you do is come across jobs that aren't right for you because you want to be more than a photoshop re-toucher.

  • Don't need a degree to do it. A couple hundred dollars in books over a couple years and now I full time freelance from home and make more money than I ever did grinding away at a day job. Plus my resume and portfolio are much much stronger now.

Not a fan of the college system. Education is great, getting ripped off is not.

  • So far I've only learned things about art by myself through my own studies and experiments, do you have any knowledge of how they do things in universities or other colleges

  • @kmarois not typical. Saying you're not a fan of college means you are possibly poorly educated. College isnt' about running through a 2-year associates program. Graphic Design is a field of design and has a history. I may as well be a freelance mechanic and change people's oil all day instead of training to be more useful.

  • @HRDINA1 Its true but at the same time a 2 Year program with the right teachers and enough work put into it surpasses alot of these BA programs you see at most schools. ALot of art schools want money. Y waste 45 grand on some classes when you could go to a local school and use the same books for like 16 grand? BA is very helpful for getting a job but it wont mean your good. i seen amazing designers with no degrees.

  • Atlantaminuteman

    dood..your weird...and you can't spell either..

  • saying "um" this much irritates my hearing.

  • she should star in THE OFFICE

  • I really love your 24" CRT monitor, geez how old is that thing? upgrade your pc' for the sake of technology.

  • of of, lol 0:08

  • this video is ancient! i love all the syquest drives in her bookcase and the old Mac G3... this must be 10 years old or older...

  • She looks more like a prostitute.

  • This video looks modern with her clothing and hair style but that computer looks like my first computer which was a Macintosh Performer from around 1993. Is she serious?

  • And um.

  • Lol you don't need a degree. All you need is talent and a business mind.

  • you wont get a job in visual communications with that attitude. Businesses are looking for people who have talent but can also get the job done FAST!! If you havn't had schooling and don't have a background you Wont get the job.

  • work for yourself, I don't have a degree and have taught myself design, web building etc over the past 5 years. And i can make alot of cash :)

  • not if you want to work for real money and work for a REAL firm

  • LMFAO.... How old is this... Look at that computer in the background. That's an apple.... This has got to be from the 80's. Update your videos, Put a nice G5 in the background if you want viewers to give you some respect.. Just a thought to help you out.

  • How can it be she got her degree in 1990 plus it looks like she has a laptop or some kind of tft monitor next to her

  • It is a Mac PowerPC circa about 1995 would be my guess, It is probably there as an objet d' art, probably even still works, as macs have a long lifespan, I have a mac se that still works.

  • brutal

  • you really dont need a degree but the businesses dont know ur talent personally like you do so if u have a degree they have more confidence u know what ur doin

  • ROFL I Googled her, She isen't an expert she is a model wtf (ugly)

  • foreal?hahahaha sad

  • Yes google her: Terri Sileno

    I LOL'D

  • I've been doing graphic design for 11 years and have worked for Orbitz, Travelocity, Citbank, Redbook and Martha Stewart (personally and her company) all with NO degree. Its called 100's of hours of dedication learning the tools of the trade and vivid imagination. I could draw since I could hold a crayon and that's the difference. I've run into so many graphic designers with degrees that can only draw stick people with pen & paper and have zero imagination.

    Creativity, talent over degree anyday

  • i agree!! 100%

  • That's true, not everyone needs a degree to do great work... however, more and more business these days will only look at people who took the time to get a degree. I'm not a graphic arts student because I doubt my skills, I'm a graphic arts student because I want to make sure I'll find a job in the future.

Just think of this... A business gets a portfolio of two artists' work... They both do great work!! But only one of them has a degree, who do you think is going to get the job.

  • I've experienced this situation many times - the person who gets the job is the one who interviews the best. NEVER underestimate the power of interviewing well. Combine that will killer skills and you'll always get the job. Hiring people has a lot to do with who you are. I've had to hire people and I'll take the less qualified person who will fit within the company and its people more than the educated a-hole.

  • i agree with you also!!

  • I know I need to focus on the message but I can't stop wondering about how much she can bench

  • thats a nice powermac G3 back there

  • lmao!

  • I have a Baccuralate in Fine Arts & Graphic Design

  • and ur watching this video why?

  • stumbled upon this, thought i share.

  • haha

    RpGJuNki3 - 1

    Exupery1976 - 0

  • paste this to 2 other videos

go to your channel and see your comments

    JUST DO IT IT'S SCARY!!

(omg I was SHOCKED when I saw my comments

  • Was public speaking one of your courses? I think not.

  • um and.... um and.... um....um :@

  • Why would you make a video like this KNOWING that the computer next to you is making annoying sounds??

    one star you loser!

  • .............whats more annoying, are ridiculous ass comments like yours....-_-

    grow up...

  • Yes, that, and when people are too retarded to know that "whats" needs an apostrophe.

Like the maker of this video, you're sloppy. You don't THINK about the little things.

Good for you, I'm sure you'll make a crappy graphic designer.

    Wise up...

  • lmao....xD

im retarded?..cause i accidentally missed an apostrophe?? lol...umm?... xD

But yes, that's exactly the type of dumb defensive response I'd expect after being called out ;D

but Hey! im glad you admit you were annoying =D

    aww...growing up already ;D

PS. As it clearly states in the Description

the film maker was Kefa Olang

Not Terri Sileno whose the "expert" being interviewed

if ANYTHING, spit your crap at that foo not her

you said something about the "little things"? - JuNki3 xD

  • "im retarded?..cause i accidentally missed an apostrophe?? "

No, you're retarded because you can't seem to write a comment that DOESN'T have a mistake.

