I think the problem with these new games, isn't necessarily that the gameplay is bad. I'll be honest, it looks a bunch of fun. I also don't mind Abe not returning so much. The main problem I find is that these newer titles seem so light and childish. The original Oddworld games on the playstation had INCREDIBLY dark humor, and a chilling atmosphere. Characters being turned into meat, heart pounding music, screeching monsters. It's dark humor, not Crash Bandicoot humor like this game feels...

I dunno - why so many glowing reviews? 8.5? We were programming 1st to 3rd person shooting back in the days of Quake - the Chasecam mods. So that isn't a new development here. I would think maybe a 5 or 6/10 just because of the absolute lack of creativity with the characters, voices, dialogue. I mean that's really what you're interacting with that it severely affects gameplay. You didn't even mention the constant foul language and sexual innuendos, which really turned me off this game.

There may be detractors for this game, but I thought it was superb. It follows the theme of the Oddworld series in the form of corporate exploitation of natural resources and the negative aspects that entails. Combine that with a sort of messianic figure (Stranger), and you have a nice Oddworld addition. First there was Abe, then along came Stranger.

here is my review, the game is shit, it should have nothing to do with oddworld games. Even though munches odysee was 3d the game still ruled with a good story, this game was just a piece of shit from the start right until the end, wow an operation to save yourself, amazing.
What makes this game great is how they blended third person combat and platforming and first person shooting, and it is executed. Also the concept of live ammo gives some originality.

@mitch13815 exactly my thoughts, i went out and bought stranger's wrath because i never got to play it back on the original xbox, and i was "hoping" that they would eventually make it backwards compatible. But it seems they have abandoned making anything else BC ever again, which makes me really sad. Looking back, I can't think of a game on the original Xbox that was as great as this. I don't even want to think about the lack-of-sales, as this was such a huge game for me and remains one of my fondest gaming memories.
I can't believe people are bitching about wanting Abe back. Besides the fact that Oddworld Inhabitants seems almost defunct and will probably never release anything anymore anyway, try to remember that this series is OddWORLD, and that there's a lot more going on in their universe than a few mudokins running around. Think of oddworld as more of a setting than a strict chronology of games.
I thought this game was the best of the Oddworld franchise when I finished it back in 05. I still think it is the best in series looking back at the other 3 games.
Stranger was the most fun protagonist imv, it felt like you were controlling a gun totting half bull- half lion. Very fast and powerful.
As much as I love Abe, I love Stranger just as much. Oddworld is a big place. Every character should at least be respected. (Plus, you ever think that perhaps Stranger will tie in to Abe's story at some point?)
I don't understand you people. How can you say you lost interest? Oddworld was never MEANT to be JUST about Abe and the Mudokons! Ever think there's a bit more going on here? Abe's Exodus was a bonus game, so we're lucky we got that. Munch's Odysee was supposed to be the second game. This is what makes Oddworld special-the fact that it doesn't evolve around only a handful of species and a single format.

I dearly, dearly, DEARLY love the first 2 games of the Oddworld series. I'm not a huge fan of Munch's Oddysee, but THIS game.
Is very good. It's refreshing, and provides another view of Oddworld. It's the same planet, so who says that Stranger and Abe won't meet up?

i still like the old abe's oddysee and abe's exoddus games. they seem to be the best and more interesting than the newer stuff such as this. sure this game may be great but it doesn't follow the other oddworld games and is quite disappointing for me. it would be great if they just stuck with the 2d side-scroller. take munch's oddysey for example; if that was 2d side scroller i think it could be great, especially with the addition of munch. reply if you guys have any suggestions, but thats jst me

I dont like this game it looks bad... the gameplay and everything looks awsome but it doesnt keep with the oddworld story.... it only has the wildlife and thats it! look on the oddworld website to see for yourself it doenst mention the chicken people or the starngers enemys either!

Looking back, I can't think of a game on the original Xbox that was as great as this. I don't even want to think about the lack-of-sales, as this was such a huge game for me and remains one of my fondest gaming memories.

I can't believe people are bitching about wanting Abe back. Besides the fact that Oddworld Inhabitants seems almost defunct and will probably never release anything anymore anyway, try to remember that this series is OddWORLD, and that there's a lot more going on in their universe than a few mudokins running around. Think of oddworld as more of a setting than a strict chronology of games.

I thought this game was the best of the Oddworld franchise when I finished it back in 05. I still think it is the best in series looking back at the other 3 games.
Stranger was the most fun protagonist imv, it felt like you were controlling a gun totting half bull- half lion. Very fast and powerful.

As much as I love Abe, I love Stranger just as much. Oddworld is a big place. Every character should at least be respected. (Plus, you ever think that perhaps Stranger will tie in to Abe's story at some point?)

I don't understand you people. How can you say you lost interest? Oddworld was never MEANT to be JUST about Abe and the Mudokons! Ever think there's a bit more going on here? Abe's Exodus was a bonus game, so we're lucky we got that. Munch's Odysee was supposed to be the second game. This is what makes Oddworld special-the fact that it doesn't evolve around only a handful of species and a single format.

Ok, fuck you lot who don't like this because Abe's not in it. What Oddworld Inhabitants done here was great. Seriously, why would you want another game that's based around rescuing mudokens for the 4th time?
And to actually be able to beat the shit out of enemies without the help of allies you rescue is quite refreshing and it stil manages to be a challenge; lus the instant change of gameplay around 3/4 quarters in is well excuted. Also it's called the 'Oddworld QUINTOLOGY' FOR A REASON!

@emeraldthechao174 if you want shooting around so badly, go play a shooter. the oddworld games should be consistent. im not saying they should stay the same. Oddysee and Exoddus were enough. i mean they should revolve around central gameplay ideas. also, there have only been two games in the quintology so far, both Oddysee games.

Although I love all the Oddworld games, the 1st one is my favourite, the original gameplay didn't work so well in 3D and the fact that you couldn't kill enemies yourself just got annoying and tedious. And I'm actually sick of shooters, this game actually done it right by mixing it well with other gameplay genres like platforming and a beat-em'-up.

Oddworld is not Diskworld.. It is a series of games which i expect to resresemble its predecessors in gameplay at least.
If Grand theft auto 5 was released as a puzzle game i would react the same way.

@TheCohagen You wanted to rescue Mudokens all over again? The same gameplay gets tiresome, look at Munch's Oddyssey. Sure they added some new stuff (like the power ups, fuzzles and the most fucked up ending ever) but the gameplay was exactly the same and it's clearly a type not meant for 3D games. If they made some 2D ones sure I would prefere the original gameplay.

@MrTinkotin I agree. I grew up on Abe's odyssey and Abe's exodus. Once they came out with munch's bullshit I totally lost interest. Though I did play muches Odyssey to give a try.. it will never be the same.. I still play both of the originals on ePSXe though

this game was quality, damn quality...combined 3rd and 1st person seamlessly and the bosses were fun to fight. i got a shooter, but i also got puzzles. good game...
