  • Really don't like the cut, the ending is from another show but how in the other show does geddy get to be behind the other mike not the keyboard one?? any one else notice he's behind the keyboard and less than half a sec later behind the other mike in front of the drums! 4:13 and 4:14, he cant have moved there cos he's still singing. is it a camera trick?

  • Gives me goosebumps. Nothing campares to this. The Best Period.

  • This is the version that was on the 'Hear 'N' Aid' album. Awesome!

  • I really dont like the sound of that Steinberger. I love them anyways!

  • If Rush and Dream Theater were to tour together, I would sell my middle name to attend

  • They look so young!!! Awesome band, and for those you don't like them, ESFOAD.

  • I was at this concert and remember it well. RUSH kicks ass!

  • @JLamb58 saw the Grace Under Pressure tour in Chicago, an awesome show, especially when they did the 3 parts of fear in order, The enemy within, The Weapon, and my personal favorite, Witch Hunt!!!! God that was awesome, made even better cause i was awesomly stoned!!!!

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Every time I listen to Witch Hunt I argue throughout the whole thing with myself saying "Is this my favorite Rush tune?" I usually answer "Hell yeah."

  • @HartsChannel same here

  • I actually ended up getting in an argument with one of my friends because I said that Rush needs to come to Omaha for a show (we never get any good concerts >.>) and he was like "Rush sucks. Linkin Park is way better and they need to come to Omaha." I was just flabbergasted. I mean, if it weren't for Rush and other such huge progressive bands, Linkin Park and stuff like that wouldn't exist. God, I fear for my generation T_T

  • @DarkAngelInuyasha Excatly, I also have a friend and he insulted them greaty. Because Rush wasnt' his thing, he was in to more punk stuff. When he insulted them i was indeed enraged. I scolded him because he needs to have respect for all other music genres, not just what you like. I'm really starting to hate him due to his lack of respect for other music artists. I nearly killed him -.- Why does ppl seemed NOT to like good music?

  • @2012wyvern I love punk too. In fact, my 5 favorite bands:

    1. Rush

    2. Iron Maiden

    3. Blink-182

    4. Red Hot Chili Peppers

    5. Pink Floyd

What does that say about my somewhat diverse taste xD

  • @mfighter96 Awesome. Always a pleasure to know other fans too.

  • @mfighter96 you got two of mine in there, Rush and Floyd, though I have to list mine in this order, !. Rush 2. Cream 3. Floyd 4. Jethro Tull 5. Paul Butterfield Blues Band

  • lol, 3D glasses?

  • respected in all musical areas. they got it.they re special

  • I saw this tour in Portland, Or in 1984. I was a sophmore in high school. I have to say, without a doubt, that this is the best band ever! I had all their albums when vinyl was it! I have since collected cds of them as well. Neil Peart wrote DEEP lyrics, oh, and yes he IS the professor of the drum kit!

  • One of the easily greatest things about Rush is their dedication and commitment to keeping the live show sounding just as authentic (and better) as their studio work. They will NEVER have anyone else on stage doing extra instruments because they all share the load of the other amazing sound layers with the sequencer pedals they employ here, not to mention Ged's uncanny bass/synth/voice work at every show. No other band can claim that.

  • Rush is one of the few bands I've ever really liked that was as good or better live than on record. I saw them last year and will definitely see them again!

  • audio off of Lead Guitar is amazing

  • its amazing how my dad turned me on to rush at ten years old my first concert being in 09' but i have every rush song know to man on my ipod and i will love rush until i am laying in my grave. LONG LIVE RUSH im 13 now for those of u wondering

  • @Crustaceatron Amen.

Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, and Hold Your Fire mark an era of incredible music. Those five records ARE Rush for myself and most of my generation.

  • @hokisazchka

5 great albums but that was just the second phase of my own Rush odyssey. Starting with 2112, then ESL, Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres and Permanent Waves .. I managed to go to every Rush concert tour for over a decade and these videos just remind what fantastic music I was getting.

  • @hokisazchka The earlier stuff was amazing too, 2112, Hemispheres and Farewell to Kings in particular. Tremendous band!

  • @69johnholmes definitely

  • I was going to say that this is my favourite RUSH tune, but I've said that, so many times, that I think I'm just in denial. Suffice to say that I've heard very few that I didn't like. But, this is one of many.

  • I fail to understand why some people dislike this record, or for that matter much of Rush's 80's synth-laden/almost new-wave material. They didn't want to continue playing pretentious progressive rock well into their double-digits and end up completely burnt out/washed up. Think about it. Rush will always be Rush, goddamnit!