Take that last comment of yours; can you find the mistakes? I'll give you a hint - "foo" is not a word. There's one more, but I'm pretty certain you can't find it - seeing as you're a retard and all.

  • this foo...

    ok seriously....your an idiot....-_-

Foo is a slang word dumbshit...

i'm well aware that its not a real word...-_-

if your gonna be this idiotic about shit,

at least add some comical relief...geez xD

    "please get smarter"

    - JuNki3 xD

  • 1. copy and paste

    2. send this to 2 other videos.

    3. hold your breath

    4.press refresh twice

    5.LOOK AT YOUR HANDS

  • Protip: when making an informational video about... um, anything... its better to read from a script instead of just, um, making it up off the top of your, um... head.

  • Nice face, nice presentation but too many ums

  • and um.

  • I've been working in this business since 1981. Here's the facts: People with degrees usually only hire those with degrees. That means you won't get a job in most corporate environments without a degree. Degrees do not equal talent. In fact, I have been amazed at the lack of talent and knowledge I see in corporate design depts. I am constantly answering questions and solving problems for people who are making much more than I. I went to Paier for 5 years when it was good, before accreditation.

  • I have worked in the corporate environment for almost 10 years with NO degree. Skills & personality got me all my jobs at Citigroup, Thomson Financial, Chase and two law firms. The ads today usually say "degree or relative experience".

  • u can get it anytime girl.....

  • it's misses um again!

  • wtf... couldnt you upload any more boring video? and it seems u have uploaded like 20 of them

  • she doesnt upload them - expert village does

  • graphic design is nothing without php, css javascript skillz !

  • thats web design and development

  • that's called front end development. Graphic Design is mainly print work but can involve some web design, Usually Photoshop comps which are then cut up by front end developers.

  • you can have 10 degrees in graphic design but still not be any good at it. i'm a better designer with my diploma than anyone i know who just graduated a graphic design degree form university

  • yeah, you can go real far with an associates huh?

  • with that old school printer and monitor it looks like this was made in 1998 very retro

  • parp

  • nice screensaver

  • Community College... heh.. that explains it!

  • her voice is s0 dull n draininggggggggg =0(

  • lol...i think it's kinda funny that everyone decided to do this on a career education video...hehehe..

  • "They gave out these awards at a really nice dinner"..... Wow, so informative. I'm sure showing off your awards was very helpful for prospective students. LOL

  • DO NOT READ! A little over 20years ago a 12 year old boy was playing with his basketball in the street on Acto Street, NJ. Some teenagers who were drag racing on motorcycles weren't paying attention and ran him over and killed him. it is said that if you go on Acto Street, turn off your car, and blink your headlights 3 times you will see the figure of him bouncing the ball. Now that you have read this you must post this on 4 other messages in the next 10min, or you will die in an auto accident

  • what is wrong with your back ground SHUT OFF YOUR BACK GROUND IT IS ANNOYING!

  • Yeah, try putting that into a Resume.

  • there are arts degrees, and in many cases im sure they can be very useful.

in my opinion. i would value a portfolio of examples of artwork more than any degree certificate.

  • I'm aiming for my bachelors degree in graphic designing, I start college this fall, congrats on your many achievements and I hope soon I can reach that level.

  • Is it possible to find a Graphics Design student who will donate time to my Tango and Mambo Dance website to help build their portfolio?

  • She has a weird flatulance problem.

  • Are you Sarah Conner?? LOL

  • Hey Congradulations on getting those awards!... and also thanks for sharing!

    keep smiling too beautiful...

  • Stop saying "um"!!!

  • lol so true

  • shez irritating... shocks..

  • Great video. What are good classes for an Associate's Degree that will help? And what exactly is "Bachelor of Arts" for a graphic designer? Do you also need a computer science? I am just curious...

  • Towards the end of the video, it looks like her arms are quite large - I wonder if she's a body builder?

    Thanks EV for this clip.

  • stay as far away from the dope and baby pigeons that you have been smoke as possible...you idiot

  • This is the part of Graphic Design that I am most worried about...I am in a 2 year degree at my community college. It's a really good program, better than most community college GD programs, but I don't really have enough money to go onto a longer bachelors program at a university. I am terrified that I won't make enough money to support myself if I only have an A.S....

  • if you've got talent, then don't worry about it. You'll be able to get a job earning enough to support yourself, but having a BA will allow you to get better jobs with higher pay in a shorter amount of time. If you've got talent, and exercize it, then a degree in this field doesn't really mean anything to most employers. Trust yourself and you'll get anywhere you want.

  • I agree. I have done just that :). Things working great :)

If you have flare and believe in yourself and have the passion and drive , your work will get noticed and picked from the rest :)

  • Here's a hint... make a BA degree using photoshop :P

Besides, graphic design is artistic pursuit, your portfolio is your resume. Seen plenty of graduates who do terrible design and amateurs that do great work. Make a great portfolio and you don't need a degree.

  • Yep... you nailed it : your work is your degree... what's hers again? oH! community challenged .

    lol

PS. the business world seams mighty fine as a holiday destination !

  • I agree with this too :)

  • In Canada, at least in Ontario, York I believe is the only university that offers the Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design. It even goes on to Masters Degree. But Generally, Graphic Design is taught at the College Level and it can be from 2 to 3 yrs.
