alternatively, you could start with the chips resting on your lower fingers, and then raise the other two using your thumb and forefinger. whichever is most comfortable for you.

I can do this trick but i have a problem with the bottom two chips i cant get them in between my pinky ringer finger enough, i can still do the butterfly but the chip in between my pink and ring finger is closer to the next chip than it should be

You're making it 10x more complicated then it has to be with pulling the middle two, you drop the back half instead and it doesn't look half as sloppy, so do it exactly as you did, but with the back two "dropping" not the middle two...

I learned to split them in the middle rather than pull the middle two out. I think it allows for a better spread, plus I think it lets people with smaller little fingers get more meat from their little finger on the chip to allow better control. I have a tutorial where I'm doing it with coins. I'll put another one up as soon as I find some poker chips.