  • How is Rush not the 1st into the RnRHoF? Well at least the worlds population knows that they are the Best!

  • @VoodooLou As great of a band they are, they are really still sort of an underground band. Even Geddy calls them the worlds biggest cult band. They've also never actually been innovators. They have always just reflected what was going around them in popular music. They arent like Metallica who started an entire new revolution in music. Rush never accomplished anything like that. I think they deserve to be in, but I definitely understand why they aren't.

  • bbadd asss !!!

  • haha Geddy's headless steinberger bass

  • Ahhh, my Rush loving freinds. Nice to see ya's. I've seen these guys 17 times. I'm so glad they keep kickin it out, and dont put it in the closet. They know thier loved n needed. The RUSH Trekkies.

  • One of my favorites of the 'keyboards' area, along with subdivisions, mystic rythms and red sector a. Also above tip is rewarding; rent Rush: Beyond the lighted stage. It's awesome.

  • People always say that Rush makes a lot of sound for three guys, but really Geddy is two guys (at least) and Neil has four arms - Don't you people know anything?!

  • brilliant performance

  • To the 3 people that disliked this video, I worry about you!

  • what dose he say at the end that's love or absolom i don't know i heard a bunch of different answers this and red sector a from grace under pressure and show of hands are the best

  • Still the best even after all these years!!

  • still works 4 me 2011

    left and rights

  • Esto es maravilloso, tengo que hacer un gran esfuerzo para que no me caigan las lágrimas.Gracias por todo Rush, gracias por existir.

  • Red alert...RED ALERT!

  • Rush, the best band forever n ever, I don't care what people says bout 'em, for me they were best on earth... a 3pc band with an awesome sounds... they influenced me a lot...

  • Can't wait to see them June 28th!!!!

  • Theme song of the Korean DMZ .

  • holy tits this song is awesome

  • i still really like this no matter how much i hear my friends complain about grace under pressure.

  • fukken liked!!!! :D

  • I went to see them for P/G in '84 - I was 17. Now I am taking my 2 daughters who are also 17 & 18 tommorrow in Hamilton. I smoked up when I was there. They won't be though (lol).

If someone had told me that I'd be taking my kids to see them at the same age I would never have even imagined it. Life is strange indeed.

  • @DanesFreedom

I wonder if the sequence will continue for you! Rush you are not allowed to retire until the sequence is complete! ;-)

  • Greatest Canadian band ever. Maybe greatest band ever.

  • I love this song and, as if others here, it was my first Rush song. Special! :)

  • sounds great

  • Some lyrics ! Some performance !

  • Of course my All time favorite band ROCKS!!!!!!

  • does anyone know what absolom is?neil once said lyrics are like his drums an infinite playground,or something like that.at the end geddy says absolom absolom absolom. pick up your bible or google who absolom was.

  • i really love Lifesons way up stepping up on GUP, as a result from Signals, where he was somewhat pushed to the side. As a lover of all of their era's and different sounds, I think I find myself listening to the 80's decade the most (minus Presto)

  • @sonoflife74 me too sono,i have been a die hard rush fan for longer than most these poster have been alive.my first show was like `84 for 11.00 bucks, unreal, i love their 70 stuff before keyboards too, but i have to admit ,after the big money i stopped listening to there new stuff, have never even heard it,i live in philly and are stations suck, classic rock stations play them, but only singles ,not album cuts, like tom sawyer, which if i never heard again i would be fine.but they are still great.

  • @harley7446 and The Pass

  • @sonoflife74 me too sono,i have been a die hard rush fan for longer than most these poster have been alive.my first show was like `84 for 11.00 bucks, unreal, i love their 70 stuff before keyboards too, but i have to admit ,after the big money i stopped listening to there new stuff, have never even heard it,i live in philly and are stations suck, classic rock stations play them, but only singles ,not album cuts, like tom sawyer, which if i never heard again i would be fine.but they are still .

  • @harley7446 dude u have not heard anything after big money(which in my opinion is the worst song on power windows)???....heres some u must check out... Manhattan Project Marathon Territories Middletown Dreams Emotion Detector Mystic Rhythms Dreamline Bravado Available Light Nobody's Hero Resist Half The World Faithless Far Cry Working Them Angels... Good Luck
  • One of the best groups of ALL time. This song turned me on to Rush years ago and I have never looked back. And really, what can one say about how amazing they are as musicians

  • Comment removed

  • rush RULES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its a little far fetched but at 1:32 geddy looks like reba, haha rush is my fav band i mean, there is no way to describe them they are so good

  • You gotta love Geddy Lee ... plays the bass guitar, the keyboard and sings at the same time... seriously talented man!!

