In some ways Illinois is the worst state for personal freedoms. The people here in Illinois have forgotten how to be responsible for themselves. They now rely on the government for everything. Our freedom has been traded for security, and now we have neither. It is mainly because of politicians in Chicago and its suburbs that there is no carry law. But, ironically, those are the areas that citizens need a protection weapon the most.

@fireobbsesion Where do you live ? Here in the U.S. we have different jurisdictions, there are Federal laws and each state, county, and city have their own laws. But everything is still govern by the Federal Constitution the Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms that can mean guns, knives, or some other type of weapon. Remember the U.S. had a civil war over the consitutional issues of states rights, and those issues were never resolved.

The point I was actually trying to get out is that when you write to your congressman, enclose a fact sheet comparing non-carry vs. carry crime rates. And be polite. Don't just write that you want to be able to carry because it should be one's rights. I have great memories of going bird hunting with my dad, and my grandpa. I'm not really anti gun. But I wouldn't carry a hand gun because I know I don't really want to shoot a person. I would love to target shoot though which is a lot of fun.

I give as generously as I can to both of these gun rights organizations so that they can help to protect our rights nation wide. I also stay in touch with my state and federal goverment representatives. They know where I stand. I live in Maryland where a conceal carry permit is all but impossible to attain. People fear what they don't understand. We, as gun owners, have failed to pass along the culture of firearms to our children. I think that the states that allow people to carry guns probably have more people shot and the crime rate is probably higher. @fireobbsesion Where do you live ? Here in the U.S. we have different jurisdictions, there are Federal laws and each state, county, and city have their own laws. But everything is still govern by the Federal Constitution the Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms that can mean guns, knives, or some other type of weapon. Remember the U.S. had a civil war over the consitutional issues of states rights, and those issues were never resolved.

Move to Illinois... no way. I moved from Indiana to California in 1963. But my situation isn't any better here as over the years our gun rights have also been limited by politically correct gun laws. I would be out of this state in a heartbeat if I could get my wife to agree.
My point is... in the old country, our Great-Great Grand-daddys left tyranny, familiarity, culture, language and family for freedom. And if we want the same we may have to make the same sacrifice.

The point I was actually trying to get out is that when you write to your congressman, enclose a fact sheet comparing non-carry vs. carry crime rates. And be polite. Don't just write that you want to be able to carry because it should be one's rights. I have great memories of going bird hunting with my dad, and my grandpa. I'm not really anti gun. But I wouldn't carry a hand gun because I know I don't really want to shoot a person. I would love to target shoot though which is a lot of fun.

I give as generously as I can to both of these gun rights organizations so that they can help to protect our rights nation wide. I also stay in touch with my state and federal goverment representatives. They know where I stand. I live in Maryland where a conceal carry permit is all but impossible to attain. So I like many others will keep up the fight. Anyone that can read this needs to do the same.

People fear what they don't understand. We, as gun owners, have failed to pass along the culture of firearms to our children. The rise in drug violence in the 1980's - 90's was manipulated by the Left to drive a wedge in the country between gun owners and their neighbors. The NRA used to have a media campaign "I am the NRA" that ran in magazines etc. and showed famous people. Today we only associate murders and nutjobs as gunowners. We need to do better.

As a friendly neighbor in Iowa, I want to remind you that Iowa recently went from being a may-issue state to a SHALL-issue state. Now anybody can get a handgun (mostly). As a cop, I LOVE the fact that the people I protect can now first and foremost protect themselves. There have been small problems here and there with idiots who shouldnt have guns obtaining permits anyway, but it's a small price to pay for the freedom of the rest of us. Luckily being a LEO I can carry nationwide. Good Luck to IL

In fact, areas where the vast majority of its citizens own and or carry firearms, the crime rate either 1) Drops in quite a large amount, or 2) Stays virtually the same. There is no increase in crime in a gun friendly area. Common sense says Yes crime would rise, but the facts overwhelmingly say No.

Your country has never been invaded, have its finest men taken, thousands of civilians murderd, all industry destroyed, an ecomnomic collapse that has never been experenced since and its impact is still seen today, then have our kids taught in schools that it was all because our heroic ancestors were really evil racist slave owners, not to mention we are openly mocked and made fun of in the media

@TheRiflemanChannel I do understand more than you think. I have visted many of the battle sites here in nearby Virginia which I regard as hallowed ground. Like I said before, the US Civil War was a sad and unfortunate time for this country. I regret that it still hurts.
