If anyone is in the upstate NY region, Maceo and the band are coming to the Massry Center for the Arts on September 23rd! you can go The College of Saint Rose Website for Tickets only $25!
mh... great song, but I was wondering if there are more artists that make real funk or jazz with hip-hop parts like this one? it would be really nice if somebody could help me find some
@robbiesoho Oh man those guys are spectacular! In my ears they are the best new funk bands in music! Rage is a fantastic album, so simple and so well thought out! I have been listening it non stop in my car for 4 weeks now!!!
Maceo is one of the reasons that i love saxophone playing so much, the highblowing abbilitys of the trompetplayer are out of this universe as well, love it !!!!
@fiegenfiegen That's Jamal (JT) Thomas on drums, I got to hang out and party with him years ago. One of the most rock solid live players in the funk. that's why Maceo keeps him around
@JonnyLikesPie Jamal Thomas. Smashing. Thank you so much for the information! Indeed, beautiful playing and dynamics! This is the kind of people you can't help admiring.
As stated previously, the band is tight. The trumpet player was sharp and crisp. Corey the Rapper, Maceo's son, really took the song to another dimension with his "old school Uptown style" rap. Rappers have different styles and Corey's style is the old Bronx/Harlem style of rap. Kudos!
This is a great show. The band is tight. Jamal Thomas, the drummer, has a wicked left hand. Those 16th notes on the ride and the hi hat are crisp. The rapper showed that there's a place for Rap after all.
i listen to this song since i m 6 years old, thats more than 10 years now, and i still love it. before 4 years i was on a concert in germany,....man... i cant describe the feeling after this concert, i was just smiling all the time.
I LOVE THIS GUY, i hope he will play the next 20 years again!!!!
i only got that album named amalgamation or something like that . . and i played his song peace power .. but never knew much about him . . so .. kind of cool what you can learn through youtube.. ha ha thanx for the information . .
Dude. Check out almost anything by James Brown, especially the "JB's" stuff plus lots of Parliament Funkadelic stuff. There are loads of clips on here of Maceo and Fred playing together. Both were band leaders for James Brown and have done sooo much stuff together. You've got some good listening experiences to come...
Thats some THICK funk!