  • Rush doesnt deserve the rock and roll hall of fame, they get there own spot in the god hall

  • Nice pants Alex!

  • This song's got everything!

  • Amazing band and awesome song! I keep finding more and more songs from Rush that I simply love, far more than any other singular band. Wish I could have been (alive) at some of their 1984 shows, though the one I hit last year was awesome as well!

  • Who rules? the only correct answer is RUSH

  • this is TRUE pop music! Take a listen, I dare you not to.

  • @SolSkill No....this is prog rock/hard rock genius

  • god neil peart is amazing

  • Does anyone know why his voice changed so much from 1983 to 1984 ?

  • It's insane to think that they are only 3... Wow!

  • got to be the best live dvd of all time so talented it hurts

  • This is the song that introduced me to Rush. I cannot begin to articulate the amount of joy this band has give me over my life. A Rush fan is not a typical music fan!

  • @drummerstevedixon This was my firts rush song , too. It was at the DIO "hear'n aid album"

  • @drummerstevedixon i could not agree more i have 99 songs on 1 cd that i shuffle every day for the last 8 months...i love them and i love that i love them...my license plate on my jag conv is 2112 R30...2 weeks tilll msg

  • @drummerstevedixon Rush fans are not fans at all. We are Rushians!!! We are a family of devoted enthusiasts of a profoundly fantastic collaboration of wonderful minds that is Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart.

  • @suckonthisemokids well said, the thing I like about Rush besides their fantastic musucianship is the mind of Neil Peart and the wonderful and thought provoking lyrics he writes!!!

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Precisely! There's just something about Neil that makes one's mind long to understand the intricate web that his brain consists of. He's just a beautiful person all around.

  • @drummerstevedixon Witch Hunt is the song that did it for me..i cannot dexcribe the joy the give me also...from 1974-2112...i love these 3 guys...my license plate is 2112 R30...looks great on a jag convertible...Im proud to be a psycho Rush fan

  • @drummerstevedixon I would like to think that. Thank you for the comment.

  • @drummerstevedixon Rush doesn't make typical music!!! I have been listenining to bands since the mid sixties, and none compares to the musicianship of Rush, and only a couple come close, Pink Floyd and the Moody Blues

  • Amazing.

  • Rent this: Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage

If you Love Rush, you will Love this movie.

I will never think the same about them, they are my number one probably forever.

  • @wmsaun2333 I agree so much. When I first saw'em live in Rio I couldn't hold my tears. Probably one of the happiest moments of my life.

  • @wmsaun2333 Why rent when you can own?

  • @wmsaun2333 I got that movie with my tickets as merchandise with a Rush tee and guitar picks and a fly by night poster. and that show I went to Alex Lifeson signed me a guitar pick! Happiest Freakin' day of my life. I held on to that pick the whole 4 hour car ride back. And I'm pretty sure Geddy Lee looked at me ;)

  • I'm a bit confused. During the chorus, it sounds as though Lee's playing keyboards as well as his bass. This is not only anatomically impossible, but the camera also shows him playing his bass. Could anyone explain this?

  • @EragonFiresword There are pedals under the synth that he operates with his feet.

  • @SirTensis It all becomes clear now... Bloody hell! How the hell does he do that?!? That's bass, singing, and pedals all at the same time! The man's a genius!

  • @EragonFiresword Yeah the parts are sampled DAMN it would be a bitch to time all that right.

  • @EragonFiresword Keep an eye on Alex's right foot at about 1:15. He is starting the sequence with his pedals. He also starts the sequence in The Spirit of Radio ("Invisible airwaves..."), the build-up sequence in The Big Money before the first verse, lots of stuff in Force Ten, the "subdivisions" sample in Subdivisions (Presto tour forward), and much much more... For me, one great part of watching them live is watching all of this "technical choreography."

  • @EragonFiresword Technically that's not quite true, he could strum open notes with one hand and play keys with the other, or he could tap the fret with one hand and play keys with the other.

  • @EragonFiresword......

It's Geddy Lee, trust me......it's possible.

  • Lifeson's IQ = 160, maybe +

  • I've lived my 16 years so far and as far back as i can remember I've loved and been listening to rush. i just got my license a few days ago and just went out on my first solo drive. guess what the first song was that came on the radio? rush the spirit of radio.

