This is what makes Rafi a singer of the highest caliber only matched by TMS (in the south) with TMS getting a slight edge because of the fact he could sing Hindustani as well whereas in the case of Mohd. Rafi he has never ventured Carnatic music as far as I know or if somebody knows can share here

Beginning was somewhat inferior to film version, but other part were just superb! And listen the end, 5 levels of pitch - no words for praise! I wonder how some people judge singing when they say some other singers of Rafi's time as guru of singing. All singers of his time were excellent in few style of singing or lacked at least one or two style of singing, but Rafi was singer of any type of songs and with his majestic voice and voice control, he was/is beyond any singer.

I think : Kishore and Asha were great at western style pop (of the era) music. Kishore was also good at soulful or contemplative songs.

Mukesh was great at spritual or sad and slow songs.

Mana Dey was great at classical

Lata was good at all of the above except western pop.

BUT RAFI exelled at all of the above.

this session was recorded by great noshad ji in hifi stero and acording to him Rafi sahib rehearse this song for about 15 or 17 days for this and lost his voice for about 20 days after singing this song he also mention some one told him Rafi sahib cough blood but he say rafi sahib never told him of that so it may be rigt we may never know. i miss you Rafi sahib rest in peace.

I hear that they practiced this song for nine months before the rehearsal. I don't believe the following but some say that Rafi coughed up blood after this recording. I do however believe that if you sing this kind of song too often - you'll damage your vocals. Can't believe Rafi is only 27-28 here! Thanks so much!
