I have Snow Leopard, but I find myself using QT7 most of the time. I need to export stuff in different formats, and customize the bit rate and resolution etc. of those formats. If QTX could do that I would use it. lol

If I'm going to watch a movie or something that I know I won't be exporting, then I might do it I'm QTX.

If you go to "About Quicktime Player" it clearly says 'Version 10.0'. Even though they never had versions 8 or 9 this one is 10.

Just think of it like the Super Bowl, people don't say "Super Bowl EX-ELL-EYE-EYE', they say "Super Bowl 42"

Still doesn't make any sense. Why would apple release a later version, even if it had more features, and called it 8? If a "pro" version is coming it would have to be "QT 10 Pro" or QT X Pro". It would never be called QT 8 Pro.

I was thinking that in a new Quicktime release for Windows. several Windows users avoid Quicktime like the Swine Flu unless forced to use it (iTunes), yet if a new QT Pro had screen capture I believe a lot of Windows users would buy it. It doesn't really hurt Apple and in fact would boost sales and still have exclusive software on Mac OS.

I'm wondering if Apple will put desktop screen recording in the Windows Quicktime Pro version. If they do then I'll definitely buy it. I have nothing against camstudio since it's free, but yeah it's a bit limited on choosing file formats for screen recording.

Hey Eric, go for the Audio Technica AT2020 USB Mic, but hey if went with the Blue Snowball that would be great too. You are more serious about making video's than I am, so a good audio mic is needed. Your current Mic sounds great though, but it does pick up some of the background noises like computer fans. I'm testing out a Logitech USB $30 Mic, it does sound good, but have to raise it to 100% and have it pretty close in order for it to sound good.

This goes to not only Apple, but ALL software developer companies: if you make an upgrade, DON'T change all of the features. Just ADD on them. It's cool to add new features to software, but don't take out the shit that everyone is used to. If anything, make it so that you can run the thing in two modes. This isn't relative to Quicktime or anything, but just in general.

You hate it because of no prefs? Well old QT 7 could NOT encode more than movie at once. Not like QTX. I can encode 3 movies and edit on another one. Tihs kills the old quicktime especially art multicore support.

the fact that you have to access its added functions by terminal is ridiculous given apples stand on ease of use and things that end users should worry about, especially when the videos that come out of quicktime xs screen recording function are so horribly encoded with awful compression that it pixilates on the default setting

the fact it doesnt record the sound, isight and screen independently of one another makes it pretty stupid also from an editing point of view

you think thats the point? Of course screenflow is better. Screenflow is 100 bucks, if windows included this feature or linux you would be creaming your pants. This isnt rying to be screenflow, its trying to be a screen capture app and you use this feature with imovie and you kill screenflow. Which you can via the Share menu

Ok emeek, we have had our issues in the past so that aside i will ask you a question. I too have been messing with Quicktime X's screen capturing, however after the export (the options are extremely limited) and in the native H.264 fails to import into FCP, every time I try to import it fails because of an unrecognized file format? WTF it is H.264 by default, do you have an answer for this problem? A few friends of mine are having the same issues so it's not my system or setup.. later

ok im making 3 different videos i will upload them as responses, ones quicktime x ones screen flow one is ishow you, yes they cost money but then why stick features onto a product that are in effect unusable and easily could be better i mean FFS im using the same encoder (quicktime) for all videos.

another this i have discovered is that ishow you and quicktime both render out videos of about the same size by default but screen flow was much smaller 17mb for ishowu/16.6 quicktime x and 4mb for screen flow

just select new movie recording, then select new screen recording. Start your cam recording, then start your screen capture. Trim the beginning if needed when done.