  • not enough lasers at concerts. I just saw time machine tour not one laser..GUP seems like it was one of their best tours. I saw Power and Hold, but two of my friends went to this show and it drove me insane not to go. I think I was 14 or so.

  • Grace Under Pressure is one of the best Albums of all time

  • wheres Bubbles?

  • Please please, let me know which album is this, I would like to buy. I have a LP but I would like to have all these SHOW

  • @cmp1210 grace under pressure

  • The guitar during the verses is absolutely brilliant, intricate and perfect for the song. Alex rocks!! Long live RUSH!

  • hopefully they will play in Argentina next month, i can't wait

  • I'm sorry to say this, but RUSH ruined itself when they put that damn keyboard upfront. I mean look at that monster synthesizer!!! Flock of Seagulls and DD would be jealous. Thank God they've ditched that POS and gone back to their roots with awesome riffs, killer drumming and stratospheric vocals. I

  • @snakesinmypants - I made a SERIOUS mistake in quitting to listen to them after Hemispheres. That is one that I wish I could take back. I missed out on dome great music, that I am now getting into, but it will never make up for the shows that I have missed over the past 30 years. WTF was I thinking?????????

  • @nailers99 it's ok, brother...the music's still here.

    enjoy...

  • Red Alert, Red Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sos1001001 hahah REEEDDD ALLLERTT!!

  • Simply great..."You sometimes (might)be crazy...but I worry about you..."..there are so many phrases from their lyrics...!

Terrible musicians...I agree with most of the opinions...

but...they surely came from outer space XD!

  • always liked this song/didnt like the keyboards so much back in the day though,...but love science-rock stuff..

  • Yea, even Alex...the genius of "sparce" guitar..what a combination...this is what we should beam to outer space...may keep us from being invaded by superior species.

  • Monsters, all three of them are monster...... Even Alex!!!!!

  • I have never seen more talent encompassed in three individuals. They are AMAZING! I've only seen them live twice but they were epic!

  • Geddy's Bass sounds so sic Live!

  • I wish these guys would publish their IQ's. I have a theory that there is more at work here than just talent.

  • @REALCougarsRmales I always thought the saaaame thing... it's like they tap into cosmic/universal/infinite wisdom/knowledge... genius trio

  • "We can face the knowledge that the truth is not the truth"

  • I saw Rush on this tour in 1984 when I was 30, best concert I have ever been too. Of course I'm a Rush fanatic. They influenced my whole life, and every song brings back great memories. I love Rush. They deserve to be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, if you agree please click thumbs up!

  • @vettedreams i honestly hope Rush never get recognized by the "H.O.F.": it would do nothing but validate all the other a-holes they've "honored".

look at the company they'd be joining - might as well send 'em to prison, or as GOD would, send them to HELL.

    thanks, God, but no....

  • @shavepate I cannot deny parts of your opinion are true........but in my opinion they deserve to be there. By being there the fans get to go see something that honors the band they love so much. Regardless of who else may be there, its about the music, its about the band, its about the fans, and its about the memories, its not about the critics, who by ignoring them bring dishonor to the one thing that brings us together........Rock & Roll.

  • @vettedreams i dont, they should have been in enducted in 98 when they were eligable, the hall of fame doesnt deserve rush.

  • @vettedreams Rush was my 1st concert ever. Dec. 16, 1977 Toledo Sports Arena

  • @GregERobertson ....thanks for your reply.....in 1977 I had heard of Rush but didnt really get into them until the early 80's......in 1977 I was a drummer in my own band and we were into Nazereth and Aerosmith.

  • @vettedreams I agree that they are worthy of being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...but I also think they're waaayyyy above that. They're so good, they don't need that sort of recognition. Their music and their fan base say it all.

  • @vettedreams - FYI, I'm selling a program for that tour on eBay right now; with a ticket stub from The Forum.

  • @vettedreams i was 31 when i saw this stop on the tour in Chicago, had only been a Rush fan for 3 years at that time, but this show cemented me for life as a fanatic Rush fan, got to meet Geddy at a record store in 2000 also in chicago, thanked him for all the great music and for Rush truly representing the Spirit of the Radio.

  • @vettedreams I saw RUSH when I was just over 30, in 1989, and now my daughter is 32 and just saw them live. Do they appeal to that particular age for some reason?

