I'm with Mush01, in that experimentation with visual design seems to be in short supply among gurdy luthiers. You seem to have a knack for being able to build excellent playing instruments in a variety of designs efficiently, and that is something that has eluded a lot of builders. Plus you manage to indulge your creativity. Great stuff!
@neilbrook Okay, makes sense. It's a bit like those foldey-up guitars — I wouldn't buy one, but it's good that it exists (and I would probably have a good crack at building one, but I have my own Gurdy gimmick planned)
@WaterpigMaster It took about the same time as a wren to build . The neck is a separate piece glued under the keybox - peghed geared tuners add a bit so £1150 sounds right. I have no plans to make more than one more ( I've still got the other half of the gourd!) I just needed to see if it could be done.
Hurdy-Gourdy? Ha! I love it. Love the sound it makes. Clean, crisp beautiful sound. This would be a great travel HG for those that can't be away from their HG for long. As always, amazing playing from an AMAZING Artist. Thank you for sharing.
powerful drones! Very good job, thank you Neil

Very cool and inventive Neil! What is that song your are playing in the video?

@lasaintebarbe: It's La GrandBete, a Gilles Chabenat tune.

Nice — And what about the price? Less time consuming than bending a load of ribs surely, but what about carving the neck?

Very nice! I seem to recall seeing some pictures of a gourd-bodied tekero by Balasz Nagy, or some other Hungarian builder......

I like the way that you're here innovating when many others seem content to build the same old guitar or lute backs :)
