Was this kind of cruelty historic ? even at the Eastern front, even waffen-SS troops were held strictly to disciplin. Rape, atrocity against civilians was not allowed, and heavily punished. Movie industry has put down a rather bad picture of the German soldier. Don't know if it is a fair one,though.

You know the saying : the first casualty in war is truth. I don't know if it is a fair picture either, but it is the only one allowed, because in many european countries, you risk legal prosecutions if you doubt the "german atrocities". To whom profits the crime? Not necessarily to the official (and officious ;-)...) winners of WWII.