  • @stillspooky I dont think so, however I'm no expert. I had been a Rush fan since my early 20's. I will say that that particular tour and time period were special in Rush music, and we will never see or hear anything like it ever again. Your daughter must just appreciate awesome music from the best band on earth. :)

  • @vettedreams Oh, it wasn't my introduction to RUSH, I was just noticing the odd coincidence that several posts are memories of people who saw them live at that age.

  • @stillspooky I understood what you meant and yes it does seem odd. At my current age it feels good to reflect back to those days when it seemed like music was the most important thing on earth, Rush in particular. Its good to see that young people enjoy the music we grew up with and maybe strive for grace under pressure. Thanks for your comments.

  • @vettedreams I heard they didnt want to be in the Hall of Fame because they didnt think it should be called the rock and roll hall of fame with some of the people who was in it

  • @ozzman6988 Ive heard that too. And its not hard to agree with them, however I still think its a damn shame that they have not been inducted. Its a punch in the face to them and there fans who have consistently supported them since their first album. Someone should do something......I wish I could.......maybe a gathering of fans at the R&R H of F......say 30,000 or so might get their attention. RUSH 4EVER.

  • i wish i could watch rush live at around this time. best stuff ever!

  • Damn, how can Geddy play those bass lines and sing at the same time?!

  • 4:55 I'm fine Geddy. How are you?

  • great

  • Geddy is a friggin machine. You have to watch him closely, sometimes he plays with his feet and his hands at the same time, sometimes while singing.

  • hey ged, nice hockey hair :/

  • even though the hair is gay ;still a kick ass song

  • Love this guitar sound. Anyone know how Alexa achieves the sound in the opening riffs? I know hes using a chorusing effect, but I can't tell what type of distortion (if any?) that he is using....

  • Comment removed

  • What other superlatives can you possibly add about this bands talent...

  • This is the first Rush track I ever heard and while it took me a little to get into it, it's stayed with me ever since, 20+ years later. It really, really works live as well. I especially love Alex's guitar tone with those mad chords he plays during the verses. Great stuff. I should bust out that 3 DVD set with this show on it again...

  • Rush songs sound so much more full live. I love it.

  • I recently did some research on the Steinberger bass (which Geddy uses in this video) and Geddy mentioned that he liked the portability but it "sounded awful". Sorry to disagree Geddy, but I think the bass sounds great on this live DVD!

  • @criterion55 did it have rotosound strings on it?

  • @scrambles12 Probably, I think he's used those for years.

  • @criterion55 I agree, the bass tone on this track is fantastic.

  • How do these guys do this? What AMAZING mother fuckers. The greatest band of all time!!

  • Hey Snootles, how bout when he plays a rather intricate bass line (beginning of the vocal part of "Xanadu", plays a melody line with his foot on the Moog bass pedals, and sings the verse simultaneously without missing a beat; saw him do that during the "Hemispheres" tour.

  • Saw Rush 3 times on that P\G tour including their headlining gig at the Texxas Jam w/ Ozzy at the Astrodome. They were on top of their game in '84; definitely a high point in their career.

The one annoying thing about this video is the editing where the camera goes off Alex during the solo.

  • God I fucking love Rush. I can't even begin to describe the feeling I get listening to their music. Its like when I'm listen all the troubles in my life just go away and I just go into my own world..........fucking AMAZING

  • @TheNewWorldMan69 yeah i feel just the same when i hear them and like people say they´re some of the unique bands that make their live performances better than their own album versions

  • @TheNewWorldMan69 I have neve experienced the high when I've been to a Rush concert.... It's orgasmic for the American male.... Very few women can even begin to relate to these phenomenal musicians...... Fan since Spring, 1981...

  • esta interpretacion es increible..increible..increible.."

best band in the multiverse "

  • these guys are phenominal in everything they do with their music....untouchable!!!

  • @cavaleraxxxflynn YES ABSOLUTELY!!

  • What a wonderful performance of a wonderful song!!!!!!!!!

  • RUSH are GODLIKE here.

    Song:AMAZING, Performance:AMAZING

Makes the studio version sound so poor!

  • This is so much better than the studio track. Damn I was 19 in 84, where the hell did the time go, now im 45 and these guys are still rockin their ass off. With great respect to Rush and all their loyal fans.

  • I've been sick for a couple days now & was still feeling like crap. Then I go on youtube and find this performance. I feel great! This song is even better live. Breath taking.

  • i'm honored!!!

  • At least Giddy Lee does something else than sing like most singers do. Most just like, hang back for two minutes until it's their turn to sing. I don't know, Rush just makes me feel so happy.
